Uh-huh... so I'm guessing only the changelings will be smartened up while the ponies are idiot-balled to below Forrest Gump IQ level.
Because any plausible society would be creating countermeasures against a shape-shifting race which invaded it.
Seen this sort of thing WAYYYY too often in Chrysalis revenge fics.

In fact, I was getting into what the ponies had been doing after the invasion in the next chapter.
6158579 Problem is, Chrysalis' plan in the episode was idiotic and she was an AWFUL actor in the role of Cadance... it succeeded only because the ponies are dumbed down enough to let Chrysalis' plan succeed, until she had to be dumbed down even more to let them win... and now I'm expected to believe she can come up with something better?
All of these fics have the same initial problem: glossing over the implausibility of the episode's story to then lead to a morose tragedy which is as stark a contrast as trying to make "Terminator" the sequel to "Back to the Future".
Not to mention, changelings need ponies alive to feed on love. Killing their food source is likely a last resort for emotivores of any kind.
6165319 Yep, I agree with the actually episode with Chrysalis in it was bad. Enjoyable, but bad. I am kinda just not mentioning the stupid plan so much, as trying to make the characters stay in-character to a extent.
Have you ever done something stupid, and looked back on how stupid it was. Of course you have, everyone has. What I am trying to say is that anyone can have a stupid moment, then come back with something better.
As for the food, she says in the story that she wanted to use Equestria as a salved food source. She just wants to kill, a select few ponies, and the soldiers that Equestria will use to defend themselves, though she will try to capture as many of them as possible as well.

After middle school... only one time. And even that wasn't all that impactful...
This was not some random event she screwed up on the spur of the moment, this was a pre-planned invasion and attempt to enslave an entire country.
Such a plan requires long-term planning and preparation. That "Canterlot Wedding's" ploy was the BEST she came up with does not speak favorably of her intellectual capabilities.
With her powers, I could have taken over Equestria so stealthily nopony would ever have even known it happened. Changelings have every advantage possible for infiltration... and Chrysalis HORRIBLY squandered them.

I guess this story, and things of Chrysalis in this matter probably wouldn't work for you, but everyone has their own tastes and opinions and I respect them all.
I will try to make this story above the average of these type of stories, because I like what I do, and I want what I do to be good. I also what those who see what I do, not want to gouge their eyes out either.

Found this little video while browsing through youtube, probably just taking the thing to seriously, but it's a pretty good theory.
6165994 I don't take them seriously in the show, but in stories that are meant to be 'serious' in tone, I expect some deeper forethought and application of their abilities.
The best fanfics starting post-wedding re-work "Canterlot Weddings" story such that the ponies are victorious because Luna was working behind the scenes or the Deus Ex Machina is toned down and the changelings are very weak due to their being starved (which would explain why the Mane 6 were able to kick the crap out of dozens of them), and why they couldn't risk long-term infiltration, their situation was too dire and they only had so much energy left. If they were discovered, they could be easily blocked out of all pony settlements or destroyed entirely.)
In those cases, the Love Blast only hits Chrysalis, whom one could say was suffering side effects of taking in too much love after being starved of it for many years... rather like a starving person suddenly stuffing themselves in a feast, they'll get horribly sick shortly afterward.
In those cases, if Chrysalis does try to invade again, she must take great precautions AND deal with ponies who themselves are far more intelligent and militarily capable than the essentially innocent, child-like creatures in the show.
To put it simply, adapting the simply stories of most of the show to a much grittier world requires tremendous re-working of almost every aspect of the source material, because the creatures living in that alternate world are themselves products of its characteristics, and this will result in a very different Equestria.
