I am a highly creative person. Indeed I come from a family of them. My mother was a classically trained seamstress and the only reason that she was unable to put chef in front of her name is she didn't have the diploma. She taught herself carpentry and home repair. My father was, bedsides being a Narcissistic Psychopath, a fully trained certified mechanic and had all the skills of a general contractor, as well as plumbing and electrical. He also was well on his way to becoming a detective
I'm slow. I've been working on writing a single, non-plural story, for just over 2 years. Carry On Wayward Storm is just a simple story about my pegasus OC, Stormwing. Right now, it's just over 35k words, and 81 pages long. That's about 48 words a day, roughly.
So yeah, needless to say even though my story takes place in the middle of Season 4, Season 6 is right around the corner. But on the plus side, I was on the last 2 chapters or so for my story. Huzzah...
To make up for yesterday's blog post on issues with posting chapters (tl;dr Knightly is a lot smarter than I am and already included the features/fixes I was whining about), and in apology for not getting my story done for Jake the Army Guy's Horse Word Extravaganza (darned
Boom, I'm back.
Just got an idea: I got this big ol' map of Equestria, complete with a shit load of races, some new and some canon, and where they go. I need to do something with that. I have no idea what, but something.
Maybe like a Wanderings of a Non-Brony, or Ballad of Echo the Diamond Dog style 'imma just go and see what happens' style story.
This is a question that I asked a few days ago in The Insane Creators Guild, and it's an interesting question for sure.
No, I don't normally speak like that, only when trying to make a joke or be comical in some way.
...
Notice how I said 'trying' and not 'succeeding'.
Anyway, I've been goin' through a phase of listening to brony music and it is awesome.
For me, I'll listen to a particular music group/genre for a couple weeks before moving on to something else.
It keeps things interesting.
"Fluttershy, there ain't no shame in following your dream. The problem most people have with that is they'll say it, but then they all apply it to the same dream - goin' out into the world and getting rich, or famous, or bein' involved in some great dinosaur dig or building a rocket to the moon. And there ain't nothing wrong with all that. But you gotta stay true to what you want, even if the music in your ears ain't what other people hear."

Three AM and I have been seeing each other lately. It's a strange, torrid affair that always makes me feel far more alone at the end of the day. It's a weird time where the only sound I hear is the soft whispers of my computer's fans trying to keep my ancient desktop from overheating, the high-pitched electronic buzz that comes from my monitor, and the soft click-clacking of my keyboard keys. I've found that 3am Pacific Standard Time also seems to fall precisely when my friends from around the
What gets me going as a writer?
Well, I'd probably say the biggest thing that motivates me to write is music. Every time I come up with an idea for a story, or write a chapter, I'm constantly listening to music. The music helps dictate the mood and feel I am trying to go for, and usually I go for sad music.
Note to Self: Do not write down a detailed idea of what to write next in a story. Instead write down a teaser about what might happen next. Don't defuse the excitement; enhance the need to write at the next opportunity!
I think that while there will always be praise and criticism and it depends on how we respond to it, we should never bully, degrade, or discourage each other nor others for making fanfiction, fan-art, OCs, etc. Because everyone is different and we should embrace those differences and spread love and acceptance for the amount of effort, creativity, and care put into what we create, in my opinion.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?
Have a great day!
Hi everyone! In light of a recent bout of creative flow, I will be publishing a completely random story. It will be almost drabble-style written because....well just because! See you soon!
The Power of Instrumental Music
I have found that in order for me to write the best quality first-drafts, I have to put myself in the most appropriate mood. To accomplish this, I have one simple strategy that often works more than not.
It’s actually a three step process, and it consists of the following required tasks:
1) Identify the genre in which I am trying to write
2) Find appropriate instrumental music that relates to what I’m trying to write
A brief public service announcement for every artist, musician, craftspony, writer, creative type in the fandom, (and frankly, for creators everywhere).
This chapter has been slow to come out because I've been experiencing burnout at work, and it's been affecting my whole creative process. A few days ago I said, "Fuck it."
I'm happy to say that I've hit a new creative stride. Not only is the chapter complete, but I wrote 7,000 words the other day. I've been writing a consistent number daily and hope to see my productivity rise. Maybe I will release another story soon, I don't know???
I took a little time this last week to code a specific piece of software which does one very simple thing. You click a button, and it shuffles thousands of lines of descriptive text I wrote to create a unique and thoroughly detailed pony appropriate for Fallout Equestria's setting.
