This story is a sequel to Too Close to the Sun

"I have experienced a change. For the first time in many years, I find myself uncertain of what step to take next. I am not one to be so perturbed, but here I stand- as unsure and inexperienced as a young girl.

I have... a companion. A champion to call my own. In all my years I have stood alone, yet now I have a hand to hold in the darkness. It is... difficult to know whether or not I have made a wise decision.

Recently I discovered this journal, a gift from dear Luna that has been left untouched until now. I believe that I will, for the time being, use this diary to record my thoughts on the matter. Perhaps this will help clear my mind."

Long before many empires were even a passing thought to any, a creature was born. This creature was born long before the rise of the Three Tribes of Equestria, long before Boreas' image graced Eques and rose the griffons from squabble and squalor, and longer yet than the first native set hoof on Zebrica. It watched over the birth of the Solar and Lunar diarchs, it observed as the glorious mountain empire of the Diamond Dogs crumbled and vanished in the winds of history. It lead the enslaved zebras from Griffonia to Zebrica and helped them settle the untamed wilds of the new continent. In many countries, the world over, the first recorded pieces from many empires were of this creature, some depicting it as a god, others as a mortal with a curse laid upon it for some unknown deeds, and others claim it to be no more than an icon of goodwill and that the creature never truly existed. After all, once empires were established and understanding of the world grew, fewer and fewer sightings of this creature occurred before it eventually vanished from the world altogether, soon becoming nothing more than a myth and legend told to the young at bedtime.

She's a princess. If not THE Princess. You know- the ruler of Equestria, keeper of the sun, most powerful being on earth, all that jazz.
It's not your fault she's also unbelievably, irrefutably, incomparably gorgeous.

But it was your fault that she overheard you saying just that. Oh yeah, it really was. And let me just tell you something:

To let that happen was really freakin' stupid.

Regal, royal, goddess of the moon, protector of dreams and vanquisher of nightmares, guide of the deceased, that's what the masses oftentimes call me.
But in reality I am a hideous, twisted monster who wrongfully took the lives of hundreds of innocent ponies, hundreds of dreams and wishes crushed in a single night because of my own lust for power and glory.
I am a murderer, and I cannot stand the pony I see in the mirror for she is a murderer too.

Luna struggles with living with the guilt of knowing that she has done some horrible things when she had let the Nightmare demon take control of her body, but something else that has been plaguing her for nearly a year begins to ramp up in intensity, and she suddenly has an increase of thoughts that she knows are not her own. She is brought alarmingly close to the point of doing something unthinkable when something else reveals It's presence.
