Hell Yeah, an update, time to see what more this party has in store for the young Pathfinder
veddy veddy nice! the wait was worth it!
W00t!
Whoot update.
Oh dear, Cadence is at it again
Great chapter, but what happened to part two?
Nice chapter, but either I am going crazy or You messed up part numbers...
8637398
Fix that, miscounted when I did those parts last. I honestly thought I had already done another part to this.
Sometimes the writer, Artist or design engineer need to step back and re-ajust and correct any mistakes before going on.
Wow. I feel really bad... for professor Peach.
Because he was, in general, right.
As the audience, we all know that Twilight Sparkle is the best thing since sliced bread. But Peach is a scientist and an academic. He, quite reasonably, asks what Twilight's credentials are. And is told they amount to "she's politically well connected." She has NO credentials. She has no degree. She has not published in a peer reviewed journal. But she Celestia's personal student, and really very smart! Honest!
This is the most important scientific discovery in centuries, and he's expected to just accept the data from someone who might well be Blueblood's dumber but better connected cousin?
Now, mind you, he was very rude. He could have simply accepted his monarch's word, then rerun all the tests to double check. Science is supposed to be repeatable after all. He could have humored Twilight, and then determined if he data and observations were likely to be reliable.
In short, he was rude and politically unwise. But he wasn't wrong. And so he's being punished for refusing to kowtow to the politically well connected, and for speaking 'truth to power.'
Poor professor Peach.
8637544
Even if we was technically correct that doesn't give him the right to be a dick. Especially since Twilight is qualified she just lacks a piece of paper.
8637544
8637657
Well the plan was to make this character an asshole but with a valid reasoning behind it. Too many times there are just too simple characters that are antagonist with no real valid reasons and I wanted to see if I could pull one off.
thank you for this outstanding chapter . it was like getting a perfect christmas gift.
8637657
Yes, he was undoubtedly being a dick. Or, at the very least, socially clueless. (Not an unusual trait in the sort of person who dedicates their entire life to a single field of endeavour... ) But Celestial and Twilight are hardly blameless. This is pretty much blatant nepotism (or is it just favoritism, since Twilight isn't a relative?) and Peach is pretty much calling them on it... and getting stepped on for doing so. (Or at least for doing so undiplomatically... i.e., being a duck.)
As for Twilight being qualified but "lacking a piece of paper," the point of that piece of paper is to certify that this person is qualified. The guy who pumps your gas at the gas station could be an excellent rocket scientist in his spare time. But he hasn't taken the classes, passed the tests, written the papers, and acquired the degrees necessary to certify the fact that he is an excellent rocket scientist to the rest of the world. And as such, NASA is not going to hire him to design the next Apollo. Even if his brother is a Senator and swears up land down that he'd be great at it. (Okay, maybe that last part is just wishful thinking on my part... but a man can dream, can't he?)
8637689
I completely agree. Flat one dimensional antagonists are boring. I just happen to take my science seriously, and it irks me to see a character be taken to task when he is, generally speaking, right.
8637834
It doesn't matter she's already done alot of the work. He had no right to simply dismiss every thing she's done without looking at it just because she lacks the "qualifications". Especially when the highest authority in the land agreed to it.
8637850
The thing is as the matter goes Celestia is far from the highest power in the land in this exact matter unless she can pull out an educational certification from her arse which is somewhat up-to-date. This is a matter of research, and in that field credentials, research, journals and publications are what matters.
From the Professors Point of view:
Celestia has given research of one of the most fundamental event in Equine history to her pet student. Neither of them has taken any time to make sure she has any academic certifications or apparently published any works relating to the matter. She is absolutely unknown other than being somehow 'special'. This is not only a slap against all of academia, personal insult to the professor who assumedly is foremost figure of the correct field but also political figure monopolizing a discovery of the millennia to her pet student.
Oh that silly piece of paper you dedicated large portion of your life on archiving and all that work you put into your research to be recognized? Sorry, Twilight is super smart and is being made a Alicorn soon, so this is her discovery, why are you upset about this peon pony?
Edit:
Then again this is Equine culture maybe they have their own ways. If leader of any country on earth would hand first contact research to his or hers unknown 'personal student' then there would be a definate problem.
8638164
Well the idea is that Celestia is over a 1000 years old and with age comes wisdom. She most likely knows alot about medicine and various other things, she's not stupid.
If this was a job interview Peach would be well within his rights to deny Twilight. The problem is she already has the job and to declare everything she has done is invalid simply because she lacks a piece of paper shows an incredible amount of arrogance on his part. He's not wrong in his views but he foolishly believes he has absolute authority in this matter even over the princess who is 1000 years his senior.
I don't think this was a long break. You had to recharge and that is good. Can't have you burn out and lose interest in writing this fic, now can we?
Great to see this updated again! Can't wait for the next chapter.
8638189
It's not even that. Bottom line is. You can't claim to be an expert if you've never handled the situation before, regardless of doctorates. They can *assist* with the situation, and glean insight on what's been done by the original "expert" but that is it. Whether or not the dude is right or wrong, things don't have to be started all over again if he didn't think with arrogance.
Going over the notes, and asking proper questions, and looking at it from a different perspective could glean more insight than "starting over from the beginning" like a dick. Like, "When you mentioned his eating habits, what did you find about his teeth? how much does he eat? Does he brush his teeth? Does he have an aversion to mint? Why?" etc. instead of
"He eats."
Peach might be an expert on non equine races in a perfusve magical enviroment, but how much an expert is he on totally non magical entities, relative to someone who not only is Magic personified, but also has experience, if this is after the mirror if it exists, of a similar non magical styled race and enviroment?
Leonard Of Quirm put it more simply in The Last Hero.
I do not want experts. I do not want those who have learnt the limits of what is possible.
Generally, Experts deny Excession.
Aw yes! New chapter! Man I was really hoping for an update! Oh man, the what that Peach got backhanded was priceless. I hope the next chapter comes soon! Keep it up.
Totally awesome chapter!
That guy peach is a duece! Way to go David! Xd
Oh I love how this ended. So sweet!
[Checks for Romance tag...Well I still Loved it!]
Glad to see an update, always excited for more when it comes to this story! I hope you enjoyed the 25th of December and have a fantastic new year!
8637544
Don't hate me but I agree that he was right to shoot down Twilight. (In short that is...)
He may of seen harm in someone with no papers to help in such a relative huge thing, but he could of waited for Twilight to be out of ear shot before going on. This is a classic put hero on pedestal and then realise that means they will look down on you.
Given that he is likely passionate about the biggest discovery in his history and someone with no paper to prove otherwise, could ruin it, has every right to say no to this possibly smart politician regarding the biggest science project ever in his eyes. He doesn't know she's smart enough to not squander this moment. Though why not entertain that she maybe smart? Biggest discover ever in his perspective, that's why.
This accident reminds me just how manipulative and powerful information can be. It's all perspective and what one knows.
Given this, I would still high five David though.
8637689
Expertly done then Agent-G. Excellent work!
Please continue
8641276
That was from months ago. You just posted a chapter so my question was answered when you posted the most recent chapter.
8641323
sorry for some reason when I was looking on the chapter it was there for some reason.
8641449
No worries.
Peach's mistake was not, as many said, questioning Twilight's credentials. Was dismissing completely the work of someone competent enough to earn the right to be taught by the princess, and keeping the position. Was doing so just in front of said monarch. And worse, dissing the one responsible for establishing good relations with the alien itself, in front of said alien. He was simply stupid.
Not only that, he forgot he's dealing with an intelligent alien. Said alien is perfectly within hours rights to demand anyone he damn wants is the one to work with him. He's not a servant of the crown, he can tell Peach to stuff it on principle alone. Or just if he thinks his coat is ugly. Being an ass to his friend in front of him is a perfectly good reason to dismiss working with someone. Allowing natives to study him is not his job, it's something he's doing because he's nice. And that does not include enabling assholes.
This was a great update and it’s so damn cute. Also, Twilight learned that even “heroes” can be villains. As for Peach, he got put in his place. Even though he has his merits in his own right, so does Twilight. Not all of the great minds become experts in conventional ways. In science, you need flexibility and many laws and theories are broken and rewritten every day. It is true that science is the persuit of answers but to get the answers you need to first know the question. Nothing in science is concrete. Science is more a Newtonian fluid, it can hold things on its surface but if your stuck on your way of thinking and not willing to progress with another, you’ll sink and won’t go anywhere. Now I’m rambling and not making much sense probably but that’s how I think.

Thanks!^_^
" (more of a Yang fan myself) "
It's more about who I would want to be. That's why in my self-insert RWBY fics(currently undergoing rewrites) I wind up in Weiss's body. With her still there. Eventually the two of us agreeing to work together fore the rest of our lives. Which can be a darn long time as we are Immortal.
" and you might just see a bit more of Sultry next chapter I think. "
I certainly hope so. She is hot!^_^ I'd definitely bed her given the choice anytime.^_^^_^ Cute and sexy.^_^ Yeah!^_^
Well this story has been a treat to read this far. I'm glad I came across it the other day. There are very few stories that do a first contact as well as this has.
I do wonder how many people back on Earth are screaming about how he is handling things. I'm guessing he's sent at least one more probe in the last few weeks.
I'm also surprised that Chrysalis hasn't tried something yet. Surely news has reached her by now.
8641449
Minor thing, but you should not have quotes at the end of a sentence if the character immediately starts talking again in the next line. Let's the reader know it's the same person speaking.
This is such a great chapter. It was worth the wait. I want to say, the writing in all chapters is so good it feels it's in a movie. One thing that I think would be funny in the future would be David takes Shining and The mane 6, maybe even Celestia and Luna, to space. We their up there, he could be the song Starman by David Bowie. It would be a fun joke to put in.
8638189
She might be able to do this, as any monarch could walk to any university and fire its professors if they really pushed their power. Imagine that scene right there in this context. Lets say Queen of England would be talking with Hawking and make it known that infact England had discovered true anti-gravity technology in some cave in england, and that she has placed her personal student she sees as her child overseeing its research.
Now it could be taken in any manner of ways but all of them should amount to "Fuck that noise, this needs to be done right." And yes she indeed could stand in the way of the obvious backlash from the world community for having dealt with such a happening in such reckless manner, and yes she could stand her ground and purge all who oppose her and her student from the royal societies leaving it full of sniveling cowards while all who actually care about progress learn that she must be pandered to and that there is no such things as academic freedom in her country.
8638687
This might not be the best way to go about it. There is unknown factor in the equation, Twilight Sparkle who apparently is not known and has not published anything. She seems not to have any qualifications thus her methods might be anything Immortal Alicorn has chosen to teach her. For all the Professor knows Celestia might still have burdens of history and all kinds of silly misconstruet notions about reality.
The correct thing in this case would be to eliminate the unknown and set up parallel but independent research to the matter conducted by methodical and reliable person, and then have both of the results presented to person who draws final conclusions about the matter. Could be Twilight is doing a good work but her methods are at the least suspect and liced with political bias which she draws from Celestia. This does not mean she is kicked off the case, she afterall is connected to the Human, but she might have unwittingly done all kinds of mistakes which can skew results in all kinds of odd directions. Could anyone responsible allow her conclusions to affect primary work into something that is on this level? When it literally can be avoided with paraller study like this and maybe a bit of hurt feelings of some pet student of the Princess?
As for the actual focus of the study, if he chooses to refuse to comply nothing can be done about it, but he should be able to be unbiased enough to understand it might be needed. And he could be in mistaken understanding that Twilight is something she is not. Well after he has time to cool down and step down from her 'Defending Muh Twilight' mode. I also worry how her blooming relationship with the said human will reflect on validity of her research too. To me personally, it would be a
bigmassiveColossal red flag if any study would have the researcher actually dating the subject. Not to even mention how that would pass any ethical boards. Then again that might make whole different kind of story.
Eh is this story still alive. Been forever since last chapter.
Nice fic. It could use a bit of editing though. There's quite a few spelling errors scattered around, and there's a few story points that are repeated despite having been covered in earlier chapters.

Getting close to finishing, had to get a new laptop recently because they couldn't fix the power issues I was having with it.
I Can't Wait For The Next Chapter.
