From all the fanfics i've read I don't think anyone grasps just how large the Ursa Major probably is considering that the Ursa Minor(If I remember right) was almost as tall as the tree's in The Everfree Forest and the Major can almost hold the Minor in one hand(Or at least one arm if I remember right), and almost every story I read portrays the Major to be about as big as the Minor should be, then again if they actually had it be as big as it should be then It could probably step on Ponyville and not even notice so I can kinda understand why they'd do that.
