Some seven hundred years ago, the Kingdom of Equestria and the Griffon Empire collided in a bloody, yet short and devastating war. The young Prince Arbermal, the last Prince of the Empire and heir to the throne of the Griffon Empire, must sign a peace treaty with his Empire’s greatest foe. In doing so he will decide the fate of his people, his empire and forever change the course of history. The foe he faces now is not one of steel armour and blade, but of paper and quill. And the soft, convincing voice of the Princess of the Sun.

What is your explanation for why Celestia keeps losing over and over and makes one stupid decision after another in this universe if she can actually do all of this? How did she get so soft, so weak, so sloppy, so stupid, so incompetent?

For the next hour, Celestia explained the terms of the treaty, every clause and every article in it and what they meant to the young Prince. The Griffon Empire would lose territory, a lot of territory. The Empire’s boarders would be shrunk to the mountain range around the capital, along with some farmland at the bases of the mountains so they would not starve. Any Griffon territory beyond these new boarders and any Griffon living there would suddenly find themselves citizens of Equestria. The army, the once so proud and mighty griffon army, would be shrunk and reduced to a mere few thousand soldiers. The Empire would pay reparations, Celestia told him the amount owed each year would either increase or decrease depending on the Empire’s economic state.

Demilitarize, war reparations and lose a LOT of territory

he could hear his guards grumble about the terms of the treaty. They called it shameful, disgraceful and urged him not to sign. Yet… Celestia’s voice and words drew him in.

so they basically get the post WW1 German treatment
and an Empire with a ruler that too young he can't even read, it will be a matter of time before the Empire gets Couped and becomes more revanchist and vengeful like Nazi Germany

Well…this is an AU. And I like the idea of Celestia being a literal god on the mortal world so…

Pretty much, although not even Germany’s army was shrunk down that small. And it’s not that he can’t read per se, it’s just he’s that young he cannot understand what the words mean if that makes sense. Also, I was thinking that Celestia might like to keep young Arbermal on the throne, someone she can manipulate guide to be a decent ruler and an ally.

However, Celestia also spoke of food and medical aid for his people. She spoke of peace and trade between the two kingdoms, prosperity yet to come in a new era of peace

So basically, this is how Griffonstone became the heap of ruins we saw in canon.

Poor kid, he never stood a chance.
