Thousands of years following the story of Archmage, Twilight takes on a new student. One who doesn't know the first thing about advanced magic. One who needs to start from Square One.
“Great.” I groaned, hanging my head. “Three mares lives I’ve irrevocably changed.”
Add her and Basil in and that's five of six ponies following her like a magnet. Twilight even talks about how strong the friendship is in the few days she's had it.
A legal system that allows ponies to change the terms of and enforce an implied contract after the fact without the agreement of the other party? If only there was a Princess, who with her Princess lover, best Princess friend, and Princess sister-in-law, who could fix such an obviously unworkably unjust law.
Wow! In this case, not only does the apple fall far from the tree, it landed two states over! I assume that there will be an explanation for what happened with the Apple Family, that they would turn out in this manner.
And I get the feeling that Golden Nugget will have some serious explaining to do when Star gets home!
4610175 I knew there was a reason that I'm partial to Luna. Bring back the night!
4609976 Certainly, it's just that this problem is being pointed out by one of the beings that could most easily deal with it. It won't ruin my enjoyment of the story, but it does feel poorly justified. I mean, that law seems like it was created with the intention of extortion. Which I suppose it could've been. And I'd rather not read a story about the Apple Mining Company Lobby getting new laws passed. I'll just be sitting back down and waiting for more awesome magic and shipping.
4610263 thankfully enough we won't dwell on the Apple Family corruption. Eight hundred years is a long enough time for something to fester enough that the royalty just says 'meh' and lets it go on unabated.
We'll move quickly on to Trottingham without much dwelling on the cruel fate of Ponyville I assure you.
Yeah - I've got to say that that bit completely broke my suspension of belief. There's no way you can have a working society with laws like that lying around. Also, why can't Star just counter-charge Gold for a larger amount? Based on what we've seen of their relationship, Gold is probably ahead in terms of 'shots at goal'.
So.... Another chapter. I am pleased And also bloody excited!!! This chapter has opened up so much, hinted at so many things and frankly I'm shaking in my boots waiting for a new one. Please do not disappoint me!
The current generation has set up an apparatus to use Applejack's posthumous subterranean spinning to generate electricity for the mines, and for subsequent selling and profit.
"We wondered what that noise was for ages, and when we found her we thought it'd be a shame to waste the opportunity - after all, water wheels are rather inefficient."
4610342 The fate of the apple family makes me really sad, everything else I read they are practically all the manifestation of honesty itself. But here its all gone downhill
Loyal I am quite amazed at your version of the apple family in this era. I would not have expected it after seeing what has happened to some of the other Element's family lines. Bravo to you for pulling the rug out from under me! AJ is probably not gonna be happy tho lol
Should be "The Preservation Society and the Apple Family"
Also, Basil is almost the exact image of my dad, except for the whole being gay thing. Dad is ready with a dirty quip at any moment, perverted, and highly irreverent. (Qualities all truckers seem to possess) And I wouldn't want it any other way.
i wonder whats up with gold nugget and whats the whole thing applefamilie, when things turned to be bad for them and for what reason ... applejack was the element of honesty, not of backstabbing and shady deals
I just realized this. We've got Star for the Element of Magic, Lotus as Generosity, Breeze as Loyalty, and Basil as Laughter for sure. But I don't think Gold is going to end up a good character in the end. She is specifically not the Element of Honesty, as this chapter makes it quite clear that she has lied to most of the government. Applejack didn't lie and when she did, it was terrible. Gold lied with ease to many, including the princesses (which also means she holds them in somewhat disdain). Which means that she probably has greater motives that just being friendly with Star. I'm regarding her with very high suspicions now...
4612702 Gold could end up being taught a lesson about honesty, where she sees that the truth is always best. After that she may become Element of Honesty worthy.
I am oh so torn on this. On one hand, I am adoring Basil, and look forward to getting to know him better in the future chapters. On the other hand, I almost want to post pone that and find out what the hell happened with Ponyville and the Apple Family.
Another amazing chapter Loyal. And in regards to your most recent blog post, please, for the love of god, don't stop writing. You're a great author and it would suck to see you throw away these stories. And I would definitely consider buying some real books you write. Keep writing man! You're fantastic at it!
Fuck you, Basil. You're a prick. I live to make bad jokes and puns, but you do NOT joke about someone else's sex life or their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/whatever during your first meeting. If you know a fish is a bad catch, then say so, but be serious and sincere, don't crack jokes. Debbie might be the Maf's consort, but that doesn't mean you should go about being an asshole.
That aside, I'm somewhat saddened to hear that the Apple clan has left its honest roots and become a Family, if you're meaning it in the same way as I would when speaking of the mafia.
I don't see how Basil and Start are alike. They both have very sexual private lives it seems, but otherwise I haven't seen anything that makes him look like her at all. He's been crass and kinda dickish since he appeared on center stage. And that has been more than just a little upsetting.
I enjoy worldbuilding as much as the next guy but... wow Ponyville leveled to make way for a mining operation just out of left field. Ouch. And the Apple Family is more like an 1800s mining company now. The kind that "legally" enslaved thousands upon thousands of immigrants to America with contracts ensuring food and lodging... and 16 hour days of toil in dangerous coal/iron mines. Applejack is looking down on her family with the rage of a thousand burning Suns.
Weather team transfers are about as easy as shaking hooves

Okay ... I really want to know the story behind the Apple Family. How'd they go from the most respectable and most trust worthy of ponies to a mafioso that the Princesses are powerless to prevent from screwing over everyone?
Yeah... I'm sure we can trust you a whole bunch on that, Mrs. Alicorn. *glares*

Please don't let that victory go to your head, Star. Please don't
With information on the Apple Family of this time you could hook-up a turbine to Granny Smith and create free energy.
Not a bad chapter.

wat
4609312 Ever hear of "turning in one's grave"?
4609362
Aah. Your comment made it seem as if you though Granny Smith was still alive, which would of course be impossible.
And let's be honest, if all of Ponyville was levelled to make way for mining operations, she was probably exhumed.
Commence read.
More things unveiled.
Wow...I bet Applejack is turning in her grave.
Add her and Basil in and that's five of six ponies following her like a magnet. Twilight even talks about how strong the friendship is in the few days she's had it.

Five down. One to go.
I can see Applejack being really pissed in her grave... And I definitely can't wait to see the conversation between Star Caster and Golden Nugget.
That's not gonna lead to a fight...
A familiar setup emerges, yet the context is 1000% different. Love it!

Equestria is far from a perfect society, that much is certain.

4610930 Indeed. You wouldn't want a customer at your restaurant putting a folded up napkin under the leg of a wobbly table.
"Your meal is 20 bits."
"No, actually I fixed your table. You owe me 50 bits for that."
So.... Another chapter.

This reminds me of the Hull–Rust–Mahoning Open Pit Iron Mine. The entire town of Hibbing, Minnesota, was moved because the pit was advancing, following the iron deposit.

Meh, why not assume as much?

Silver Shill didn't become the Element of Honesty after his lesson. So I'd doubt it.
Basil is just uhm that ^.

Have the Apple family been taken lessons from MTG Orzhov?

4610342 Eventually the corruption will become a boring concept and they'll try something different. Maybe puppy farms.
I'll start but saying this:
Fuck you, Basil. You're a prick. I live to make bad jokes and puns, but you do NOT joke about someone else's sex life or their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/whatever during your first meeting. Apparently Gryphons ALSO love Basil
That was terrible. Absolutely, positively horrid

Wait wait wait...
Retroactively?
Does that mean you can just go to a bar, have a one night stand with someone and charge him in the morning? And that's legal?
How the fuck do such laws exist?

I'm surprised she didn't rise form the grave to knock the stuffing out of her decendants. Both her and Granny Smith.
