This is a fanfic for Monochromatic's The Enchanted Library and thus contains spoilers + won't make sense if you haven't read it! Specifically, it takes place between chapters 35 and 36, and covers things from Rarity's perspective which are explored as part of the plot of the sequel, The Enchanted Kingdom.

After Twilight shuts her out, Rarity tries to move on. She tries, and tries, and tries. It's hard, and her failures hurt, but her success hurts far more.

also the title is a lyric from crying in public by chairlift

gosh this is so so lovely!!! i adore how u do prose, the rhythm of it flows so well and hits exactly those spots in my ears to make the words sing, and i loooove the change in tenses from past the present as rarity slowly starts to move on, and then to future at the end with twilight AHHH its so so good!! words r just another medium the same as visual art and the choices u make paint an even better and more beautiful story because of them. fantastic work ^^

thanks eve!! i'm so glad you appreciate the rhythm, it's definitely something i aim for. i swear i'm like five bad days away from straight-up sticking enjambment in my prose. the use of future tense was actually inspired by a homestuck fic (i know) which did it way better than me, but i love the feeling it gives off. specifically i used the slow movement of tense over the story as a way to show like, even when rarity is free of her grief it's still pulling her back. that comparison means a lot from an accomplished artist like u!

What a beautiful read! I adore the TEL series, this feels like a lost episode(?) or smth. The feels bruh. :fluttercry:

I don't want to have to have already read the entire "Enchanted Library" before I get to read this short story!

:raritydespair:

(Nothing against TEL or Monochromatic, it's just that TEL is hundreds of thousands of words long and it's a bit hard for me to get around to.)

Wow, I think the last time I felt so much emotion over a fic was probably, well, TEK itself. This was absolutely beautiful, managing to have a distinct style while still feeling like it would have fit right in with the rest of the series. Rarity's struggles feel painfully real, and it was genuinely difficult for me to finish this story with how well everything was portrayed, but I'm glad I powered through it, because this so, so good.

Love the story, also I was wondering if you take story requests

This was a wonderful story that did well to capture this period of Rarity's life. And Ink's, in fact. If you were worried about taking away from TEL, then don't be, because this was a great addition that filled in some gaps I didn't realize were primed to be filled.

The prose was generally good, but I do feel like some of the same thoughts were repeated at points. There is poetic merit to that of course, though.

Finally got around to reading this, and I’m sorry it took me so long! This was a great read. You did a really good job characterizing not just Rarity, but Mono’s Rarity in the intervening years. A little piece of the story that I never knew I wanted to see :pinkiehappy:
