Well, that's absolutely terrible of her mom. Have to say when I started the story I felt my grammar nazi senses go off when you used the wrong version of "hear" twice, until a few more paragraphs in and I realized it was a "First person-perspective from a Third-person narrative." kind of story. Shoot, I'd kinda like to take a shot at doing something with this, but I'd have to change it to my own writing style. That style of narration works to read, but it wouldn't work for me to write. Maybe something will come to me in a few days. Of course, if it does I will credit you as the inspiration. I did that for kenshinryu, who inspired me to write an additional two chapters to a story of mine based on a comment he wrote for something he thought should have happened that stirred my creativity.
