Before I read this, I must know: What does "awakened" mean? I mean, unless this is a World of Darkness crossover...

Lol no it isn't. An Awakened, as I tried to explain in the first chapter, but apparently must expand in later chapters, is a human born with insane amounts of magic from Lotus's world. Some humans can use magic but it only amounts to light shows or starting a small campfire, nothing big. Awakened are magical powerhouses, so much so that not only can they slow down the aging of others and wipe out entire armies (or world's in this case) but they themselves are Nye immortal, unless they consume a Black Lotus, a flower poisonous to them.
The problem stems from the fact that most use them From a young age they are used as tools, malnourished as to keep them physically weak and forced to be weak mentally by those around them. They aren't even treated as human, not even given names, and what few personal effects they have they must hide or keep close else it too be taken from them.
