It's Apogee's birthday, and Jet Stream and Delta Vee have come together to celebrate, making sure to make their daughter's birthday a day to remember - for better or worse.

Similar to Anywhere But Here, Black Honey and Fast Car, this story is entirely based on Shinodage's ask blog telling the story of Delta Vee and her family. As always, all credit for the characters and the cover goes to Shino!

Special thanks to NumberEight and xRei for providing substantial help with this story! Also, once again, cheers to Pahnazd for being an excellent proofreader!

It's absolutely wonderful to see a story about these three that's not some horrid incest fic. I'll be checking this out and giving you another comment! :D

Oh, does that mean that the original story of these characters isn't all about foalcon and incest? That was the impression I got from all the fanfics I've seen of them, but if that isn't the case then that makes me wanna go check out the artist's blog.

I knew from the outset that my heart would be broken by this story, and you certainly did not disappoint in that regard. You genuinely had me tearing up once you swapped from Apogee's happy imagination, to her soul rending reality But I didn't expect that, the end, I would have this little smile on my face. It was nice that Jet and Delta could at least pretend to get along a little at the end. For a moment, you could imagine them as that kind of family. Excellent job, Peebs!

The original blog had 'adult themes' in the sense that it dealt with serious depictions of divorce and depression. It was SFW and had none of the 'foalcon/incest' that seem to define these OCs now.

There’s a lot to like in the Space Ponyos universe in terms of SFW content.

Shinodage’s aks blog, in which the comic regarded as official canon for the universe is published, does not contain anything explicitly related to either of the themes you mentioned. Its primary focus is “to develop the story of” Jet, Delta and Apogee’s family. As reported in this post, the “blog is safe for work BUT it may contain adult topics and content at times”.

Completely NSFW and/or controversial content is posted in dedicated channels, to not bother the ones that are not interested in it.

There are also many fanfictions that deal with the sentimental aspects of the universe, without touching mature topics. Some of them, by P-Berry, are linked in this story’s description; you can also find some others in the SFW folder of the Jet Stream, Apogee, and Delta Vee group.

Foalcon and incest appear occasionally in some other M-rated fics, but they’re entirely an optional only for those interested in it. It’s perfectly possible to read and enjoy the E and T-rated stories without reading the M-rated ones.

Hehehe, whew... this was a nice story to read, cute and adorable in a few places and just nice and enjoyable.

“Could youpleasetell your father that putting pineapple on a pizza is nothing short of a crime against nature?” she snarled, narrowing her eyes as her look shot over to her ex-coltfriend for a second. “That’s not a pizza, that’s degeneracy.”

I don't even eat pizza but I agree with Delta :rainbowlaugh: Hehehe.

“Hey kid…” she said, reaching a hoof into an inside pocket of her oil-stained vest and pulled out a small, slim silver jar, “Wanna see something cool?”

Everything past this, Delta is just the best. Given the entire story of these three, Delta was at least trying and you gotta give her props for that. Fire hazard it was, that was awesome, and a lot better than those... cringy dad jokes that Jet was telling, hue.

All in all, this was a nicely written and well done fic, and a nice SoL change of pace from the norm that these three are written in. Hypocritical of me to say, considering the one I'm writing myself :rainbowlaugh: Hahaha.

But damn good work, Peebs, damn good work.

Will a tad heavy on some little bits of exposition at first, this is a fairly accurate and realistic depiction of a divorced family - there's usually less fire though! Wonderful job!

Always love to see a fic about these three, espically one that isn't about incest. ...Ugh.

Aw, Peebs, that truly was a stab in the heart there, mate.

Maybe someday little Gee's dream will come close to reality. But, until then, or even then, I'll enjoy these little moments that Apogee gets those two to stop bickering long enough that they all are a bit more happy.

Keep writing the good stories!
Yeah, that was a terrible "keep fighting the good fight" cheer thingy. Sorry about that...

Lovely work peebs! You continue to do great stuff with establishing a rich narrative background!

Beautiful treatment of Jet and Delta too!

So many people seem to lean one way or the other, but you made both incredibly human in this fic!

To all those who are commenting that say they really don't like the NSFW stuff, I'm sorry! There's a lot to love with the family that isn't incest/foalcon... Don't let some pics get in your way!

Ah, this story. It is as heart-rending as it is uplifting.
The beginning seemed too good to be true, but I've decided to enjoy it while it lasted. And then Apogee woke up... and reality reared its ugly head.

I think you've depicted the emotions quite well over here! From Apogee's despair and sadness over wanting to have at least ONE day when her family acts a little bit more like a family, to Jet's and Delta's stubbornness and not realizing how their hatred towards each other affects their daughter...
To the silliness than ensued afterwards. Jet's jokes were terrible, but at the same perfect.
Delta used flamethrower! It was super effective!

As clops said before me, you keep doing amazing stuff. Great job, peebs!
(we don't have space ponyo emojis here so the heart will have to do)

“Why can’t I trust atoms?”

It took the stallion a few moments to understand what she meant, and a few more seconds to realize that she was being serious and not just trying to show him up in front of is ex.

“Well…” Jet began, feeling a thin smile form on his face as he prepared the punchline.

“They make up everything!”

that joke doesn't work on portuguese :rainbowwild:

I'll just say what everyone else said at this point: Your story was amazing and you managed to capture Apogee's frustration nicely. I dunno if this is a good or a bad thing but before the ending part, all i wanted was to punch Delta and Jet in the face for being such morons. They look very human-ish. I look foward for your next story

Oh yes, it's incest pictures that I've been seeing in the feature box. Yup, yup.

8702671
Typo, apologies :)

TBD I haven't penned exclusively incest space ponyo fics. It's actually about 50/50 now. Though I guess it's all in one universe, so you could argue it's 💯

New story by P-Berry, new ride on the feels train :yay:

Like in Anywhere but here, I love that all three of the main characters have got their own fair share of words. The balance that I liked so much keeps going strong, I can’t but be positively impressed.

I find it interesting that, in Apogee’s eyes, what stands out about her parents are not the differences, but the similarities between the two. By not really caring about the events that came before her, she only sees two immature adults bickering at one another for no apparent reason.

She’s hurt in equal measure by “lack of time” and “lack of interest” and can’t really conceive the reason behind the distance between any of the family members. She’s also impartial in her genuine reaction to their attempts in cheering her up; it’s refreshing and eye-opening to see some family life from this new perspective.

I’m really sorry that this story didn’t make it into the feature box, it’s a great piece which well deserved it in my eyes. Hopefully future ones will see better luck. Nothing can take it away from my personal favourites, on a shelf where it has every right to belong.

As pointed out by Eight, the blog itself doesn't contain any foalcon or incest. While Clopficsinthecomments' stories and the universe he created by it have been declared canon by Shino (the original creator) there haven't been any implications (and probably never will be) of it in the main blog.
So, for all intents and purposes, you can do what I do and consider it an AU to the blog's universe and still enjoy the latter to the fullest if incest and/or foalcon isn't your thing.
Personally I'm not into foalcon or father/daughter-incest, but I can appreciate what Clops has created. In the end, it was him and The Blessed One who made me want to write Black Honey and contribute to the Space Ponyos-universe with their works, so you can thank them if you like my stories.
But regardless, while I appreciate it, I personally don't consider ApoJet canon to the stuff I write, and thus won't bring it up in potential future stories. I don't condemn lewds with Apogee in any way, but it's something I'd rather leave to Clops (or xRei or Dustchu).

8698510
Glad you liked it Alex! Regardless of where Shino plans to go with the family, it certainly is nice picturing this what if-scenario, if only through a dream.

8698657
Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words! I tried to keep it somewhat balanced between Jet and Delta, and show how both of them don't necessarily exceed at parenting, or simply don't really know much about it, but, similar to what has been elaborated in Black Honey, can still try when the need truly arises.

Glad you guys liked it! ^_^

Yup, I sure do love stabbing people in the heart with the stuff I write. Nothing like a bit of heartache in the morning, right?
But yes, I shall continue to fight the good fight and write somewhatdecentIguess stories!

8699350
Once again, praise coming from you means a lot, Clops. So glad to hear you enjoyed it!

8699408
I was a little worried some of the emotions (and especially Apogee's outbreak) would seem a little contrived while I was writing this thing. Glad that didn't turn out to be the case, as that story truly was a pain in the back to write.
Buut anyway, thanks again for proofing this thing. I'm glad you liked it!

8702231
Yeah, I guess by now it's not a secret anymore that their fighting isn't really good for their daughter. One can only hope that it won't escalate further in the future for the sake of poor 'gee.

8704804
Well, you were there, so I suppose I don't need to tell you the struggle I went through with this story and its ending :twilightsheepish:
Anywho, I'm glad it spoke to you on such levels. It's always interesting to explore the dynamics in this crooked family, and frankly, despite the struggles, it was great fun too!
As for this thing not getting featured...
Eh, I don't really mind. It didn't get as many views as other stories, but from what I can tell, those who read it thoroughly enjoyed it, and that's what matters most to me. I'd rather have ten people say they genuinely liked it, than a thousand people saying 'Eh, it was alright, I guess.'
So, all things considered, I'm quite happy with the feedback it's received so far ^_^

Huh, interesting info.

Glad you guys liked it! ^_^

You're welcome, it was a very nice, although heartbreaking piece.

somewhatdecentIguess

Really? I love these! They are nowhere near somewhat decent. They're excellent!
And yes, getting hit right in the feels is great! It's means, to me, that the story is well written and you've portrayed the characters in question superbly!

8706600
No problem dude, I liked the story, it was great and I think you did very well! :yay:

Another well done story. You deftly convey the emotions they're all feeling. Thanks for creating and sharing.

Making the most of what there is and even imagining the missing pieces uplifts the heart, incomplete as it is the illusion of family. I feel kind of bad for Apogee cuz that moment while great is something she can only hope for until it become true.

Well, I've spent the last week delving into the Junkyard AU, and it's captivated me like no other fan work has in years. I've heard nothing but good things about your fics, and this was the first one I read.

I was really thrown off by the opening paragraphs before my brain kicked me in the skull and said "It's a dream, dumbass."

And sure enough, the rest of the actual party was just such a train wreck, in the best possible way.

In either fan works or Shino's official stuff, I'm just so afraid that the point is going to come where Apogee's imagination isn't enough to keep saving her from the harsh reality.

I can't realistically seeing these two ever seeing eye to eye for their daughter's sake for more than a few moments at a time.

Great story, and I look forward to reading more of your work!

Heartwarming. At least the two idiots attempted to cheer up Apogee.

Can I just say that I really just want to give Apogee a great big hug right now? I assure you completely in the platonic sense, And I would love to take her out to watch a meteor shower having an interest in space and stuff myself even if I've long since given up on my dreams of working with NASA (I suck at math beyond basic algebra). I also love fire, although I am not nearly as gutsy as Delta, my flames are the semi-carefully controlled flames that I make when doing dishes like flaming cheese or bananas foster.
