Must Be Everything

Apple Bloom blinked. She was ready to present her poem. But she wasn't ready for her dad to hear it. But he needed too. Because he was up there, up above her. And he was listening, ready for Apple Bloom to show her love. And represent his.

This here poem's dedicated to my father, up above. But maybe y'all will feel a connection to y'all's Pops, too. So, uh, here:

To be you must be amazin',
Watching your children grow
And bloom.
They grow stronger
And older
And more responsible
Than they had been when you were here.
But it's not because of your absence.
No.
It's because of your previous presence.
You're still here,
Even if you're really there,
Up above.

To be you must be amazin',
Just lettin' all your colors shine,
Lettin' your love shine,
Just lettin' yourself shine.
Shine like rainbows and auroras.
Up above, like you.
Wouldn't it just be amazin'
Just to be you
Must be everythin'.

Because you show your colors of the rainbow.
And you let 'em shine,
Let 'em show.
And you represent the Rainbow.
And you shine like Rainbows.

It must be everythin',
To be a symbol of anger.
To show that you are angry at the world
For takin' your life
Your love
Your home
Your family
And givin' you a new one
Up above.

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of love.
You have love for your family that
Will never end
Will always show
Will be remembered forever
And you have your new family's love
Up above.

Because you show your love, your anger.
And you let it shine,
Let it show.
And you represent Red.

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of warmth.
And showing that you will always
Provide warmth for your family
Welcome us with warm hooves
And feel the comfort of warmth
In your love
For me
For us.
And the warmth of the place you are in
Up above.

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of pride.
That shows that you will always
Be proud of who you are
Be proud of your family
And be proud for other ponies
Who deserve it.
It must be everythin',
That pride that you show
Up above.

Because you show your warmth, your pride.
And you let it shine,

And you represent Orange.

To be a symbol of joy.
Because we will never forget how you
Always cheered us up
Never showed your unhappiness
And focused on
The joy that made Equestria
Joyful
And great.
But the joy must be great where you are now,
Up above.

To be a symbol of hope.
Do you know how many times
You gave us hope
Taught us about hope
Showed us that hope was there
And gave that land around you
A little hope?
It must be a hopeful place where you are,
Up above.

Because you show your joy, your hope
And you let it shine,

And you represent Yellow.

To be a symbol of renewal.
But it's fittin', because you
Always loved us no matter the hate
Always gave us a second chance
Appreciated the change for the better
And got a new start
Up above.

To be a symbol of envy.
Do you envy
Us down here?
Because I envy you,
Whether you believe it or not.
It must be great to be you,
Up above.

Because you show your renewal, your envy.
And you let it shine,
Let it show.
And you represent Green.

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of sadness.
I believe you are sad that
You are taken away from your family
You are no longer here
And that you are there.
Are you disappointed to be there?
Are you unhappy that you're now living
Up above?

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of peace.
You always were like that, you were always
Tryin' to find the peaceful solution
Tellin' your children to stop fightin'
Tellin' everypony to stop fightin'
And maybe that's good.
Maybe you're still like that
Up above.

Because you show your sadness, your peace.
And you let it shine,
Let it show.
And you represent Blue.

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of fantasy.
You know, you had many things that were like that. Like
The way you dreamed
The way you gave your children that imaginitive side
The way you gave a fun life to the world
And where you are now,
Not in the real world we know,
Up above.

It must be everythin'
To be a symbol of rarity.
To show you are mysterious and rare because
You were rare too.
Like the time you
Taught us we were rare
Showed us that every gem was unique
Told your children that they were all unique
And how rare you must be now
In a place like the one you live,
All the way up there,
Up above.

Because you show your fantasy, your rarity.
And you let it shine,
Let it show.
And you represent Purple.

And I can sense your colors, and your spirit.
And you have to let it shine,
Let it show.
Because I need you with me.

It's not that easy to hide your colors.
But that's good.
Because you represent the Rainbow.
You are
Red and
Orange,
Yellow and
Green,
Blue and,
Purple.
And you can't let it hide, ever.
I need to know you are there.
Don't hide from me.

Because you've got to let it shine,
And you've got to let it show.
Because no matter where you are,
You're still here.
With me.
And him, and her.
And all of us.

And you represent the Rainbow.

And you represent us.

Apple Bloom finished.

That was quite a lovely read, I like how different things were represented by the colors of the rainbow, and eventually tied into fatherhood.

Wow.

I don't think I've ever read a story that had my focus be that intense. Nearly 10 years ago, I also lost my father. And I had written poems, stories, and short adventures with him, because it helped me feel close. It's why I like writing, but it's why I love reading the works of others even more.

This poem, this story, is written almost exactly like my first poem about him. I compared him to rainbow, the calm after the storm. I used colors like you did, and filled it with every passion I could. Someday, maybe I'll share it in a way like this.

Thank you. It felt very good reading this, and even though I'm sitting here crying, it makes me happy that there is a story out there I could relate to so much. Excellent work.
