I think I already know Sombra's game, (aside from being yet another piece of his own game of thrones) mess with Lightning you mess with Fluttershy, mess with Fluttershy in this manner she'll become wrathful and her element of Kindness may prove less effective if at all, this in turn compromises the use of the Elements of Harmony as a whole, jeopardizing the defense of Equestria and the Crystal Empire.

Also, I like that Twilight didn't want to wake Spike up from his nap in the library. Very thoughtful and caring from her.

No, I'm just a student of History and Political Science, a disciple of Sun Tzu, a fan of George RR Martin, and a follower of The Order of the Stick. In short I am well versed in "The Game of Thrones", the eternal struggle for that shadow on the wall, power. While Mr. Holmes was skilled in deducting clues for personal motivations and smaller scheming, his reasoning skills were not directed at grand imperial schemes, or the making and breaking of nation states.
Due to my studies and George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series I know how politicking and conquest work. Further I have developed the ability to notice trends and patterns and thinking on the grand strategic level. (Though my short term tactical level decisions could probably be better). Further thanks to The Order of the Stick I can generally spot common literary tropes before their applied, which while not granting me 100 percent accuracy in predictions does increase the probability they are accurate.
However don't count me as correct yet. The story has yet to fully develop.
Sombra i'm calling it now.

Oh and Sombra you may want to research guerilla warfare and understand the futility of your plans before you execute your maniacal scheme. Raw power alone does not hold together Empires, only by winning over the hearts and minds of the people (Mind Control does not count) can an empire be truly sustained.

3437249 Actualy the ending line was inspired by Freddy as well as the idea of invading dreams and the title of the story itself. Robert Englund is one of my favorite horror movie actors. I'm also glad that you like the idea of Twilight not waking spike. I wanted to make one sweet moment in the chapter. My next chapter will be a little dark but hopefully much more of a heartwarming chapter.

3439812 indeed, I think Robert Englund is a legend of the horror franchise, and I don't care about the new actor who played Freddy in the 2009 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, because in my opinion no one can play Freddy like Robert could.
Also, I loved the Spike moment, because it does show that Twilight does care about him.

and indeed that moment does show that Twilight cares. Personally I think Twilight cares for Spike more than anything in the world, I just wish the show would show that a little more.

I wonder what King Sombra is up to. Is he planning to weaken Lightning mentally so he can possess him, or is he planning to enshroud all the foals of Ponyville in this never-ending nightmare? Got I hope it is neither, because it would mean not having a great twist. But so far so good.
If anyone could help with Lightning's nightmares, Princess Luna can.
I just hope she and every pony else can get down to the bottom of it before it's too late. 
I wonder why Sombra is after equestrian now. I guess it would make sense if the crystal heart is too powerful for him to ever have a hope of taking over there, but it's a bit of a turn around for him to giving up on the empire. Other than that and one other thing this is making a good bit of sense. He grows strong from fear (the fear of a child, and Lightning no less), and this could probably be how he started his takeover of the empire. Only two things at this point, 1: why is he after the country ruled by the same ponies who have already shown their superior strength, and 2: why just specifically Lightning? Surely there are other easily scared ponies in equestrian? (especially ones not as close to Luna and Celestia)
