âI'm sorry my love, for what Iâm about to doâŚas it will destroy us both.â Was the only thought that rushed through Twilightâs mind as she galloped full speed down Canterlot Castle corridors to her guest quarters. The night was cool and moist, with little droplets of starlight gently making their way into the night sky above, beside Lunaâs luminous grey moon. However, Twilight couldn't stop tonight to observe Lunaâs masterpiece as her heart ached with regret from her earlier decision that evening.
âTwilight wait!â Cadance called after her, sprinting hard to catch up with her sister-in-law. Their delicate hoofsteps playing a pitter-potter rhythm on the polished tiles as they moved swiftly along. âYou don't have to do this! You can't ruin your whole live over royal matters! The Bluebloodâs are just loud mouths.â
âI-I ha-have no choice.â She sobbed, running faster, trying to evade the sympathetic eyes that kept glancing her way from the passing castle folks.
âWhat!-Of Course you have a choice Twilight-â
âNo.â She shook her head panting as she came to a slow trot, her mane falling into her eyes from the breeze. âYou heard Duchess Cinch, if I don't marry Blueblood and intertwine our bloodlines, then my first born may be forced into an arranged marriage with one of their children instead.â
âThat won't happen.â Cadance said with concerned eyes, slowing her pace to match Twilightâs. âThere is no way on earth that any of us will allow your children to marry for any form of political nonsense.â
âExactly.â Twilight drew a shaky breath. âBut if a marriage doesn't take place then the Bluebloods might start plotting some other way to take power and I-â
âTwilight.â Cadance soothed, placing a hoof on her shoulder. âThe Bluebloods have always plotted for power. Honestly I don't know how they didn't get their cutie marks from that.â She giggled, earning a small giggle from Twilight as well.
âI don't know CadanceâŚâ She hung her head in sadness. âThis is my duty. Celestia and Luna are away in Prance for a whole month. I can't afford to look weak, I mustn't fail to do my duty.â
âYour duty is to your subjects, Twily.â Cadance draped a wing over her back. âBut you also have a duty to your heart.â
âWhat do you mean?â Twilight cocked her head, faking confusion, a familiar stallionâs face popping up in her thoughts.
âDon't act like you don't have a crush on Flash Sentry.â Cadance replied in a near motherly tone.
âHimâŚâ Her heart skipped a beat. âHe'll understand that my duties come first.â She lied. âBesides, we were living in a fantasy anyway...deep down we knew our love wouldn't last.â Her voice cracked at that last part.
âWhat are you talking about Twilight? Who would dare defy your love?â
âThe worldâŚâ She whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. âI'm tired CadanceâŚâ She whispered again before teleporting away.
âWha-Twilight!â

âIâm sorry FlashâŚâ A familiar purple alicorn whimpered at her desk in her bedchambers. Gathering a paper and quill to end her month long escapade. âOur love can never be. What will Celestia think? What will Equestria think?â With a heavy heart and red puffy eyes, she began to pour out her thoughts.
My Dearest Flash Sentry,
When you hold me in the streets, then you kiss me on the dance floor...
I wish that it could be like that,
Why canât it be like that?
Cause I'm yours...We keep behind closed doors,
Everytime I see you I die a little more,
Stolen moments that we steal as the curtains falls will never be enough...Itâs obvious youâre meant for me,
Every piece of you it just fits perfectly,
Every second, every thought Iâm in so deep,
But Iâll never show it on my face...But we know this, weâve got a love that is hopeless...
Why canât you hold me in the streets,
Why canât I kiss you on the dance floor,
I wish that it could be like that, why can't we could be like that cause I'm yours...
âWhen you're with him do you call his name?, like you do when you're with me. Does it feel the same?â Flash interrupted her letter, slowly walking into the dimly lit room.
âFlash I can't do this-â She collapsed on the table in tears, upon seeing his slowly approaching form.
âWould you leave if I was ready to settle down? Or would you play it safe and and stay?â He asked, ignoring her cries, still slowly walking towards her as if in a trance.
âFlash you know this, we've got a love that is hopeless!â Twilight shot back weeping, covering her eyes with her hooves.
âWhy can't I hold you in the streets? Why can't I kiss you on the dance floor.â Flash spoke again, kneeling down beside her broken form.
âI wish that it could be like that.â Twilight sniffled.
âWhy can't it be like that? Cause I'm yoursâŚâ He used a hoof to raise her chin, his eyes filling with tears.
âFlashâŚâ
âNobody knows! Iâm in love with you so much Twilight!â He exclaimed, biting his lips.
âI don't want to hide it so bad!â She screamed at back, jumping to her hooves.
âWhat about the love we've made?!â He retorted, with pleading eyes, stomping his hoof on the ground from frustration.
âIâm living for that dayâŚâ She whispered.
âSomedayâŚâ They whispered in unison staring in each other's eyes.
âCan I hold you in the streets or Can I kiss you on the dance floorâŚâ He said breathlessly, his face coming closer to hers.
âI wish that we could be like that, why can't we be like that? Iâm yours-Iâm yoursâŚâ Twilight closed her eyes to shut out the pain she was inflicting herself.
âOh! Why can't you hold me in the streets? Why can't you kiss me on the dance floorâŚ?â Flash eyes brimmed with tears.
âI wish that we could be like that! Why can't we be like that! Yes Iâm yoursâŚâ She broke down, collapsing into his hooves.
âTwilightâŚâ
âFlash, Why can't I say that I'm in love?!â She screamed in the embrace. âI wanna shout it from the rooftops! I wish that it could be like that! Why can't it be like thatâŚâ
âCause Iâm yoursâŚâ Flash sniffled, holding onto her for dear life.
âWhy can't we be like that?â Twilight raised her head to look up into his welcoming gaze. âWish we could be like...that.â
âWe can beâŚâ He smiled, wiping a tear from her cheek.
âIâm scared FlashâŚâ She snuggled up to him as if he were a rare blanket.
âDon't worry...Iâm here and I won't let Blueblood or his family lay hoof on you.â Flash pulled her in closer.
âFlash?â
âYes Twilight?â
âI love youâŚâ
âAnd I love you more than life itself.â He smiled.
âIâm glad you found me.â She whispered, before raising her head and swiftly locking lips with the unsuspecting stallion.
âI am tooâŚâ He chuckled, deepening their kiss.
âNow that's a happy ending.â Cadance smiled, from outside the window.

Aww, great story. Keep up the good work!

Thanks
Umm, I want to like this, but it kind of feels like you ripped the dialogue from the lyrics of a song, so the dialogue doesn't quite sound natural. Eh.

Ditto. Inspire does not equal copy and paste.
8292097
Yep.
Still, I'm pretty sure the Flashlight haters are already starting their bombing run, so I'm not going to give this a dislike. They'll have enough to deal with.
Again, though, props for writing Flashlight. This site needs more.

I'm a huge Flashlight fan too which is why I want to like this, but let's be honest. This story isn't written well.

The lyrics of the song gave me the impression that this was the convo between two persons, thus I wrote it in pony version. And fyi, this is a scene from another Flashlight story Im working on called Forbidden love. I just teased you viewer with this scene to get your reaction to see if I should finish the story or abandon it, now I know what to do.

Look, I'm not trying to make you feel bad. Your story does a lot right. For example, the emotions were well-captured. I just can't take the dialogue seriously. I've read one other Flashlight story with the same problem.
I say this need sequel!

That's one of the main problems with Flashlight summed up right there: it's very hard to find a good fic for them
I hate to say it, but most of the ones that do exist always seem to me as if they were written by preteens who have little grasp on what love or romance is. It's a shame, really. I haven't read any good ones in a while... (this is not me insulting the author HERE, this is a jab at OTHER stories)
Say, have you any recommendations for good Flashlight fics? Been dying to read some for a while. Not bluecatcinema, BTW, been there read that.
Also, yeah, this is poorly written, and it doesn't exactly earn a like. BUT I also won't give it a dislike, since, like I said, I'm sure the Flashlight haters will have more than enough to give already...
Here's an idea what to do next, princesses: Go to Blueblood and find out what he thinks.
He's been raised his entire life to believe he shouldn't look for love himself because what he wants doesn't matter, the family comes first. So what if he met a mare he liked, liked very much? He is a puppet dancing on strings to fulfil the ambitions of his ancestors.
Go to him and maybe find a way to break him out of that too.
I'm going to have to agree with the sentiment that the dialogue sounds very unnatural. Also, it definitely feels like this is part of a larger story.
