Rainbow Dash makes a bet with Twilight. The terms are simple; two-thousand words with a clear plot by tomorrow. Can she do it?

Probably not.

Time is not a single line. It is many lines, constantly splitting and converging. For as long as the premise of time has been speculated, society has run on the hypothesis of cause to effect - the idea that a single action can contribute to producing any number of results. But perhaps our view is backwards? Perhaps, instead, the numerous actions we might potentially take all lead toward a single inevitable result? Perhaps our perception of the instance that is 'now' is derived not from the actions of the past but the conclusions that lie in the inescapable future?

My name is Spike, and this is the story of the journey that created a mad scientist out of an average young dragon.

The gryphons were not always monsters. That came later.

In the earliest days, they were our friends. They flew alongside pegasi. They shared the land with earth ponies. They studied beside unicorns. There was no fear between us. That came later too.

Time drew our people apart, but it was not time that made them monsters. They made that choice themselves; they chose their fate. And it was the greatest gryphon who sealed it.

Mood Wings - Observations on Pegasus Body Language.

When Twilight Sparkle finds this book, she discovers an entirely new field of research. The secrets of pegasus wings lie before her, and she insists on making her own observations on the matter.

How?

Field research, of course.

Every week or so, Rarity gathers all of her friends for a little get-together at her boutique. Or at a cafe. Or in Sugarcube Corner. Anywhere that serves tea or tea can be brought in.

And every time, as soon as their conversation steers towards that most intimate of topics, Rainbow Dash falls silent.

There was only one explanation. For all of it. All of the strange, erratic behavior. Her irrational fear of the sun. Her nocturnal habits of locking herself in in the dark and closing all the blinds. Wearing her sunglasses everywhere, even inside! It was time to invest in some silver, garlic, and a wooden stake.

Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie dress up as superheroes and head out to fight crime - or boredom. Same thing, really. When Pinkie Pie reveals that her favorite superhero is even cooler than Daring Do, trying to find an opportunity for heroics won't be the only thing gnawing on Rainbow's mind.
