ah the benefits of having a power-hungry dictator who hasn't advanced past the "Mine!" phase as a sibling.
Thanks for the update!!

Sexy beast, that's what you are.
If they really cared they should be happy instead of making the poor girl live a life of spinsterhood and too many cats. Celestia's also powerful enough that she doesn't really have to give a shit what they think, and can tell them to fuck off if they don't like it. Implicit in the praetorians' attitude would not only be a betrayal of the one they care for (putting their own desires and thoughts above one who supposedly has their devotion), but also Equestia's values like freedom.
Tercio's main problem would be accusations of nepotism, and in all likelihood if they ever made their relationship committed and formal, he'd have to give up being a praetorian in the same way Shiny had to give up being captain of the guard when he became a prince of crystalville. And in all honesty, the conflict of interest means it would be a very good idea to give that up now. He can still be a badass who helps guard her, but her guards would have every right to wonder if she's making purely logical decisions, or just trying to appease her boytoy.

Haha, my Dref sense was tingling about the end of last week but figured you could do with less pestering.
I'm glad you had a good vacation.
I really love how you write such snappy dialogue. The back and forth between Tercio and Stonewall is both serious, amusing, and endearing all at the same time.
Nice to see you! Really want talk with you someday at a pony convention.
Also, sent you a PM about some small things.

*Flashbacks.* I see what you did there. Even if you didn't. Maybe. Probably. I don't know.
On a slightly more serious note. I have to agree with you. It's just like the Shining Armor situation, though I didn't know if he was still captain of the guard or not, at least for Celestia's guard. But that's a discussion for another time. Either way, yes, this situation could be averted with the other Praetorians wanting to be jealous dicks about it and whatnot, and Celestia just says, 'deal with it' but with more words. Because this is Drefsab. But she'll be nice about it, of course, she's not going to be mean. This is Celestia we're talking about. She COULD say 'fuck off' but she won't. Just like how I could survive a freefall out an airplane without a parachute (it's been done, granted; it was a complete accident because the parachute wouldn't activate but it happened) but I wouldn't bet on it. Yes, I know what you're trying to get at (I think) in that Celestia is the big boss, she can do what she wants. I also really just wanted to make that comparison.
Yes, he could leave his position. But does Tercio WANT to do that? He's worked hard to get where he is, he now has loyalty to not only his Princess, but also his fellow Praetorians. Bonds forged in the fires of battle are hard to break.

In the real world (and in fiction) people and characters have decisions to make. You can't have it all sometimes.
Do people in real life want to give up their jobs and move across a country to be with their SO? A lot of them would probably prefer to stay (obviously some may want a change of scenery), but they move because the sacrifice is worth it.
I'd also point out that sneaking around in secret and having to pretend otherwise isn't exactly enjoyable, and detracts from what you do have. Half the point of a relationship is to actually be in a relationship, not spending enormous time and energy pretending you're not (which also limits the very thing you supposedly find enjoyable).

Yep. I'm glad that you agreed with me, or at least understood what I was trying to say. And that's where we can, or hopefully will, see a huge conflict with Tercio and Celestia. As much as he (or even some of us, I suppose) would like, he can't have both.
Let the bodies hit the floor then?
Geez, Elinwynn. Calm down and get your act together. You've acted like you've already won.
Every time I read the word "boytoy" I keep waiting for Cashmere to show up. Curse you Dref and your awesome Rarity love story. Great, now I'm debating reading Sophistication & Betrayal for the third time.

I know right? I keep having flashbacks.

It's such a good story!
7166345
Yep. Oh, and what was that one noble's name that tried to drug Tercio?
7166345
Right! It was Sapphire Quill! I saw at least one comment saying that she might be Rarity's ancestor. I think that Sapphire could actually be Cashmere's ancestor, instead!
So she uses deceit to start a war out of an insatiable greed and a twisted sense of pride, murders countless individuals -her own family included- because they angered her, blows up in the face of others when she doesn't get her way, and demands sex on a whim?
