Ponies Aren't Perfect · 4:27am Aug 8th, 2014
I'm going to state another self-evident fact.
Ponies aren't perfect. Some of them behave well. Some behave badly. Some are good. Some are evil.

Philosophers of the late middle ages and early modern era sought what we call the macrocosm within the microcosm - a unity between universe and self.

I'm taking a metaphysics course at the moment. This is the branch of philosophy devoted to... Well, actually, one of the first conundra posed in the class is how to characterize metaphysics. So yeah. In any case, I just wanted you all to appreciate just what I'm studying/putting up with at the moment:
If you've been reading my blog posts for a long time, you may have noticed that I posted a lot of theory articles in 2014, but that stream ran gradually thinner and shallower, until now I post less than one a month, and I've left my biggest teasers (the principal component of art and the general evolutionary theory of
I did not sleep. I tried. I really did. But no dice. I posted some inspiring quotes on facebook, and I'm messing around online to pass the time. Usually, thanks to my medicine, I sleep from midnight until well into the afternoon. I guess my meds didn't work so great this time 'round.
Twilight + metaphysics + Socratic dialogue = win ?
Obviously it’s not exactly stated that Twilight is into things of this sort though it’s quite easy to imagine that her natural inquisitiveness will lead her into pondering questions about the nature of the world she is in. A lot of the more creative fanfics certainly do go in that direction.
Imagine a pony version of Plato or Socrates in the form of a certain purple princess!
Canon Pandering is a fascinatingly tricky idea. You'll see it pop up here and there. An episode will air, and then suddenly every story that featured Bonbon in it will add a chapter that retcons in how she was a secret agent working for Princess Celestia. This happened with Twilicorn a lot, with authors going so far as to edit past chapters, and artists deleting and redrawing their own illustrations, to ensure that their pony was properly princessified. Seeing this invaribly irritates me, which
I'm a writer, so the only way this post can begin is with a story.
Rene Haycartes had the utter temerity to say that he knew he existed because he thought about stuff:
To which Hayvid Hume was like, "Oh yeah? Don't bet on it, lol":
And everyone argued about it forever after (I take Hume's side, personally).
So this is actually a repost. I originally wrote this small piece on the Atheist Bronies V2.2 group, and it was for several reasons. I took a great interest in understanding belief systems and why people hold onto their beliefs, even if said beliefs are false (although it depends on what you mean by "false"). I had these
Who is the hero and who is the villain?
It’s a question as old as time itself. We ask it to ourselves with every book or show or movie we read or watch. Sometimes you get a clear answer. In MLP, it’s always obvious that Tirek or Chrysalis, or Sombra is the villain. It’s spelled in black and white for us much of the time.
But real life isn’t black and white. Real life is a gray area.
A few years ago I carved myself the shape of a promise.
The promise was to include an amount of poni in my Master's Thesis. Anyponi, someponi, everyponi – just not no poni.
Recently I finished my Thesis in philosophy of language. It's about the structural theory of meaning. And it definitely has some poni in it. I have a fragment below to show for it (I'll post the link to the official, published version whe
Life is but a stone thrown into a pond,
it can fly high and soar far with force behind it,
but no matter how high that little rock fly's,
it does not create ripples until the end of its flight,
though yes some stones skip and glide across the calm water line,
eventually even the smoothest stone sinks,
given enough time.
There was a subject I didn't get to broach in O' Selfless Child due to how the story was written, but it's something that's been on my mind for a while. I can't stop thinking about it, like a song stuck in your head in a constant loop. It's a question that's been with me throughout my life for everything that I do.
And that's the weight of generosity. The weight of our actions, and how we measure morality.
