That was a good story.

Certainly an interesting reveal at the end! Though... a bit grim. :pinkiecrazy:

Thanks for comment, even more so because it made me realize I didn't properly content tag this story, which is totally on me.

I hope it didn't cause any unwanted (more than was intended, at least) discomfort.

a nice passing of the torch to the next generation of characters, too, with a grown Spike and Luster Dawn taking the main stage, and Petunia Paleo and Flurry Heart in their adulthood roles. and lots of intriguing setup here, with the talk of precursor civilizations of bald apes and inscrutable ancient artifacts! let's see how these mysteries pay off

Moondancer's passing really cements the passage of time here, and i do like this Emerald Streak character. a guardsmare with passionate intellectual interests, taking assignments to get closer to the Princess's student is a great setup, and like Spike, i am personally a sucker for these types of situations.

the backstory with the Deer is very interesting! definitely have a soft spot for the secret history of Equestria being rather darker than the sunny, utopic present, and a genocide would certainly do that. and i like anti-magic as a concept, as well as the ponies and creatures of Equestria being inherently magical. the mechanisms for the time window spell also seem very thought-through, to limit its world-breaking possibilities. and proto-Equestrian i am guessing is present-day English?

the single sentence repeated in dead languages definitely makes me think of nuclear semiotics, though clearly it would not be that, given the message. the name "Annalies" also gives another possible meaning to "Lies in the Library"

yeah, if i came across a bunch of murdered corpses in a secret vault, i certainly would not want to explore any further! and the block/prevent distinction on magic is interesting, fitting well with my headcanon of more innate/biological magical processes continuing on even if things like flight and unicorn magic are no longer possible.

since Spike seemed to have no idea what "Bald Apes" were, i did wonder if this story took place in a canon that disregarded Equestria Girls, so it was interesting to see him suddenly recognizing a computer. the twist of Celestia and Luna being tasked to uplift ponies into a technological civilization that maintains peace on the earth is certainly one filled with potential, though i get the sense that as a last-minute entry you did not quite have the time to write the ending fully, as the reveal does feel very quick compared to the slower buildup of the first three chapters. still, a lot of very interesting ideas here. thanks for writing!

No, Proto-Equestrian isn't English, but entirely constructed as (my idea of, at least) a mix of the languages each of the different pony tribes had separately developed so that they had a single common language they could all use when interacting with another tribe. Like a pony-version of Esperanto, before it evolved into what ponies use today. That being said, English has actually appeared in another way in the story, though not called as such.

And, uh, the name part definitely wasn't intended. I did use a name-generator and used the first result, making this purely coincidental (and unnoticed until you pointed it out). It's a dutch name, with the 'lies' part pronounced as 'lease', so... yeah, let's just call it a happy accident.
