That feeling when you'll never be a famous pony writer who burns out and fades into obscurity. Why even live?

I loved this fic! Rei your work and writing just continue to improve hand over fist, I love it!

Damn, didn’t expect it to get that dark.
Really liked how it dove right into jet situation, and the addition of the a changeling that he’s been hiring to play Delta Vee was great

My sympathy goes out to Mirage...not many people can truly understand that feeling. People need love yes, but not everyone knows that...hunger. That utter incompleteness that nothing can fill except actually feeling it...something that feels just as physically needed as food...
I understand it all too well. It makes me wonder how much truth there is to the concept of 'empaths'. Hell, it almost scares me, being able to practically taste it. To tell the different kind of emotion behind the love. Admiration from a younger sibling, pride from a parent, sorrow mixed in from someone who feels they failed you, and is just grateful you still talk to them...
The description given in many changeling fics, the 'taste' of different emotions...it's eerily similar to what I experience. This story hit hard. Well done, you portrayed flawlessly what having such a deep connection to emotion is like.

I'm very pleased the fic provided something unique for you.
The angle you describe is one that I have a lot of interest in. The aspect of changelings that I find most interesting and would like to explore even more. If I do another fic with Mirage I believe it'll be from her PoV so I can explore that concept even more fully and intimately.

I worried people might think it a bit *too* dark. Especially since the first half is just light and romantic. Glad that wasn't the case.

That went from hawt to Oh Shit, pretty damn quickly. Loved it tho! Would love to see more of Mirage!!

i like it maybe some clop from her pov

Holy Crap. Having read all of Rocket Science and Any Landing (and a few others), this was especially heart wrenching. I’ve always thought Delta’s life sucks because she made it that way, despite what she tells herself, but Jet, it just feels like he can’t catch a break. He tries so hard and gets nothing he actually wants out of it. He’s a stallion who has everything and nothing. And to have somepony manipulate him like that, especially when she changed to Delta, holy shit, it tugs on the heartstrings. Poor guy. I felt for Mirage too. She was starving after all, but I don't think I would have shown her sympathy either after she changed to my lost ex love. Too far. Before? Sure. If she was desperate and sorry for tricking him. But showing him Delta like that? More than I would have been able to handle.
Excellently written. Bravo.

People often say they dislike Jet, so part of my goal was to write him in a way that made him a little relatable. Seems like I accomplished that much at least, so that's good.

As for Mirage, she has other reasons for why she did what she did, though since she wasn't the PoV character we don't see them. I'll probably touch on that later in a different fic.

Can't deny that I'm a little interested in writing that. I think the changeling perspective on sex would be pretty interesting.

I'm definitely considering making a fic with Mirage as the PoV character that focuses on her hunger and day to day life.

That was an incredible story you made.:pinkiesmile: Are you going to make more stories with Mirage in them?:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

I'm strongly considering it, yeah.

What kind of story it would be I'm not completely sure of yet. Likely something apart from Jet. More it's own thing.

"I wasn't sure if people would like Mirage or not..."

Nooooo don't worry about that, me likey....me likey VERY much. Would like to see her wind up in an actual relationship, after some more struggles.

Question though, is this before the Great Changeling Redemption, or did Mirage miss out on that somehow?

At the moment, I'm considering the SP-verse to be sort of an AU of the actual show, in which case I'm supplementing my own head canon for changelings in place of it.

Either she comes from one of a variety of hives, each with its own Queen, or she comes from Chryssi's hive and they never reformed.

Sat down ready for some hot ApoJet.
I was not prepared for this.

I'm glad you liked it.
I did wonder if some people might be irritated by the bait and switch.

8962935 Oh, not at all irritated. It was masterful.

I would love to see Apogee meet the real Mirage, possibly after this, and console her. I would think a child would understand more easily than an adult, still be upset but more understanding.

Honestly, I want to see Apogee and Mirage interact in some way

Like the story. Like Mirage but, dislike her reason for the deception. Changing to Jet for cover was one thing, but into Apogee was too far. The main problem with her way of thinking is that she was never fully honest with Jet about what all there time together really meant to her as a changeling. All he knew was it meant food.

So I a way, I'm sad to say, she set herself up for this fall a long time ago by not being honest with Jet before Apogee and him became a couple and when he came home to find "her" there instead of the real Apogee.

I'm sure there would have been a better outcome for her than what happened if she was more open with him. She has my feels, but not my trust.:ajsleepy:

Great job!:moustache:

Please do more with her. dude you had me crying at the end. The feels

This was pretty good. Sad but lovely done. Kudos!

Holy fucking shit...

That's literally all I can say about this. It's that beautiful.

I've considered doing something Mirage-focused after Ch4. I do like her.

I eagerly await for what you come up with her

So I finally got around to reading this after all this time, and it immediately goes into my favourites - a place absolutely deserved.
Had I not known about the twist, I might have been taken aback by it. Though I did manage to notice the very subtle foreshadowing, and I just have to say bravo to that.

The characters felt real, not two-dimensional in any way, shape or form. Mirage... what she did might be seen as abhorrent, but she did not hurt anyone... physically. And she was truly desperate. And in the end, both she and Jet were left with pain.
Though I like how this story ended with an uncertainty - will they meet again? Does Jet truly never want to see her again, or were those just impulsive words of pain caused by the current situation?

I know I would absolutely love to see more of Mirage. Whether by the form of further interactions with Jet (whether past or potential future), or with others, she already feels like a great character to explore.

Also, I loved how you looped back to "money doesn't fix everything". A thought from the start, used to hammer the point home at the end.

Bravo, Rei. Bravo.

I think Mirage is a fine addition to this dysfunctional household. I do hope they get together again.

Oh no, definitely not. This is right in line with the Jet-Delta dynamic if you look deeper into her side of the story.
