Some noble would later blame the incident on too many doors in the restaurant.
Damn, sirens can really hold their liquor.

That guy is a dumbass.
Awesome, this made my day bud, do not normaly read these stories but dangit, ya got hooks sunk deep in me now
9053377
congrats on getting featured! love the story so far
9053364
She drinks...
Like a fish.
So Fleur *is* a siren, but says she's 'possessed' by a siren, is the separation of her base urges and her 'proper' personality more of a mental control than her true nature?
9053451
I was actually just checking up on this story earlier today to see if you'd come back, and an hour later what do I see?
Another great chapter, and some more insight into the Siren. I'm glad to see Like becoming more comfortable around Fleur, and the section in the restaurant with the short table made me laugh. Cheers!
Damn it Fimfiction, I had this story tracked for a REASON and you fail to tell me of an update?!
But really, I am loving this story and the developing dynamic between Luke and Fleur. I can't wait for Fleur to FINALLY ask him out on an Official date and his reaction to it
Je suis impatient de plus de chapitres!
Edit: I was SOOOOO Tempted to write this entire post out in French
This is amazingly fun.
Are the italics in quotes translated French?
Can't believe the guy has never heard mon amour before. It's like a cliche or something. Silly fella. I wonder if Fleur even noticed she said it...
Heckin' cute if she hadn't.
Can't wait for more.
Dude, Luke, you missed the all-important follow-up question that you need to know! What the hell does she want from you? She can apparently kill people at will, so going into this vague "she likes you" crap blind is just about the dumbest thing ever.
9053364
9053377
Sounds like someone doesn't know a thing about fire safety...
9053453
Ooooooo... That's an interesting point. Perhaps her frustration is aggravated by active denial of self in order to (hopefully) avoid some of the drawbacks. But that kind of resistance might also turn her into a powder keg when exposed to the right fuse.
hmmm ye. yup, still shippin it

Heck, that's always one thing to hear from a pretty lady that you are having dinner with, "Oh yeah, i am possesed by this demon like spirit, and she REALLY likes you."
9053905
This made me have a literal spit take.
9053401
9053407
Thanks! Glad you like it.
9053453
Whilst technically 'possessed' by a siren, she is for all intents and purposes considered 'a siren' by others, mainly because of how closely intertwined the two personalities are. Obviously, they share the same body, and one couldn't live without the other, so both terms are correct... That's the way I think of it, anyway.
9053820
Well, this Is Luke we're talking about. He's perhaps not the sharpest tool in the box at times. As for Fleur, she probably didn't even realise what she said to him—she'd have been a bit more worried that he might have figured it out otherwise.
9053877
I think 9053905 has summed it up pretty nicely.
9054016
Makes for an exciting evening, don't you think?
Spellchecker strikes again.
9054546
Spellchecker Fail or Funny Horse Pun?
9053905
9054231
Questionable theory, in my opinion. Fleur spent a bunch of time talking about feeding from Luke, and next to none talking about her feelings.
The closest we get are moments like:
Which is still fairly vague. He's unique. He might be absolutely, literally delicious.
I'm not saying that you should just skip to her admitting feelings, but I would very much fault Luke if he isn't still fairly suspicious. He's still within the very initial stages of dealing with something so far outside his normal experience that, well...
9053364
As a born Texan myself, shame on you for bringing that up. It's not even one-tenth funny.
As for the story, go on.
9053877
People keep killing people at will all the time. That means nothing. If anything a being that old claiming zero bodycount should automatically be assumed lying.
9054894
Stuff like this is funny until it happens to you. Then it becomes sad... Then funny again when it happens to someone else next. Such is life.
9054231
So what you mean to say is, there WAS a point where there was Fleur the unicorn and X the siren as physically separate beings? Or just_sirens don't have a solid physical presence at all?
Stellar!
9054869
I'm starting to think just about everything in this fic is questionable to you.
To the siren? Well, he is, but that doesn't necessarily mean she wants to eat him or otherwise consume him in some way. I think my earlier use of the word "prey" in the story perhaps threw you off a bit. I may edit it. As for Fleur admitting her feelings, well, she's just plain scared of the outcome. If it doesn't go her way then the whole situation would turn into the biggest problem she's ever had to deal with. Sirens don't typically deal with rejection very well.
9054894
Come on, man. It's a little bit funny. JimboTex is from Texas as well, (hence the 'Tex' in his name) so it's not like he's ripping on another state or anything.
9055254
Nah. Sirens are born sirens. And the siren has a name: Fleur.
They can, at certain times, but we're getting into spoiler-y territory here.
9055290
9055250
Too true, unfortunately. Seems the new generation these days find sick pleasure in people getting fatally injured or end up in excruciating pain. (Sighs in disappointment)
9055316
Would you find it funny if it turns out that one of the victims is your long-time friend who's been there for you when you needed a friend most? I lost someone who was like a brother to me in Parkland, so excuse me for my lack of sense of humor.
9055492
Of course not. The joke was making fun of the idiot official who suggested reducing the number of doorways in a school in place of more effective gun control and screening. It was in no way intended to make fun of the victims of the shooting. I thought that much would be obvious?
9055492
9055503 is spot on about my intent. It was never my intent to make light of the tragedy of frequent mass shootings in this country. My satirical comment was more aimed at the tendency of certain members of the political class to make complete tits of themselves in commenting on the tragedy, as that's where your ire should be aimed. That's all I'll say on the subject outside of PMs, to keep the comments section free of drama.
9055246
Sure. But when someone says "I've killed someone," it's probably a good idea to check into the specifics. Y'know, for personal safety and all. Because there's a big difference between "I took a man out 'cause he spilled a drink on me," and "I took a man out because he was trying to screw my ability to exist."
9055316
Well, 'cause it's a really good fic! I want to see it continue to be really good! And the most obvious pitfall for these kinds of fics is just sort of... skipping obvious resolutions to sources of tension, because finding workarounds that aren't ham-handed is more difficult writing.
I don't want to see Luke just skip very pertinent questions just so the story can remain tense. That's cheap, easy, and unrealistic, in my opinion.
My point has always been: does he know that. If he doesn't, then why isn't he asking about it? Because there's a big difference between "I'm interested in eating you" and "I'm interested in you,," especially given the huge difference between "I killed a man because" and "I killed a man in clear self-defense."
And seeking answers to questions like that can be just as tense as the situations that lead to them! Fleur probably won't like his suspicion, even if it turns out to be perfectly warranted.
Make sense?
Yay update. Do it Luke! Put your arm around her!
9055591
One reason he wouldn't be worried about the situation too much is Celestia. She would not send him into clear danger. While Fleur is her friend, and an old one at that, so far Celestia did not give any reason to believe she's willing to sacrifice her subjects to her, that she even DOES this kind of thing. Besides, Fleur herself said 'if 'she' wanted to eat you, you'd never know'. That, plus the song of desire back there in the street, would prove quite firmly she's not interested in... draining him dry, or anything of the short-term negative variety.
9055316
Not posession then. She's just that deep in denial. For a creature that's naturally emotional and passionate, if the Dazzlings are even remotely indicative... Well, Faust help anyone around when she finally cuts loose.
Welcome back, thanks for the update!
Any story with Fleur is a good. Siren Fleur is best.
9055633
You're right.
But!
Luke still hasn't had a chance to talk to Celestia. It's all fine and dandy to assume that Celestia's lack of input is in fact tacit consent, but I would like to reiterate that Luke is still in the formative stage of a situation that is wildly outside his life experience. He's gotten little from Fleur so far, and less from Celestia, and is really just running on assumption. And this is at a time when Fleur says "yes, my 'alter ego' killed someone because that person made unwanted advances." I'd figure any rational person would think to themselves "ok, well, it's high time I make sure of where I stand."
I need MOAR!!!!
Great chapter, can't wait for the next one!
9055591
This is already clarified by Fleur's wording:
The key word here is boldness. This suggests Gronag was indeed going after the gem with nefarious intentions. The siren may be a loose cannon at times, but she's not going to off someone for spilling a drink on her.
Yes. Fleur specifically said he has nothing to fear from the siren. Luke doesn't have any reason not to believe her, and this is backed up by what 9055633 pointed out:
Luke trusts Celestia completely, mainly because all of the help she gave him when he arrived. Why would she bother with any of that if she was just going to throw him away as a snack for a siren? As stated, she would never have sent him to work for Fleur if it was going to be in any way dangerous for him.
I should also reiterate for anyone still curious—sirens do not physically eat people in this 'verse. They feed on emotion, not flesh.
Whoa! I am loving this story! You describe the models so well! And the bit with Celestial being a lap got a good chuckle out of me. I'm gonna have to read this again causee the parts in French, not that i mind of course! I like it so much I don't mind reading back through it all
9055503
I tend to take things seriously at times, so I honestly never saw it as a joke. I do like to laugh, but when it comes to something like that it isn't really funny to me.
But yeah, reducing a number of doors in schools is never the best idea. Otherwise, if there was only one door leading in and out, the shooter will just stand there and have a field day shooting those that dare to get past them. The official really was a moron for coming up with that idea.
Welcome back! I hope your vacation was enjoyable. I love the update. I'm glad Fleur explained things to Luke and hopefully they can move forward.
J'aime cette histoire!
Fukken A mate, Ima need a lot more of that
great story so far
Pensez-vous que vous êtes drôle, mon amour?
You think you are funny, my love? This line in particular I like.
Rereading for the Nth time, just noticed this:
Luc is going to leave 80 bits on the bill of "just over 70" , then Fluer leaves 100 and makes a remark about always overtipping.
Where I live (northern United States) leaving 80 on 70+ would be an insultingly low tip; while 100 on 70+ would be a little high, but not unreasonable.
I feel like this math changes Luc's character from a loveable dude into a dime a dozen scumbag dudebro.
Recommend either upping his top it lowering bill have more favorable characterization.
Tip stiffers without extreme cause are bad people.
9319601
This is probably because wait staff in the US rely so heavily on tipping to make a living. I live in the UK, where the wait staff have to be paid a liveable wage by law, and tips are just a bonus. A 15% tip here is actually fairly generous. (Also, the bill is just under seventy, not over)
Hope this clears things up.
9319601
Tipping guidelines vary from place to place. In some locations it is considered an insult to leave a tip as it implies that the waiter is underpaid and needs your charity. Other places like in the United States have the minimum wage 1/3 to 1/4 of normal if you are waitstaff. Lobbying has pushed the idea that inconsistent tips should be arbitrarily averaged and counted towards their actual pay.
However, since the only canon evidence of tipping was a jewel (the value of which in equestria seems to vary from what our world might put on it, to being used as a garnish for petravores) in Rarity takes Manehatten, we can draw no inferences as to the custom in Equestria.

My french is a little rusty, but I didn't take nine years of french up to highschool for nothing! She's clearly asking a question. "Mon amour" is usually a term for someone close to you, I think a friend or lover, and "drole" is in reference to something funny, so my best guess of what she's saying is something along the lines of "do you find that funny?" Or "you think you're funny?".
I just have to say thank goodness for Google translate, because I know absolutely ZERO French haha
What a line to read
