"So, Spike... Twilight's not home?"
"Nope. She's out of town for the next few days."
Flitter slowly walked past Spike, dragging her tail against his side. "Well, Cloudchaser is gone, too. Wonderbolt something or other. I don't suppose I could just, you know, stay here for a night... Or two?"
Spike tried to take a breath of air to clear his mind, but was instead greeted with the mild scent of perfume that was lingering from Flitter's mane.
"I, um, I don't have a problem with that."
"Good," she said, lightly brushing his cheek with hers. "It'll be nice to finally get some alone time with you. I really don’t feel like we get to spend enough time together anymore, what with you working or our families getting in the way."
Spike tried to avoid looking at her but it became rather difficult when she wrapped her front legs around him and pressed her nuzzle right into his ear.
“You know, Spike, I’d really like to see your bedroom,” she whispered. “You always tell me about how comfortable your bed is, so I’d really like to see for myself.”
Spike could feel his head heating up. Flitter slowly released him from her embrace and slowly walked toward the stairs.
“Let’s say we go check it out, together. Okay?”
Spike tried to speak, but could only utter one word.
“Okay.”
*****
A Few Hours Earlier...
"Spike!"
Spike shook his head and snapped out of his stroll down memory lane.
"Please say something. Anything?"
Spike looked up at the tear-stained face of the mare sitting across from him. "What? What am I supposed to say? What you're implying, it's... It's not even possible. I don't think..."
"It is possible. It has to be." Flitter looked him in the eyes as more tears began to fall. "I know it is."
Spike felt a weight drop into his stomach. He wanted to say something, anything to clear things up. To make everything go back to normal. Something to take back what he'd just heard. But the sobs and cries filling his ears took away any hope of that happening.
This was serious. This was real.
"This can't be happening."
“Spike, please, I really need you right now. Please.”
*****
"Spike held his head low as he slowly knocked on the door of the Carousel Boutique. The afternoon sun hung in the sky, signaling the nearing end of the day.
"Hey, Rarity? Rarity, you home?" He paused, awaiting a response. Half of him wanted everything to stay silent, that way he'd have an excuse to go home and just roll under his blankets and forget the world and the problems it just threw on him. But another part, the responsible part he wanted to ignore, knew he needed some advice, despite how tough it might be to accept. Either way, he needed to tell somepony and his best friend in the world was far and away the best option.
The door handle began to jiggle and it slowly pulled open revealing the friend in question.
"Spike? What are you doing here? You're supposed to be well on your way to your show with Vinyl, aren't you?" Rarity scanned his form for a brief moment and instantly realized all was not well. "Spike, what's wrong?"
"Rarity, can I come in? I really need to talk to you."
:Y-yes, of course." She slowly stepped out of the way allowing Spike to enter. "Please, Spike, tell me what's wrong."
Without response, Spike walked inside and collapsed onto her couch. Rarity followed behind, but not before quickly switching her open sign to closed.
"Look, dear, I'm going to go put on some tea while you collect yourself. I'll be back in just a moment, I promise."
Rarity looked back at Spike with a frown adorning her face before exiting the room, leaving Spike to his own devices for the time being.
Spike felt his head swimming with a mixture of pain and memories. Neither were what he wanted in his head at the time, but he had little choice in the matter. His thoughts kept bouncing between his present situation, what happened in his past and what it meant for the future. All three were nothing positive in his current frame of mind.
And it all started with that conversation. It kept replaying in his head:
"Flitter, what's up? I'm really pressed for time right now."
"Spike, you have to promise to listen. And please don't get mad."
"Alright, alright, i promise."
It was giving him a headache just thinking about it.
Luckily, Rarity returned with tea and was able to distract him from his thoughts, temporarily.
"Alright, dear, I brough some herbal tea with gem dust, your favourite." She strolled over and sat next to him, handing him the tea. "Here you are."
Spike took the tea from her and slowly sipped it. It always had a calming effect on him. "Thanks, Rarity, I really appreciate it. Sorry to just kind of intrude like this."
"Oh, Spike, I've gotten used to it at this point in our friendship." Rarity chuckled to herself but quickly silenced after seeing Spike's deadpan reaction. "Er, um, it's no problem at all, Spike. You know i love seeing you."
Spike nodded and slowly sipped his tea, trying to figure out the best way to approach the impending conversation. Should he just let it out, try and avoid the base of the subject, or maybe try and get her to figure it out so he never had to say anything.
It was all so nerve wracking!
"Now, Spike, whenever you're ready, I'm completely open to hear what you have to talk ab-"
"I'm going to be a father!" Spike immediately covered his mouth and collapsed back into the couch. The sound of a teacup hitting the floor immediately greeted his ears, followed by his eyes taking in the sight of Rarity, mouth agape.
“W-What? What are you talking about Spike?” Rarity tried to regain herself, but it was to no avail. “Did I hear you correctly?”
“Yeah,” he said. “Flitter said she’s pregnant. And apparently, I’m the father.”
“But Spike, is that, you know, even possible?”
“Apparently.”
An air of silence developed between them, both unsure of what to say to the other. Rarity, stunned into silence and Spike, just wishing he could wake up from a bad dream.
After a short time and few more sips of tea, Spike finally spoke his mind.
“Rarity, I’m scared. I don’t know what to do.” He could feel tears starting to form around his eyes and did everything he could to hold them back. “I mean, how am I supposed to know what to do. How do I tell Twilight? What am I supposed to do with Flitter now? And… and how can I possibly explain this to Vinyl? I mean, what is this going to mean for us? I don’t want to screw this up!”
Rarity leaned over and pulled Spike into a tight hug.
“Look, we’ll figure it all out. I promise, darling. For now, just relax and let it out.”
Spike buried his head into Rarity’s soft coat and let the tears flow. He had never been as scared as he was at this moment.
And unfortunately, the ride was just beginning.
I was afraid you were going to do this...
I really hope he isn't really the father and it was just from some fling or something she had after Spike...I don't know why but it upset my stomach if Flitter really is pregnant with Spike's kid...Please let this not be his so he can keep together with Vinyl and Flitter can be out of the picture...
I am literately sick right now...
I knew it. Poor spike.
6535307
All will be revealed before the stories' end.
Flitter's playing him. Of course, all it'd take is a magical paternity test to end this crisis.
6535309 I hope so. Because my like for this went down greatly for this story.
6535331 I really hope you are right.
6535335 If only life and love were simple, huh?
6535339 Yeah, but it can never really be.
Mostly with how you write
6535354 Not with Spike bring so nice and her sending him on a guilt trip.
6535353 Not even I understand my own writing sometimes. But, without giving spoilers, this story has an ending that everyone will love. Trust me. I've already run it by my friends and editors.
Just stick around.
Is the entire first part supposed to be in italics?
6535361 I am sticking around for the.
.......go on
stayclassy
Well damn.
Saw that one coming. I don't suppose they have magic spell DNA test do they?
Called it! But damn if this doesn't really bring the message home! Don't think there's a story with this kind of situation for, Spike, in all of Fanfiction.
Great job. All aboard the reality train to "fucked up" ville!
Yeah, see, this wouldn't be my reaction. My reaction would immediately be 'DNA test results first, THEN internal panic over unwanted child'.
I really hope Spike's friends get that into his head first.
(Dramatic zoom up) Called it!
For all the developments that have been happening, I'm actually happy with this chapter. Spike is under extreme duress because of what he was told, and the first thing he does is tell one of his friends. Good decision making this time Spike, let's hope you can keep it up.
6535432 When you face an emotional situation, it's not always easy to think of the most efficient manner of doing things. Unfortunately.
6535448
Yeah, I suppose. I guess I'm just weird because I told my emotions to fuck off and sit in the corner until I need them a LONG time ago. They don't tend to well up unless I want them to.
Get rid of the quotation mark and add a space after the period 'Boutique.
Quotation mark instead of colon.
Capital I
Oh, oh my, this is actually happening, I thought I was clever when I put that in but bravo sir, you have impressed me again.
Well...My theory's all shot to hell.
Though like others were saying, I really hope he actually DOES realize he should get a test done, before taking action. But knowing the normal MLP crew dynamic, they're going to make this a million times worse before it gets any better.
Dammit guys.
I actually thought Spike was going to accidentally walk in on a moment between Rarity and Octavia.
Well even if he is the dad... IRL horses mate in herds right? They could make it work! Somehow! This needs a happy ending and I will accept anything to get there!
6535339 I really hate to say I figured (was afraid) the news was pregnancy. Poor Spike. I can't wait to see how this plays out though. Good show.
I want this to just be a devious ploy to snatch Spike in, since he'd obviously be a good father, and I wouldn't put it past Flitter to lie about the real father. At least....I hope Spike isn't the Father T_T
Hmm... well, you do have options sonny lamb! Can't push her down a flight of stairs, you know, wings and all. A unicorn nurse could probably will it into non existence, or there's always the oldy but goody broken bottle at the end of a broom handle
6535842 Pretty sure he isn't. I mean it wouldn't be a good story for it to actually be his.
Dont need " at the start of that paragraph, and the second sentence needs a space before The.
" not :
Other than that, great update.
6535606 Darn friends and their ruining of important events!
6535842 Me too.
Vinyl scratch and flitter fight to the death. Winner gets spike!
wat
6535373
The italics indicate that the dialogue is sometime in the past. The first set was when Spike and Flitter were together and apparently that happened on the one night that ultimately got Flitter pregnant. (We are still looking for confirmation though, since there is the scenarios that she's playing Spike because he's with Vinyl now), And the second set of the italics would be not that long ago, implying that conversation that started between Flitter and Spike that was at the end of the previous chapter.
The dialogue between Spike and Rarity now is real-time, hence no boldface or italics.
....sigh..Sometimes, I hate it when I'm right..
I feel sorry for Vinyl.
Well my heart is doin' that adrenaline boompity-boomp thing where it starts beating all irregularly from reading this chapter. That's a good sign.
That's a REAL good sign.
Because otherwise it means I'm having a heart attack of some sort.
6535910
That has got to be one of the most fucked up things I've read all of yesterday! But it's eerily super-efficient, save for that last one, but I guess that's why it's called the old and true method.
6535973
Damn you Character continuity! Damn you all the way to Tartarus!
6536322
Oh, and lets not forget the wire hanger or heavy alchohol chugging
So I assume Equestrian is pre abortion if they're stuck with a pregnancy neither mother nor father want.
6535931 She's going to carry it to term only to have a zebra that looks suspiciously like her neighbor.
Fuck, man, these cliffhangers are killing me!

Welp, better get my umbrella...

...cause this is gonna get all kinds a nasty.
I suppose the moral of the story is "don't be daft, wrap your shaft".
Called it!
6536143
6536587 Well, it's not so much that neither of them want it, so much as it's a really surprising and frightening thing to come to terms with.
