Sidenote: I appreciate the criticism I received prior to writing this from the people who said that it "couldn't be done", and that "Rarity and Spike being together just won't work out". If it weren't for you guys, I would never had been inspired to prove you wrong by creating this. Thanks! :D

Anyway, this is a cute romance fiction about my favorite - and really, the only normal - couple in Ponyville. Enjoy!

Faithful knight of Celestia, Sir Spike de Draco leaves Canterlot with his young shieldmaiden Twilight Sparkle to embark upon a journey of stolen pony hearts, spontanious beard-sprouting, dozens of broken teeth and the smiting of evil left and right.

Spike has long since liked Rarity, and when Twilight Sparkle decides to hold a party and she's invited, Spike must decide if he will build up enough guts to tell her how he feels. He is determined to do so, but that has happened before and he's still chickened out.

Spike finally wants to tell Rarity about his feelings for her. But he feels to nervous to tell her directly, so he decides to get her a gift for Hearth's Warming Eve. While trying to find the perfect gift, some complications happen. Will Spike finally be loved by the pony of his dreams?

Spike doesn't attend this years Gala, seeing that it was just to boring and uptight for his taste. However, the boredom at a rather deserted Ponyville proves to just as boring as the Gala. A whisper coaxes Spike into attending the Gala to create mischief.

For most of his life Spike has yearned to be treated as more than a hatchling; only five years younger than Twilight by all rights he should be considered a young adult, or at least a teenager, by pony standards.

His mind, though still developing, is at times equal to an adult pony's thanks to the many years he spent working alongside his studious caretaker. When forced to focus can could quickly outpace and outwit most colts his age.

His body on the other hand is tiny and adorable.

As with all dragons the pace of his growth matches the demands of the world around him; with the carefree, relaxed life of a librarian's assistant there have been few demands a baby dragon's form could not meet. Until now.

Faced with other dragons, rivals and peers much more fit for survival Spike's body has started working overtime to catch him up and prepare him for the long, difficult life of a dragon. Fortunately, this means he will soon have a body that matches his mind; large enough to take care of himself and get a small token or respect now and then.

Unfortunately this means he has hit puberty.

It had been a year since Spike went on the Great Dragon Migration, and while he didn't find any of the answer he was looking for, he did find his place. Now, after making a startling discovery in the caves by Ponyville, Spike has another chance to get the answers he once longed for, but will he be able to accept the truth as he learns what it means to be a dragon assistant?

This is only my second fanfic, so while I don't mind it being ripped apart without mercy over just about everything, please do so in a kind, loving, and toleratant manner. This is also going to be my first crack at coming up with an entirely original story, so I'm not quite sure how it will turn out, but I have an idea on where this will go.

Edit: I redid the Long description, because I realized how stupid the first one sounded after rereading it once or twice. I'm just about done setting the stage for the rest of the story. If all goes well, I should have the next chapter up next weekend. Depends on school work.

Spike opens up to Twilight about his struggles with his gender identity.

Admitting you're not what others expect of you is difficult. Admitting you're not what you expect of yourself is even harder. And some things don't have simple answers. Spike can't figure out if his time in Ponyville has changed him, or if he was never quite what he imagined he would be in the first place.

Ahhhh... Daydreams, those brief escapes from the waking world into the realm of fantasy, where one's deepest desires roam rampant and unhindered, giving birth to vivid landscapes and scenarios so finite and fleeting in their magnificence. Let's see what's on the unconscious minds of Ponyville's various residents shall we, mon ami?

Spike, feeling alone, is delighted when one day Rarity offers to take Spike on a first date.

Ignoring the foreseeable problems with a relationship with Rarity, Spike happily agrees and prepares for the time of his life dating Rarity.

Unfortunately, Spike's luck, and love are seemingly coming to a crashing halt as he starts arguing with Rarity, causing Twilight Sparkle to be placed in the awkward situation of deciding between friends.

Spike fights the odds, Cupid, and Lady Luck to keep Rarity, but will he be successful?

Author's Note: I know a Rarity/Spike story isn't exactly original, but I've tried to give this my original, perhaps somewhat darker take. I picked it because with my first story, I wasn't trying to write some fanbase changing, incredible, best-selling fanfic, I just wanted something to write, so I could receive criticisms on my writing style, and take it from there.
