Thank you.
Is him creating a spell to figure out how much magic he has related to the comments in the previous chapter

Yes it's a good idea, and I think it makes sense.
look
copy
So why hasn't he been working on a full book spell? yeah I know he's doing everything else but it seems like it would just a bit of automation away.

Its something I want to do down the line but don't want to rush it, and as always thank you.
Some books have drawings... does that mean they are trying to recreate them each copy? Possibly creating horrible copies like what happens when you fax a fax that has already been faxed.
Shade already has a spell for drawing in water from the atmosphere. If he can find a small spacial spell, he could make a compact sprinkle system to be activated by a certain degree of heat or smoke / carbon levels and cause rainfall in a certain area. Even a detector/alarm could help save ponies from accidents with fire or monoxide. I’d wager Celestia would probably like that.
Possibly there’s some other fire protection devices he could create. Like a bookshelf or bed sized fire protection bubble. I can see parents or book enthusiasts finding it desirable. The bed one might need some air filtration.

Yes but they're doing it with magic and magic unlike fax machines makes lossless copies because magic.
Really, that's the only way this system works, even a modern copier machine would show issues after a few copies of copies.
Otherwise they would be having to correct as they go along which would make all this take insanely longer and still result in corruption.

no no, you forget... they have to hand write out the pages to make copies from... the spell doesn't work on the book.
so... if they were to make a copy of a fouls picture book... they have to "attempt" to copy the images by hoof, first... then use the copy spell to make duplicates of that.
Thanks for the update!

You're right I went back and checked I really didn't think that was that way, i'm not sure how I missed it.
ch28
Which implies that prior to his spell they would have had to manually copy any art and also implies that his new spell does copy art.
Then
Which I thought implied that they could use it directly on books or they had books that were bound in such a way they could debind, scan and process ~20 pages at a time.
but then there's this in ch38
which seems to state he is literally writing the individual pages out like a cavepony instead of having the spell do it ~20 pages a cast.
Then
Which outright states it doesn't work on books because it can't select pages. !!
Which again as you were pointing out would result in lots of copy losses especially on artwork, it would seem like it would be easily worthwhile to debind the book so the spell could be used on the individual pages rather than writing (hoofwriting?!) the pages out.
I don't know how I missed that I would have said something about it earlier.
Yeah normally there would be some damage to the original from the de/rebinding but maybe magic helps with that? Idk maybe that would be enough risk to do it the hard way with a vastly inferior copy instead but really?

Well this is something I never thought of.
First the copy spell doesn't copy art, I meant to imply that but probably didn't make it clear, I'll fix it after this.
Second I wanted to add something about others doing the art in other book last chapter but didn't want to fit it in, so that will probably pop up soon.
Third as for why they don't de-bind books? I straight up didn't think of that, I can think of a reason of two as to why it's like that but while writing I just didn't realize, so I'll probably have to find a way to fix that.
And finally the copy problem, I did think of this at the time but thought it would be a bit much to dedicate time to Shade fixing it, so while its not stated the spell makes perfect copy's.
And yes while hoof copying pages will cause errors to copy over, if you don't have the spell you need to write out each page and while any errors won't be copied over they will still exist, but with the spell you just need to get a page right once and you can copy it as much as you need.
Thank you both for the new perspective and help.

... use a purification and/or filter rune to remove the binding glue from the book... take the pages out... run copy spell. ... what if he use filter spell to just remove the glue to a bowl and another spell can be use later to rebind the books with it? lol
Also the copy degradation problem was more of a writers errors pile up sort of thing. I figured the spell made perfect copies but the ponies making the first manual copy can make errors(spelling or otherwise) or not perfect writing.
