Having been freed from limbo, Stygian has spent his days as a reclusive author publishing his auto-biography. But now he's decided the time has finally come for him to do what he should've done a long time ago, tell Somnambula that he loves her.

Somnambula, meanwhile, is still struggling with the death of Prince Hisan and the fact that she wasn't there to say goodbye to him. So when Stygian shows up in her village, she is simply glad to see a friendly face.

But even if Stygian confesses, does Somnambula love him back? And if so, is it possible for them to make a relationship work despite the obstacles and the hardships?

Stygian sought to improve his own magic, to help and protect others. But in doing so, he created the Pony of Shadows, and for a thousand years, he was trapped within his own madness. Now released, along with his friends, he must face up to his past mistakes. Fortunately, he will soon learn that he is not the only one to fall to darkness, and in doing so, discover the path to a mutual redemption.

After the element bearers managed to free the Pillars from limbo, all they had to do now was find Stygian, and all would be right. The problem is that they do not know where their former friend was hiding or if he was alive. Starswirl hadn’t seen his former friend since he banished the other Pillars, so with nothing to go on, the element bearers and the Pillars ventured into the far reaches of Equestria, hoping to help their friend.

It's been a while since Twilight and the gang returned from Middle Earth, and they've decided to teach its lore and history at their newly opened School of Friendship, and their students love it! One pony most intrested with Middle Earth is Sunset Shimmer, who has returned to Equestria for a long deserved break. The whole idea of new magic and grand quests fascinates her, and leaves her wishing that she could've been there. And after some unforeseen anomalies with the Dimensional Mirror, she gets her wish.

But something is wrong. Bilbo seems younger, and no one has ever heard of Equestria. It appears that she has not only traveled to Middle Earth, but went back in time as well! Now she must help 13 dwarves and a hobbit slay a dragon to get their home back, all the while more, try to find a way back to Equestria.

Stygian, for his part, is always thrilled to talk with fans of his work. But little does he suspect that Luna and him will share in some very personal feelings, feelings about the past and how it can shape one's present and future. As well as what it truly means to have once been "evil".

Unsettling tales tell of a gilded pastry box that holds more than mere sweets. Legends whisper that it is, instead, a gateway to unnameable vistas of culinary experience—and that it wishes to be opened by a pony of comparable desire. What will become of Equestria’s blood sugar when a pony of means and passion comes to possess it?

Well, most of them; while most of the Pillars have made peace with Stygian, for some reason Rockhoof opens each day by commanding Stygian to fight him!
