Edit: The ending of the original story by Iceman was not up when I started writing this, so now it has its own quirks that are invalidated by his ending.Fortunately, this is fan-fiction, and coming up with the wrong conclusion is better than having the solution laid out before you.
Anyway, don't correct me on that metric, it seems that things went even more post human in the fic than I had expected, but, this story has it's own direction, and fixing it to line up with the original would ruin the whole thing now.

It's just nice seeing other people's perspectives on this. The whole "If you would be more satisfied with a different personality, those changes will be made... but how much is the same person being satisfied?" theme is just cool, and needs to be explored more. (Now if only I could get my bloody fanfiction on that down on paper decently.)

Okay, I feel like I should explain, the italics were an excerpt of some fictional text which I found myself writing at the beginning of the chapter. I realized that it was turning into an essay, so I included it as an excerpt from a book that would have no place to exist in the canon (of friendship is optimal) in the first place.

That might be true, but in the case of this chapter, which I wrote with the intention of it being disturbing, it cannot be attributed to CelestAI. This is the result of an incredibly drawn out life with many memories forgotten, but more importantly, it is the result of existence in a utopia where honesty is not entirely necessary to find friends and survive. Also, when you have given up someone who has offended you, in this kind of situation, when you have taken on a new identity by choice, it is at the discretion of the person whether or not they should reconnect. That is also coupled with the problems which come about in extreme longevity, where the past extends so far back, that you can simply chose to disregard the parts of it that you don't like.
It is more the issue of Crepescular Rays, her/his mindset puts him/her in a place where it is not an ethical or moral conflict to resolve in dealing with his/her long lost father, but a matter of preference.
Overall, this issue occurs because of the conditions created in posthuman scenarios, and is independent of any particular situation created by technology. Also look up the ship of Theseus to see why this might happen to humans after so long with so many changes in their minds and such.
Of course, if you read it slightly differently, it could simply be that he/she no longer sees themselves as the same person which the father knew, thus not the person which the father was looking for, as he did not want to see what his son had become.
I want to read this and enjoy it but I can't. The spacing in this story is atrocious. For the entirety of the first chapter we have nothing but CelestA.I.'s monologuing internally and with the text bricks at work here, it's really hard to keep your place.
