I'm Glad I Got This Far

Author's Note:

Inspired from and in fact influenced too where all the credit goes to!

Consider this in however you may, just know someone still loves you out there.

Upon her bed, Rainbow Dash worn her headphones before taking out a notebook and pen in her mouth. She was silent for the time being as she reached out to grab her MP3. When she obtained on the side of her bed, she then switch it to a new song, only to have suddenly have stop when she taken notice to realize that something was entirely different. She was going to work on an essay for her teacher, but when she noticed a picture of her father poking out from under her bed, she could only feel this pang of sadness coat her heart. Picking it up, she noticed it was cracked and carefully remove the photo before placing it upon the bed. Perfectly tossed, she got rid of the broken frame by launching it towards the garbage bin at the end of the room and gazed at the photo.

The teacher wanted an essay, a specific one in fact, even if it'd turn into a letter. So opening it to a blank page, she ready her pen and prepared to write what she had to get out of her way.

It has been years, perhaps more than I can remember and keep count of, since I last visited you near Coltan Avenue. Maybe it'd be better off to say it straight out and be as blunt, but damn it, dad, just know that I should have told you that I was glad. For everything you've done for me since I grew up with you. So I'm gonna be simple, but maybe even more creative because this is to show you how much I love you. So take this letter however you may, just know that your little rainbow's okay.

To My Pa

Dear Dad,

I know we had some differences in the past
And sometimes those moments we loved didn't last
As you sit in that empty dark room,
Trapped in all of that naked gloom,
Reminded me a whole lot about you
After what mom had done to us too.
And you didn't deserve it all,
I'm sure you've never saw this fall...
But who is to say I am not the fact here to blame
For honestly I was a mess and you were the same.
You worked hard; even put food on the table.
And even got this far, but I gave you a label
And it was unfair, 'cause you were my number one dad
And yet I treated you so bad.
Because the only thing you never wanted
Is to see your baby foal so sad.
So dad listen to me,
For I'll listen to you so you can see
That how much you mean the world to me here
And to lose you makes me want to disappear for
The things we've pulled apart
Would only rip out each other's heart;
So dad, know that I'm sorry
And kiss Lil' Marely
To sleep, for that dog must miss me...
If only things could have been than they shouldn't be.
You know what I mean?

Rainbow Dash had paused, feeling this overweighing sadness grow over her as her tears became apparent, dribbling down the sides of her cheeks. All she could do was continue writing upon the paper.

I didn't expect things to be hard
And I never imagine the world collapse upon
To force you to bear their scars,
And how the DFF wanted to take me away
You show them the wrath of a fatherly hero on that day.
And I did not cry when the cops tazed you down,
I cry when you shown how much I meant to you than some clown.
And I could understand it hurt so much
And you still demanded that they let me go even with little luck.
I cry for you dad, I did,
Young as I was and so naive to the cause of it as I've lived.
And when I could only hate you blindly for what you've been
I stopped after these many years to realize this painful sin.
You loved me and that I was the only thing you had left in this cruel world.
And I was your little girl
Who grew up with no leash to hold,
Because you already knew you were growing old.
And when Hearts-warming eve came around
And I was with my friends in town and I was shock in who I found;
It was you dad who was shopping to look for something to drink
Perhaps to poison another week on your depression of the brink.
And here I thought we set it straight and kept to our levels.
I was wrong because when you greeted us and left,
I felt this overwhelming sadness as if I was embracing death.
You flew away and I wanted to stretch out to you so I can let
You know how much of those cold things I thought of you as I regret
The painful moments I made hard for you on those times...
There are no excuses for that, not even rhymes.

Rainbow Dash took a moment to swallow her spit, wipe away her tears, and continue on as the sound of her own music rang in her ears.

So here's a letter to you for all things you've done
And I understand the love you achieved for only one.
I put aside all the differences we've had
And no matter how I feel they could've been
Just know that you're my number one dad.
And if I were to die by a stiff wing in the air; plummeting down,
Just know I would go down, crashing hard, but I won't be scare.
I'm not afraid of dying dad!
Just so know, I have friends here with me who will carry my name
And memories even if they become old.
And even a little filly who looks up to me
As if I was sister
She had in this cruel world.
And so I put my faith in her that she lives her own
Life and be better than me,
Because if I go down hard from sky
Just know I was never afraid to die.
Dad, I just wanted let you know
That I am thankful for you raising me even when mom had to go.
Thank you for being there for me
And smiling; just know I love you. You're the best that I can see,
For when the cheers of the crowds on the stages in the stadium go AH!
Just know I will only listen to your cheers, after, all...
This letter is to my pa....my precious papa.

I am so glad I got this far
And even through all the scars,
Each time I stare at the stars,
The fireflies bloom in my jars;
And I go to sleep,
On this cloud that weeps,
But I know my friends will carry me
Through the lands and cloudy seas,
In this rigid world,
Where you little girl
Is not afraid to die,
For each time she looks at the sky,
And even wonders why,
Because she knows your by her side.
And the legend she carries
Will last long for centuries
And if her name shall fade, then
At least she had a dream made, than
Have had a dream she'd have nothing, for
Without you she'd be nothing, on this cold floor.
To push her off this cloud
And cry happily out loud.
I love you and you know
That our history shall never let go.
I'm not afraid die,
Because I know you're by my side.
And that's best thing you can ever provide.
In this little passing life,
And if things don't go well for me
Just know that you've made me happy.
You're the best I've ever had...
You're number one dad!

Sincerely,
Your Little Rainbow.

Rainbow Dash finished, shutting her eyes and wiping more tears off her face and smiled gently. She was not done though for all she had left to do, was deliver this letter. By herself.

I really like the concept for this story, but it's held back by a few things.

First, this story would really benefit from an editor. There are some grammatical errors and awkward word choices spread throughout the story that disrupt the flow a bit.

Also, Rainbow Dash is in school? And has an MP3? These aren't necessarily bad, but if you have stuff like this in a fic, it's important to add an explanation for some of these things. Otherwise, the reader is left scratching their head.

Lastly, while I enjoyed the poetry aspect of this story, I have to question as to whether or not it's something Rainbow Dash would do. Even though the idea of Rainbow writing a poem is certainly interesting, it's important to write in a way that it fits the character. The problem is that, to me at least, it doesn't really feel like Dash. The words used in the poem just feel off for her.

Overall, while the idea for this story was a solid one, the execution could use some work.

5401361 Understanding where you're getting at, I happen to wish no change in this...it's perfect in my eyes, best leave it be with her and focus just on her and her father. Character needs nothing to show in this type of story, only focusing on one thing. The problem, the solution, and the conclusion. Though, I thank you for the comment, I just can't make her into character or it will distract the reader from the point made in here.

Dash is...perfect the way she is.:raritywink:

This is a good story. I love stories with a really dark plotline but I also like stories like this one. It shows hope, to readers. It shows that any bad situation isn't going to have a full stop at the end of it, it's going to have another word after that, it might be bad, it might get worse but at some point a good word is going to appear. Well done mate, you did good.

By the way, is that song you put up in the authors notes area the song she's listening to? If so that's pretty cool! We can listen to the song while reading!
