Other People are Real at Christmas · 7:07pm Dec 20th, 2023

Someone wrote, "Fiction teaches us that other people are real."

Earlier this year, I was visiting my mother, and while we were sitting and talking, I apologized for being late, and she said, "Oh, that's no trouble."

But I was looking her in the eyes when I said it, and her eyes said that it was, in fact, trouble.  I know my mother well enough that I can read a lot in her eyes.  What I can't read, I can mostly fill in from the context; I know what matters to her and how she thinks.

IN WHICH I LOOK FOR A SUBJECT
Today's music also comes courtesy of Japan. Just dropped a couple weeks ago. Enjoy!

Before you even ask, yes the women (all are 29) can actually sing; the autotune is a deliberate effect to make them sound like robots. Now...

Life During The Pandemic 1 · 3:15am Mar 30th, 2020

Hello everyone. I'm on day ... actually I don't know exactly how long my family's been cooped up but I think it's been about fifteen or sixteen days. I think, in order to distract ourselves and keep happy that we should talk about what we've been doing with our time. I encourage any and all to respond with an account of how you've kept busy.

I have had a very busy day. · 3:36am Apr 13th, 2019

So today was very stressful for me. Not necessarily negatively stressful, but nonetheless, I am roast toast rn.

It was my sister's birthday today. She turned thirteen. It was the first birthday she's had that I haven't been present for. So obviously, I had to call her. Except my roommate decided to have a lie-in this morning, so by the time he was out of the room and I could talk freely, my sister was already on the bus and unable to talk freely.

One of my absolute favourite Laura Brehm songs I listen to regularly. Standard insanity past the jump.

Chess Story Reading · 12:36pm Jul 27th, 2021

Hey, you know what makes me incredibly self conscious? Hearing someone else read my words. I'm all like 'no, you're reading that really well but I shouldn't have phrased that that way! Why did I use the word 'fight' in two sentences in a row!'

Nonetheless: this Reading of a Chess Story is very well produced, and the guy has a really nice voice.

Go have a listen plz.

The Curse of Creativity · 2:48am April 6th

I want to write a story.

My last story was uploaded in January. It was a gift exchange over QnS. I’ve started on many stories since then, I haven’t finished a single one besides the ones I’ve written for QnS. That’s all you’ll be getting in the foreseeable future, probably.

I want to write a story just like I want to create music, or write lyrics, or do any other thing that could be constituted as “art” in any way, shape, or form.

The Absurdity of Existence: Transformed Roles of Consciousness and Sexuality in Artaud’s "To Have Done with the Judgment of God" and Oshii’s "Ghost in the Shell" · 4:28pm March 12th

The absurd in the works of art can be expressed through multiple forms, including text, music, videos, and pictures among others. In order to examine how it is created in different types of media and compare the absurd as presented by two artists, two passages from Artaud’s To Have Done with the Judgment of God (pages 71-72) and Oshii’s Ghost in the Shell (47:49-49:54) were chosen. Artaud and Oshii examine the absurdity of existence, consciousness, and experience by using

Everything Little Thing She Does is of Her Own Free Will (or is it?) · 9:41pm Sep 25th, 2016

I spent this week on a residential course on Popular Science Writing, which has left me bubbling with enthusiasm for putting together my own book proposal. I cycled into town this morning to visit the science section of my local bookstore and get some reference material. While there, I also decided to stop off at my college just to see if I had any mail—only to find the entire street had been closed off and was swarming with security trying to hold back a dense crowd, holding their phones high

Reactionary (maybe alarmist?) thinking below. I say that because I'm trying to process some stuff that has been tossed into my sphere of thinking in the last week, and I have yet to find any counter sources that might anchor these views. Stream of consciousness about the economy, and society, and the future. I'm perfectly aware that this is just a starting point, and not the end point, of where I stand on the state of the world today. It's such a big thing to make any final calls on with any

Is this an Update? · 4:28am Apr 19th, 2021

It's midnight, let's write a frickin' blog post. (falls backwards in chair) :derpyderp2:

So...
I haven't been publishing. But I haven't given up! It just... takes me a while sometimes to get to a place in my life where I can get my thoughts together for this kind of creative work.
At least I have a lot more time to myself due to finally dropping my writer job.
Of course, I do still beat myself up about not being able to write like I used to.
