Well frick.
Eeehhh, if they're still working with black powder matchlocks, a sufficiently tough cuirass will probably still shrug it off. I mean, we're talking some seriously heavy steel plate, but this is where the term "proofing" originally came from. The smith would shoot his newly-made cuirass and leave the scar as "proof" that his work was sound. "Bullet proof".

We did worse in times when we used muskets
There we're worse ways to execute someone in these times, in medieval time especially
The revolutionists are not worst than us. We would do similar things on revolutions, like on the French one.
Trying to sell us some Equestrian Imperial (similarity to British Empire) like ideology, propaganda, point of view to us won't just make us view revolutionists as bad guys.

However, this is Royal Guard armor we're talking about. It's not exactly as as heavy as the armor you showed in your example.

Neither I nor Jack made any claims about some specific make of armor, Jack said a musket would "make metal armour quite literally explode" and I corrected him.
For that matter, the bat pony was apparently out of armor, given that it wasn't mentioned, so we have no real word on how Guard armor would fare either.

True.
This will end very bloody. Once the musket get its introduction the firearm race started. Goodbye bow and arrow. Armor development will be especially tricky since slash, stab & distance weapons need to be considered.

Nope
Sounds like more of a griffin than a gryphon.
"And the time is- Ack!
"Silence, slave! you have spoken your last word!
"Be kind, sir."
"He was just gonna say..."
"Say what?"
"The time is NOW!

Matchlocks? Ain’t seen people use those before.
The griffin matchlocks sound closer to early arquebus, a good armor could still save a life if so

For those of you that don't know what primitive firearms look like this is a great couple min vid to show them to ya, but also shows what a they can do vs a breastplate. sure it 'might' help, but by and large there is a reason we stopped using armor like that, and it is because firearms, even primitive ones, render the finest plate obsolete. Not saying its a 100% penetration, more like 95... with those odds I would rather be able to move and not get hit than be weighed down by 40-60 lbs of armor that will not stop the projectile with certainty.

Thank you very much, that is a mighty useful reference video I hadn't run across yet
I hope Jack is thinking what I was thinking when he asked about those hidden entrances.
"To kill a snake you cut off its head".
Although the lunar guard scout prisoners will most definitely take priority.

What the effectiv range? A gun only is useful when its user hits the target 50-100 meters? Jack Wins all long range fights but even if his armor stops the bullets he will suffer body trauma like broken bones.

It's a revolution against another government, a foreign ruler.
It's not a coup where another noble kills the king or another noble for power.
A revolution is like a Hydra, and as long as the populace, people and free will live, it not only will grow back its heads and multiply them but the body too.
You can't kill a movement, idea or ideology, because it's immortal
10580644
While that is true, removing the one's with the most drive and the one's with the overarching plans can help stymie the tide of a cause and buy time to rally a force against it. It can also help put incompetent leaders in place who might bog down the revolution's progress. It's honestly a coin toss if it'll help or not.
10580726
They can only slow the revolution down but can't stop it or win against it.
There is a reason why the American Revolution, the French revolution, and the Russian Revolution won.
It's the natural order of things when the monarchy is becoming obsolete and replaced, especially if that monarchy is a foreign power occupying your country.
Can we just say Rest In Peace To that thestral who was shot through the head by the first-ever griffon-made gun?

Yes. They shall be honored.

Honestly, the effective range depends on the ammunition and gun barrel. If they're using ball ammo with no rifling, it might be somewhat accurate to 100m, rifling increases that. As you said, Jack's gun wins in terms of range and accuracy. His armor WOULD likely stop the rounds without doing much more than hurt if he's using either a metal plate or ceramic, as the bluntness of the round (assuming it's a ball round) means it wouldn't have as much penetrating power as a modern pointed tip round. The thing is, if he gets hit in an area where he DOESN'T have armor... He's going to get seriously messes up.

At least they don't have the Minie Ball
As I said this as many times when things go south, "Shit has hit the fan".
When asked soldiers will tell you they started fighting battles for their country.
But as time passes...
They will say they fought for their brothers beside them instead.
You would be hard-pressed to have a soldier give up on their own.
They're stubborn as f@#$ that way.
I wonder how sturdy the muskets are snd ho open they can be used before weapon malfunction become a threat to the users.
Crossbow with drums seem to make more sense actually.
