Awwww. I liked this and it was well-written. I had to read this, because it bothered me too. I thought FOR SURE that Coco would fix it back up for her" because AJ saved the day and Coco's cutie mark just happened to be a hat.
But nnnnnnope. She just threw it away, and Rarity got her a new one.

Her hat getting wrecked was an accident, but I feel like AJ would have been more sad on it, yeah. And she actually got it at a fair as a filly, but still, I'm surprised the show didn't expand more on that.
I liked this anyway though.
6470381 Yeah, I was about to mention that. The actual hat she got as a filly is probably long gone. Considering the normal wear and tear, not to mention growing up, it would long since have given up the ghost. What she likes is the style of hat, and that's what she's referring to when she mentions how she started wearing one.
6470381 Keep in mind it's the hat telling the story, so from it's point of view it's a sad turn of events.
6471661 True the genre is a bit sappier than I"m used to writing and I'm sure AJ has scores of them back home (I.e. not the first hat she threw away), but after seeing it mangled when she used the weed whacker and then crushed underneath the statue, then just discarded seemed kind of harsh. It's like throwing away your favorite jacket after so much wear and tear. Sides, what are the chances that sales pony would have a cowboy hat similar to the one AJ wears. That was a ghost in the machine moment for me.
I was expecting this to be from AJ's perspective, but then I was like "wait. The hat is the narrator? The hat?" I like it.
