This story is a sequel to Path of the Unforgiven
-Equestria is beset by a grand conspiracy when a secret cabal seeks to overthrow the rule of the Alicorns. In doing so, they unleash a monster that threatens to cover the land in perpetual fear and darkness.

It's just how it came out. I did not plan on splitting the 1st chapter, and I didn't feel like there was a strong enough story-beat to support a partition. And I do not intend the other chapters to be near as long. I totally understand how exhausting it might be for some.

I've heard about gettin' it all out but... But come on! There are at least 5 chapters in this single well... Chapter! 
Ah well, still fun, still quality. Keep up the good work and I'm eager to see where this goes!

I debated splitting this up for weeks. Ultimately the decision came down to what story moment I wanted to build to, and leave off at the end of the 1st chapter. I didn't think there were enough plot beats to support a quality partition of the word count. Most of the chapter is characters just talking, walking around, and playing with subtext. If there were more meaty bits, then it would have been split.
I know, I know...
I also didn't want to disrupt the sequence of "Some Kind of Monster" & "This Monster Lives" chapter titles.
Believe me, I know it's tough. I read through it four times in the proofing/editing phases. I certainly DON'T want this to be the process for every chapter, this was exhausting enough. I like to think of it as a double-episode season premier.
But I'm glad you think it was worth your time, reader's approval is my greatest reward. It'll be a little bit before I start on chapter 2, as I go to work on my Godzilla/Marvel stuff for a while (I should have something published for that this month). But there is a ton more down the pike for Dark Days, and what I think is a really killer first arc.
