Now there's an idea! Perhaps Sunset is in a similar situation as to here, only instead, she doesn't trust Adagio, hmm? Given her experience with mind control, I would think Adagio would see it coming, but Sunset is a smart cookie ... when she's not getting boob-whammied.

Perish the thought, I never got that impression. I do like the idea of the tables being turned - I'm just not sure about the logistics of it. Seems unlikely that Sunset would be able to pull a fast over Adagio like that, unless we do some weird What If wherein the Contessa met Sunset first.

That’s how i would see it if it were to happen. The only thing i can't think of is the ending for it if you were to do this. Naturally it would ve awesome, but i can't figure out if Sunset would want to rule the school/town/whatever or just get the bad girls under control.

Actually, you mentioning the Shadowbolts makes me think. Suppose Sunset is trying to reform the Sirens, then asks Sci-Twi to remake her magic-draining device as a fail safe in case the Sirens betray her trust ... and one Siren-to-Sunset magic-draining accident later ...

My opinion is that it's all of the above.
I see that she makes the device for science. There's that reason and then she needs to test it, this is where the accident part happens. Once a Shadowbolt(s) go under, Twilight tries to think things rationally but her perverted side shows at that moment
