Amiens, Occupied France, December 1940. A famous French musician takes a train in a bid to escape to the land of Equestria. Funnily enough, the mare she ends up with has similar plans.

Following German occupation, Occupied France has become a hot zone. Nopony is safe from the ever watching eyes of the Gestapo. The time has come for Vinyle Rayure, famous French musician, to take a train journey south to Viccy France, where she can catch a boat out to Equestria and be free of German rule. The mare she ends up sharing a compartment with has the same goal in mind, but they both have a long journey across the entire of France to get to Nice.

Not to mention the fact that the train is crawling with Wehrmacht soldiers, SS officials and Gestapo spies. German checkpoints scatter the countryside and crossing the border into Viccy France will be no easy task! But that's that risk you take for freedom.

Obviously, there will be a lot of Nazi symbolism here, so take heed now and proceed with caution. Please feel free to provide any constructive criticism (I do read it!). If you don't like it, let me know why, in a polite way. Many thanks.

sounds good I wish I had the ability to read again.....

I'll read this later for sure!

THAT OCTAVIA PICTURE IS SO DAMN CUTE.

>Ponifying WWII…

Nooooo fucking thank you!

There are somethings that just need to remain Human.

Although… atleast you didn't try to rename shit with shitty pony puns.

Teq

5038923 Thankyou. Fixed.

5038948 I hate pony puns. They annoy me greatly (as do most puns).

Plus, I know that I'm not the first to ponify this specific time period, but I haven't seen this type of story before. For me this is just a way to put the time period I've studied so much about into a fictional setting. (I love World War 2, it's definitely my favourite).

5039006

Well while I can't deny the History if WWII is interesting, I still don't like the premise of ponifying WWII.

But I've still got to give you props for not being disrespectful enough to try pony-pun places and factions.

Edit: And for taking my opinion very well.

Teq

5039014 No worries! Personally I feel we should leave historical time and place the way it should be: alone. Like that one miserable guy at the party that everyone pretends to like so that the person that invited them doesn't get offended and leave.

And I think it's worth getting out there now: I am generally going to be steering away from racism. I know it played a large part in the war, but that's a dangerous path and I don't like the look of the shadow behind the next tree...

Teq

5038872 Glad you think so! It was originally supposed to be both Vinyl and Octavia, but I couldn't find a decent enough picture of them together.

Teq

5038408 You wish you had the ability to read a story a second or possibly multiple times over, or you wish you had the ability to read once more having previously lost it?

I'm joking of course! Thanks very much, it's good to see some support.

I have to ask: if all the countries are keeping their Earthly names, then where/what is Equestria?

5039064 no prob that's what I try to do is support people

But really, in all seriousness, my personal opinion is that Equestria is essentially just America with a different name. I was debating whether or not to name this story 'A Train to the US', but ultimately decided to stick to the familiar territory. Don't know if I'm allowed to do that, but I have anyway.

Teq

5039458 Well keep at it!

Iteresting story and I look forward to see where it goes. Occupied France was an interesting place from people I talked to when I was younger and from what I have read.

Teq

5173267 Most indeed! I've actually just come back from France myself. Doing some research on the trenches and various other conflicts. Visited a few graveyards too. Very poignant.

Oh did you check out the Catacombs beneath Paris? Very entertaining, especially when you get into the area's where the resistence used them as bases of operations tthen discover how close they were to german occupied tunnels. Backpacked Europe about twenty years back, about all I can remember besides Vienna and parts of Germany.

Teq

5179261 I didn't really spend a noteworthy amount of time in the capital. Most of my visit was based around Lille and Ypres. I did get to see a German memorial whilst I was there, which is partly what's inspired another fic that I have in the works.

I remember memorials even today, but they all kind of blurred together after all these years. I do remember the scars in the land from trenches that cut through farm fields and towns and looking at a map for a town that doesn't exist except on the map because it was destroyed during the Great War.

Teq

5180669 Mmm. Well, war memorials have become part of France's culture in a way, particularly in the north. If you ever visit Langemark (the German memorial), you'll notice a very stark difference between it and all of the allied memorials. It's kind of eerie in a way.

Arrogance is how mistakes happen. Interestingly enough I have been reading the Gestapo for all the fear they engendered were woefully undermanned at even the best of times. Particularly in Germany itself. The best and the brightest were dragged into the SS as well leaving things like investigative work in the hands of older Gestapo or men to old for infantry work.

Teq

5915525 And you'd be right about that. The Gestapo were heavily understaffed, but that didn't stop them becoming infamous throughout Germany and the rest of the world.

Good lord, I’m addicted to this fiction! It’s perfect so far, don’t change anything!

Also, I’d like the authorisation to write the French version of it at some point. Doesn’t have to be now, but I’d love to!

5040022
*Sigh* Okay, THAT is one thing that could change. I’m SICK of the US, of all things, to be called the “land of freedom” or stuff like that. :facehoof: In my mind, Equestrian was actually the UK, and 1) it was DIFFERENT, if not much, from praising the US as the country you can live properly in, even if there was a war going on, and 2) it made SENSE; more sense at least than the USA, especially by freakin’ boat, during freakin’ WWII.

Teq

Heya, thanks for the kind words!
To be fair, I only made Equestria the USA because of the accents. I didn't really put much thought into it if I'm honest :twilightblush:.
By all means, feel free to translate if you please! It'd be far better than any attempt I could ever make :rainbowlaugh:
Thanks again, I'm glad you like it!

8697671
Well, it's okay I guess, just seeing 'Murica everywheeeeeeeeeeeeere. :fluttershbad:

And if you have any doubt concerning a French word/expression, do ask for the correct way of saying it. :pinkiehappy:

(I'll be having so much fun translating this masterpiece! :pinkiecrazy:)

Teq

Oh believe me, I get pretty sick of it too! But then again being a Brit you can't help but feel like the America of Europe sometimes! :rainbowlaugh:
I'm really glad you like it, took kinda a risk with this one. I must say it feels very humbling to have someone offer to translate something, thank you.
I've been on something of a massive hiatus for a long time now. I dunno, just kinda moved on. But now I kinda want to finish this, just for a sense of closure. We'll see!

8698529
To be completely honest, seeing as chapters 3 and 4 were updated about a year after the previous ones, I didn't worry at all, thinking it to be your usual pace. :trollestia: I was just expecting it at some point in the future. Good to see you've got the wish to wrap it up. :D

And it feels very pleasing to have someone respond yes to the request! I mean, this story has me expectant, and you've got me all wrapped up around your finger now, so it feels natural to just want to give the opportunity to read it to others. :raritystarry:

So yeah, overall big thanks for making it, and for answering my comments. :pinkiehappy:

No problem at all chap, I make a point of engaging with as many comments as I can! You're right, I tend to write quite slowly even when I am working on something. But yes, I may take some time to get myself back up to speed and take a crack at finishing it. My writing may have changed since I last looked at it though, but we'll see!

Thank you again for the offer, I wish you luck! :rainbowwild:
