David pulled a HAL on Dash?
What will the rumors be like by th end of the day, with The Flower Girls and Luna complaining about them having nightmares about Shiny Metallic Changelings wanting to have them to dinner?
Now waiting for Dash and Pinkie to work together on pranking, with David using multiple 360 view drones, and Pinkie still managing to pop up from out of view behind them.
Bucking great!
7369118 You know it wasn't until I was writing that I realized the 'Hal and Dave' thing to the joke lol. Just kind of worked out in my favor. Yeah there is going to be a few strange dreams about that I bet later on for Luna to deal with.
7369203 When it flies in the face of all known science I think you could cut the guy some slack.
Awesome chapter, can't wait to see how this will progress in the next chapter.

I would love to see Pinkie defy Physics in front of David, sounds like a good come back for pranks.
“No, don’t go into the light damn it!”
I'm glad to see someone giving Twilight a sense of humor!
Just finished bingeing this. Haven't seen the comments on the previous chapters but... shouldn't the "wft everything on this planet is from earth" stuff be at the forefront of his mind, at least when speaking with luna? That is just too much of a "coincidence" for it to be one. Sure, the magic and pastel colored ponies with their shenanigans do make for quite the distractions, but still...
Anyway, following this now. New chapter when?
Thanks for working g so hard on this story it really does you credit I'm sure u could still find some one to atleast partially review and proof read your scripts tho.
7371231 I'm not familiar with blue grass hence why there is a lack of it.
A pretty interesting story, if a bit hard to read due to some pretty glaring grammar and spelling errors here and there. You might want to look into getting someone to proofread for you, and maybe do a bit more of it yourself. Also some parts seem to be rather... heavily inspired by another story about such a first contact, but it's still original enough that it's not terrible.
Not bad, and this killed a night off for me.
And everyone knows that human-pony hybridized science-magic would be the überforce to rule the universe. Mua ha ha haaaa.
It would probably be a good idea for David to send a missive home. Things seem to be looking up and it might be best to give Terra a head's-up to get a diplomatic mission ready. Also prepare the hospital system for the flood of heart attacks from scientists finding out that magic is real.

Bluegrass is happy music.
Thus far, this guy seems like an imbecile. And I've only read through chapter 2! How the hell did this guy qualify when he can't even put together a rudimentary hypothesis? Alright, so what if the sun goes around the planet? He detected a spike of energy of an unknown type. Any moron could tell you that there's a statistically relevant probability of correlation between coincidental anomalies. Well, the gist of it anyway.
Using the 3 main data points I could make four crude hypotheses:
1) The sun is unusually small and orbiting the planet.
2) There was a large spike of an unknown energy type.
3) The planet's civilization appears to be electric era.
a) The sun is an artificial reactor of some form, and actually propelling itself.
b) The civilization is actually highly advanced, but is Luddite, preferring the use of cruder technology.
c) The civilization used to be highly advanced, but was destroyed, and the after-the-fall civilization has access to some highly advanced lost technology.
d) A third party of aliens set this planetary system up artificially for unknown reasons.
7371936 That sounds like fun. How about... The "sun" is actually another moon, about the same mass as the known moon, and can therefore orbit the planet with no problems. The only remaining question is how the "sun's" and moon's orbits are kept in sync 180 degrees apart. You'd still need some outside correcting influence, but it wouldn't be quite as unbelievable as the canon system.
That ...would make for some pretty weird tides, wouldn't it?
Some pretty interesting chapters (up through 8 now). I noticed he didn't think horses had a joint there, but I suppose he must have checked his computer and found out they actually did, it just isn't flexible beyond absorbing shock. Always frustrating, as it's pretty much impossible to tell whether it's the character or the artist that doesn't know something.
Isn't his suit airtight? How can he smell them? Seems a bit odd, since this is, I think, limited-third-person point-of-view?
7375676 Of course, Twilight has the Rainbow Power and Cadence has the Crystal Heart...
Also, the princesses CLAIMED that in the journal...it's not like they had a sample size larger than two to work with. In fact, as far as we know, their sample size providing evidence that alicorns aren't all immortal is...zero. That's just supposition!
Also, King/Queen rules a King/Queen-dom, Prince(-ss) rules a Principality. Equestria was assumably formed as a federation of three principalities (each of the tribes). Them taking on the title of a principality would symbolize that it is, indeed, an oligarchy, rather than a monarchy. Whether Twilight and Cadence are legally equals (rather than simply of status) of Celestia/Luna (or even Luna of Celestia after her banishment) is debatable. ('first among equals')
7338390 What you mean, is that the size of programs we currently have are run near-instantly. As there's no such thing as truly 'instantly', and I can imagine programs would balloon when quantum computers become common, in the same way they did when the microprocessor was invented. I can only wonder how ludicrous the amount of data it would take to slow one down, though...
I've read through chapter 12 now, and the story just gets better.
Silly pony, Caduceus, the Rod of Hermes, is a universal symbol of commerce, not medicine! (but is used by the medical profession...) And the Rod of Asclepius has only one snake (or guinea worm) around the rod, and is the actual universal symbol of medicine.
Huh, I would've thought they were ceremonial, like the Pope's Swiss Guard.
7375599 Edit to part of my previous post:
Actually, thinking about it, he was drinking water. While they might have suits with a drinking interface, I suppose he might not have worn an airtight suit. Seems a bit odd going onto a new planet without one, though. Who knows what kind of pathogens one could pick up, or, alternatively, spread.
Alas, I ran out of chapters to read. I wonder if he'll manage to get back to Canterlot to get his story released before or after the press release? Either way, already having the information on the way would mean they could get a special edition printed before anyone else has their hooves out the door. I think this one will be going on the favorites/followed lists.
7372863 Heh, firemoon, huh? I suppose that would be one way of making the reactor construction easier, maybe like Apokalips. Also, I don't think that would cause weird tides. Aren't the tides lowest at ninety degrees from the moon anyway? However it WOULD result in really, really strong tides all the time, and they'd always be the same strength, unlike ours that wax and wane depending on the relative direction of the sun (it affects tides, but much more weakly than the moon, so it can make them stronger or weaker than usual)
7375599 No that suit isn't air tight you're confusing it with the large bulky suit in the first chapter that was air tight. How can what is basically a skin tight suit be air tight? Think of the suit from Metal Gear 4 the camo suit that's what it mostly looks like.
7427158 Sorry I only did a quick wiki search about it I'm not sure if that was mentioned in the page or not I didn't see that so that's why it's like that.
7387935 Dude give me a break, I explained in an author's note I think that I have trouble with certain things like this. This is just for fun and it's a reason why I never bothered to think of trying to be a professional as I know I have weak points. Just cause someone says "hey fix run on sentences" without saying where they are or how they are run on (it's hard to for me to tell sometimes) you can't expect someone to just suddenly fix issues that have been there for years. That's just unrealistic expectations isn't it? I try my best but if my best isn't enough i can get if you want to drop it if it's not up to your standards. No matter how hard I try I know it's never good enough.
7427378 SCUBA! (er, wet suit.) But yeah, I assumed him being on an alien planet he would be in an airtight suit, at least at first.
Edit: I was thinking of some kind of lightly armored, full-body, high-tech version of a wet suit. Plus a helmet. Just basically a barrier against any pathogens (in or out) until he gets back to the airlock for decontamination. No one wants to die from some alien planet's version of the common cold. And I did figure it out eventually...it just took me until after chapter 12.
7427840 true but how many sci-fi TV shows, films, books etc that actually follow that rule outside of a world where you can't breath normally?
7427975 That's true, but they also are usually either well experienced with common interactions with aliens (Star Trek, Star Wars, etc), or otherwise have a support network in case something like that DOES happen (the former, plus stuff like Stargate). On the other hand, this guy is on a long-term, solo mission, and dying of the Rygelian Fever means his whole mission gets scrubbed, if not outright failed and lost. More of a 'first alien contact' scenario rather than 'alien cosmopolis' one.
I can buy it, as it's feasible that his ship COULD possibly have detected any virulent strains, and deal with any lesser infectious strains, but I was automatically expecting him to go in hermetically, and missed a few cues that would have let me know otherwise.
7441865 This was supposed to be comedy plus I've worked over 24 hours and trust me you can get pretty tired and it's not like he was trained to keep going without sleep all the time or work all the time without sleep. That kind of thing they do is just to see what happens when someone is forced to just keep going not to train them to work that long.
7443066 I agree it was funny as hell, but that was the feeling I got upon reading it.
still got a few more chapters to go but this story has definitely earned its place on my favs when it finishes and you turn it over to complete. definitely gunna finish reading this once i finish up with some lunch.
