He was a bit irritated that his son would come and bother him while he was trying to deal with his own issues, especially with something as silly as a nightmare.

I really liked this story up until this line. You had the perfect opportunity to have Night Light immediately and selflessly put aside his own issues to help his son, and yet you choose to make him annoyed at and dismissive of Shining's fears. Yes, you try to make up for this right afterward, but I still feel like this was some really awkward, unfitting characterization for a sweet story like this.
