Madrigal Baroque

I'm late to the party. Hope you saved some cupcakes.

T

Everyone who walks into a Conversion Bureau clinic has different reasons for wanting to go pony. Some want a new life. Some want to escape the dying Earth.

Ana just wants to dance. An ability, a calling, that was forever taken away from her.

Bitter, in pain, and alone, she wants no one's help. No compassion. No friendship. No love.

Is she ever going to the wrong place.

Conversion can heal her battered body. Can it mend her shattered heart?

Some comments on the opening chapter.

This hits me especially since I broke my wrist. Because of the nature of the break, such injuries never completely are the same; my wrist is subtly wrong. 10 degrees of angle displacement is not crippling, especially since I have always been hypermobile, but it bends wrong now, like the curve of a fork, and I will never move that hand as liquidly as I once did. That hand... won't dance, so to speak, ever again. And I was overly proud of what motions I could do with it, so Ana's issues speak to me.

I have only one (slight) issue - in this genre, Pastern and everyone in the Bureau knows the world is ending. Everybody on earth is going to straight-up die in eight years if they don't go pony. I have to assume the doc's issues with fairness must be outweighing her annihilation salience a bit there, with the talk of fixing Ana's legs medically. I mean, she could only hope to use such repaired legs for less than a decade before she had to trade them in no matter what.

I like Lilac, and I can't help but wonder what the real story of that wheelchair is. I'm thinking Lilac, but I guess we shall see.

Editing errors I found:

"No!" The pony–Lilac–wincwd at the sharp denial

Sounds like a PC file, a DLL perhaps.

Ana wanted to tell her to fuck off, but she had a feeling it wouldn't deter the pony from her helpful aspirations. Either she'd help Ana or she'd go fetch someone who could. She wouldn't–couldn't–just leave someone sprawled helpless on the cold floorp.

I suspect cold floorp is what remains after a night of 'getting Schwifty'. Ewww....

I think maybe the copy of Ros in my head was so incensed by not only the brutal attack on Ana but the apparently deliberate mishandling of her medical treatment that she wanted to get it fixed so that Ana could choose to go pony for the right reasons, not because she had no other choice.

I could have been wrong, of course

To the author - hiya! i noticed your story being featured on the site then started reading the 1st three chapters on Wednesday (all on the fourteenth) but stopped reading for i had other window/tabs open.
then re-read chapter three again to refamiliarize myself with this fic and finished it on the 20th within this week.

it's so compelling & complex tale:heart:
not sure if i'll read the main story though, sorry about that.

p.s: btw i'm going to leave you a message on your main page, so watch out for it😉

Thank you for reading my story. I did my best to make each of these tales something you could read without having to plow through the others. Some of the scenes are retold from the central character's point of view, but it's fine if you don't want to read them all. Thank you!

no problem.

yeah can't get into that type of story-telling/narrative cause i'll get confused very easily & forget.
the only way i could read a fic is if a character is talking to/bout another person through flashbacks which is what i've done in one of my stories.

p.s: this is a question for u - are you a fan of the artist Kate bush?

I have been a huge fan of Kate Bush for most of my life. Yes, the story title and the chapter titles are all taken from one of her songs. I used another of her songs as I spiration for another story, The Jig Of Life.

Oh Cool:pinkiesmile:👍 i kinda knew of wuthering heights but through a cover by Hayley Westenra & the songs of tori amos podcast
because people had compared tori's voice to Kate...ironically😏
www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZsF1nmnUC8 (the director's cut album from 2011. i personally like this one because you can hear the ballerina's true intentions!) have you the short film based upon that album The Red Shoes?
i'm saving this version for a future long over due unpublished fic:raritywink:

p.s: hey. thought you should know that i left ya a message on your main 'user' page pls read it
