Years after the first attack, the changelings are starving. Cast out and cut off, Queen Chrysalis has no choice but to lead a desparate assault in the heart of Equestria before her people starve to death. But as the invasion begins, she discovers a young changeling already there.
Iris was raised by the princess. She has friends, family, a life, but when she is thrust into the middle of an imminent war, she must learn what it truly means to be a changeling and save the ponies of Canterlot from an enemy they thought long defeated.

Hum. Truth be told , I liked the previous version more . There is no doubt that the quality vastly improved , so kudos for that , but the premise and the cast of characters you had in the original one was more interesting in my opinion.

I wanted to stick with my old premise too, but I ruined it for myself in the planing. It feels like I already wrote the story and actually typing it out felt like a waste of time, you know? What's the point of writing fanfiction if you don't enjoy doing so?

I know this situation all too well. I usually plan my roleplay session so well that at the end I have no interest in actually playing what I had planned and just wing it.
I never get why ppl think that changeling tooks children with them at invasion, even if they did it they won't take them inside its to dangerous, making small camp outside of war zone is more realistic. But maybe you have some better explanation why there is child what should be kicked out by force field and is inside, practically center of town.

I really enjoyed the old version much more. It had an interesting focus of Shining and Cadance adopting somepony that may not be all she seems.
There was both cuteness and tension to it since the reader could only guess about Iris's true nature.
Now just the synopsis alone lays out everything. Haven't we all seen the "X Pony finds a changeling and nurses it" story countless times before. The adoption angle was a unique addition and added ambivalence to an otherwise overused fanfic plot that could've blossomed into interesting tale.

If you don't know already, you can see by reading farther down the comments why I stopped writing before. The main focus of anything I write right now is quality, and quality in writing can only be ensured as long as the writer is passionate. I lost the passion to write the old version. I might lose it for this one.
Anyway, my plan for future writing is writing when I feel like it, mainly short stories and occasionally new chapters to this or any other multi-chapters I may start. So, yeah, I wish I could have continued the original as well.
