T

June 28, 1914.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife are struck down by the bullets of serbs anarchists. But they're not the only victims of the Black Hand : her Highness Celestia, Princess of Equestria is also killed in the attack.

Equestria wants revenge for the death of its leader, and stands ready to ally itself with the Central Powers in the first World War of the XX° century : the Great War.

Original story by me.

I'm giving this a thumbs up for originality, but you really should explain what the hell Celestia was doing with Franz Ferdinand. He wasn't the most powerful man in the world, he just had a lot of tough allies.

She was doing her job as ruler of Equestria : tried to tie up diplomatic links with others nations, here, the Austro-Hungarian Empire. And a trip in Sarajevo, with the heir of the throne could have been very benefic for equestrian/austro-hungarian relationship.

Eventually, the triple assassination will make Equestria and the Central Powers more close than ever.

Not bad, not bad at all. I thought the prologue was a bit short, but I thought the first chapter was fleshed out pretty well. I could try to scrutinize the historical bits, but honestly, at first glance everything seems alright. I like the concept and so far I like the execution (First-person perspective is typically hard to pull off, but you're doing alright so far). I hope to read more!

This one seems interesting enough, I think I'll continue reading this. :applejackunsure:

So Equestria was just cut off from the rest of Earth? Interesting. That explains a lot.

Cool story so far, I’m keen to see where it’s going. If Equestria is physically part of the Earth though, where is it? Strategically (and diplomatically), it makes a lot of difference.

Wow, Twilight really dislikes Luna. Either something really bad happened between the two of them, or she must blame Luna somehow for Celestia’s death.
The mentions of ‘Empress’ Luna do seem ominous. I do hope she doesn’t go fully evil though... shades of grey are always more interesting.

I will say that thre were some portions that didn't sound like Rainbow Dash. Too formal.

I'm now very curious as to what's caused Luna to go mad with power. That's the only possible explanation. She's never really hated her sister, and despite being the large ham she can be, she doesn't seem to make attempts at getting in the public eye.

Is this still being updated?

Actually, my translator completely disappeared. So, i'm looking for a new one, who can retake the story.

.....oh.....my :fluttershyouch:

Well lookie here
It seems the ponies are building a bomb
.......Manehatten Project here we come :pinkiehappy:

I'll be honest, the biggest thing I'm waiting for is Rainbow Dash joining JG1. I don't care which Jasta she ends up in, I just want to see her interacting with Richthofen, Voss, and the rest of the Flying Circus.

Did Luna greatly underestimate the numbers of people that would be killed by a magic bomb or did she mean hundreds of thousands.

This is really good. Never thought ponies could mix with WW1 this well. :rainbowhuh: Please, please! continue.:pinkiehappy:

I don't know what you're plans are for Rainbow Dash, but depending on whether or not ponies are mixed into existing Central powers units, I have a great idea for her.
I really like this story, by the way. WWI doesn't get the attention it deserves.

... :rainbowderp: wow, I am amazed. If this this is what the German language looks like in English then my math teacher in high school was right, German sounds flowing and smooth.

An interesting concept for sure, the first World War truly does not get enough attention (though that may be due to its destructive and bland nature). I know this story is being translated from German, but I did find one spelling mistake:

the people rushed to their aid and sized the gunman.

Change "sized" to "seized" I do not think the crowd wants to take the measurements of the man, but to arrest/apprehend the shooter. Otherwise, the prologue read poetically especially that last paragraph, very poetic.

So Equestria will be entering the war upon the side of the Central Powers, this shall be a very interesting story then. Will Equestria be strong enough to even the odds and affect decisions throughout the war or will the history we know of today continue to march on even with Equestria allying itself with the Central Forces?

List of Questions I have running through my mind:
1. How long have Equestria had contact to the rest of the world?
2. Weapon technology / tactics / size of army of Equestria?
3. Is there a language barrier between Equestria and the multitude of human countries?
4. Will equine be treated differently from humans?
5. What are Equestrian views upon standard horses of humanity?
6. Dimensions of Equestrian populace (like their size compared to humans)? Since Celestria was walking and talking while Franz Ferdinand was sitting in the car, she must have been about 5-5.5 (1.52-1.68 meters) feet at most. Though there have been discussions about Celestria's dimensions for some time, here is a link to one such discussion: null
7. Has weapon technology begun to be adapted from early 20th century human society to Equestria? (Like guns ... similar to this or this and this one ) Yeah that last one basically sums up what I would think human guns would need to do to adapt to equine physiology.
8. Will the United States enter the war in 1917?

Edit: Anyone know why this story obtained 14 thumbs down?

I'll continue Reading & Reviewing this story on the weekend so probably some of my questions here may be answered during the next 4 chapters.

Best of luck, stay healthy, and update soon!

Poor Twilight. And poor Applejack.

I'm not an "Evil Luna" booster, but the death of Celestia followed by Luna's ascension to "empress" sounds a bit...fishy.

Let's hope there will be a day when they can all be happy again.

Twilight is reading Gobineau???

This won't end well!

GO BLUEBLOOD!!

I still hope America wins.

5485395 not really if it wasn't for the American funding, supplies, money, and reinforcements arriving when they did the eastern German army would have showed up and killed all the defending Brits and French because they would have out numbered them.

You did your research my friend! Baron von Richthofen was beginning to gain a reputation in 1916, so I applaud you for that good historical bit.

Why is the story translated from German better at English than English stories?

WOW, this hasn't been updated in a WHILE.

I wonder why... :fluttercry:

*insert Pony Indy Niedell joke here*
also props for originality in having equestria join the Central Powers

Given Equestria has magic, why do they not just wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey their way out to either heal everyone wounded, or do time travel as if it never happened? Well dear reader, plot convenience. But who knows... This might be considered in the story at some point. Other than that, interesting story. It is now just a matter whether it is alternate history or not.

P.S. Any word on the author still doing this story?

When he declared that the future belongs to the species best capable of adapting itself to change, mister Charles Darwin was sadly mistaken. The future belongs to the ponies! And to the German Reich, if it is wise enough to tie its fate to that of the Principality of Equestria.

Introductory statement made by the German biologist Richard Semon, during his presentation “Equestria, land of the intelligent beasts”, given on May 3rd 1914 at the Berlin castle, before emperor Wilhelm II and his counselors.

Why is the story referencing the German Reich when the setting is WWI btw? The proper term is Imperial Germany right? :derpyderp2:

[...] I don’t like having blood on my hooves. Maybe that doesn’t fit the type of an Equestrian Air Force pegasus but that’s just the way I am. I like flying, and I like winning.

Not killing. That I left to the infantry.

:rainbowkiss: If reiterated, it could have been a badass one-liner! Either way, the original lines gave Mystic goose bumps! :pinkiegasp: That, and the closing remarks. Wars always makes you yearn for what sanity was lost in those times... Mystic salutes you for a picturesque outlook and research on the events :coolphoto: Photo Finish's heritage is proud!!! (In context, Photo Finish is supposedly depicted to be German.)

Long before all of this, back when Spike and Twilight had just moved into Ponyville, the young unicorn had told a riddle to her number one apprentice, or rather, a philosophical question: Was it better to be a fool, or to be wise?

It tis both a gift and a curse to be bestowed with a collection of knowledge. So much so is how to act upon this knowledge... One of these categories is war :applecry:

[...] “I just don’t understand why Celestia only broke the Equestria isolation spell when she did.”

A mystery worth noting :twistnerd:

So you think it was some sort of inside job planned by Luna to assassinate the archduke and Celestia? If so, then it is unlikely since one, Celestia just opened the isolation barrier thingy-majiggy. Two, humans would be cautious at first about interacting which leads to the last point; Slavs only wanted independence. Why would they pull other nations in their affairs who would side against them? Just makes it harder for them as it means they would have to compensate to Austro-Hungaria and Equestria. Luna's ascension is natural, but her mismanagement of Equestria has lead to revolts and somewhat, but not fully, gone mad with power as she does not have time to bother with dissatisfied ponies when finishing the war is still on her agenda. It actually reflect other countries especially Germany during those times. But instead of dissatisfaction with the government, their dissatisfaction comes from the war. Anyways, just a thought. Your idea though could be interesting if the author considers it :pinkiecrazy:

Not mad with power, or at least not yet, just a mismanagement of the kingdom. At least it is Mystic's theory :twilightsheepish: ;P

That one spelling mistake made me imagine an angry mob of Serbs with rulers and tape measures
:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

Grateful how this explores a lot of perspectives so far . Even if the author has not updated this for a long time , could really see its potential . Next thing you know, someone or somepony begins suggesting to use gas to break the stalemate. Speaking of which, curious if Flim and Flam helped developed the weapon :pinkiegasp:?

"WAR! WHO?! YEAH! WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!" :derpytongue2: Just imagining if this was a musical or something. Other than that, why did Mystic even think about that? Might as well ask, would anypony here be interested if WW1 was depicted in a musical :trollestia:? Out of Mystic's curiosity only. Depicting is already grim, but then mixed in with the vibrant musical, will that actually work? :pinkiegasp:

3 AM thoughts aside, praise again from the last chapter on the lore build as it mentions or integrates some aspects of history. Other than that, it is an overall decent experience . One concern is how it may go from one perspective to another which is great and all, but might later on be annoying :unsuresweetie: so changing perspective at the right moments to point out something is the way. And Twilight at war when she wants nothing to do with it, curious how will the writer naturally convince Twilight :trixieshiftright:. Anyways, just love writers who have their own interpretation or who can blend their scenario with the past. If the writer continued this, the big question is will history be changed with Equestria on the Central Powers side :rainbowhuh:? Anypony here know a similar story?

This is the second Reich. And Reich means Empire.
