The Witcher 3 and moral ambiguity · 4:01am Mar 23rd, 2017

I've been playing The Witcher 3 a lot lately. It's a good game, and a lot of the praises I've heard are accurate. It's got a big, living world with a good story. But one of the more frequent discussion points is the game's supposed moral ambiguity. In this game, there are supposed to be no right answers, no black and white. Only shades of gray.

It's a shame, then, that actual ambiguity pops up a lot less than it ought and the "gray" is closer to black.

Caveman Morality · 3:11pm Aug 16th, 2020

Could you list me some examples of what you think as a cavemen morality may have been like? Just for some writing exercises. Useful for a story for the ponies to encounter a savage tribe or something.

Note: It seems to be proven cavemen were not completely ruthless savages either. Even in the stone age, it seems we cared for the weak.

So Apparently · 10:44pm May 14th

Apparently, wishing death on an entire people is fine, as long as you're a progressive. Bonus if you're using the same actual words that the Nazis are, but clarifying that you're not a Nazi apparently makes that line okay. So let's review: A picture of a Swastika is hate speech, but a blog entitled Death to Israel isn't. Someone trying to explain that the picture of a Swastika doesn't inherently mean support for genocide

Ponies Aren't Perfect · 4:27am Aug 8th, 2014

I'm going to state another self-evident fact.

Ponies aren't perfect. Some of them behave well. Some behave badly. Some are good. Some are evil.

Being a Better Writer: Author Morals and Character Morals · 8:03pm May 10th, 2016

Welcome back, everyone! I'm sure many of you wondered where I was yesterday, since BaBW is primarily a Monday -specific post. Rest assured, all is well. I just had a shift at my other job yesterday that was all day. Didn't seem worth posting once more that I wasn't going to be able to post due to that since I'd already given enough warning that such was going to happen, so I figured most would be okay enough if I left things for today.

My mentally ill mother is passing away as I type these few words...

I don't know how to handle this numb anxiety let alone come to terms with a conflicted history dealing with twenty years of psychological turmoil coming to bitter conclusion. 😟

Review of Applejack's Day Off · 8:50pm May 28th, 2016

So this episode was..... decent. I enjoyed the moral and the way in was integrated in the story, but outside of that this episode didn't do that much. It wasn't bad by any means, but it did feel kind of dull, especially compared to last week's hilarious episode and compared to the last episode written by Micheal P. Fox & Will Fox, The Gift of Maud Pie. (I'm assuming these writers are related, so in the rest of the review I'll refer to them as the Fox brothers).

A brief discussion of incest in my stories. · 6:59am Jan 18th, 2017

I feel it is important to make a note on my portrayal of incestuous relationships. I will only ever write about sister-sister or perhaps brother-brother incest. Nothing more. I hold a great dislike for brother-sister pairings, and father-daughter or mother-son parings are equally distasteful in my eyes. My reasons for this may at first not make sense but my attitudes and justifications for this seeming contradiction are based on one simple and all-important consideration. Homosexual pairings,

Writing in Aesops (mind blowing moral lessons) into your story: Part 1: What not to Do · 4:45am Jul 17th, 2017

So, you want to make your story have a bit more oomph. You don't want to simply make it about characters resolving a conflict in a setting of your choice. Instead, you want to make it leave an impression on the viewers, teach the reader a mind-blowing lesson that will stick with them for their entire life.

So, right now, I think I may be able to guess what many of you are thinking, which is, upon looking at the title: Hey, didn’t we just read this like a week or two ago? To which I say, yes, almost.

For those of you who weren’t yet thinking, but now have looked up and noticed the similarities in the title, yes, it’s almost the same topic. In fact, there’s only a single word of difference.

28 Pranks Later · 5:36pm Aug 28th, 2016

Only just got round to watching this one. That's time I could have spent jetwashing flagstones or somesuch. Ah well. I have to ask why they felt it necessary to write this story. Have they felt guilty about condoning prankery ever since Griffon the Brush-Off graced our screens? I doubt even Hasbro could be that apologetic.

The Problem With Being ‘Known’ · 10:54pm November 22nd

If anyone is familiar with music, they should know the phenomenon of the notorious ‘27 Club’. For those that don’t, The 27 Club is comprised of a collection of musical artists who died at 27. While the idea may revolve around selective observation, the pattern remains that there’s a large collection of musicians who died specifically at the age of 27.

Are you a selfish person? · 9:46pm Apr 16th, 2019

Answer just one simple question to see if you're a selfish person.

Here is the context:

You die.

Your soul finds itself in Purgatory. There is a long line to Heaven. Billions of souls are waiting to enter. The reason why the line is so long is that there's a catch. Only one person can enter Heaven after one person enters Hell.
