If you are reading this story as an entry in The Fourth Annual Equestria at War Writing Contest:
- I came to the contest for this year's theme: "A normal being's point of view and life amidst global events." I wanted to write about creatures who are "a normal being (i.e. not a country leader or general) at any point in the world".
- The contest rules say: "The story should fit into the Equestria at War universe. (Don’t worry too much, we’re very lenient with this.)" Because this story is about ordinary ponies trying to resist Nightmare Moon in a time before Equestria was equipped with lots of firearms and mechanized war vehicles, I am looking forward to the "very lenient" part of the rules.
- The contest rules say "All submissions must be submitted to moderation before the deadline, and be in the 2021 Contest folder up to seven days after deadline at the latest." I am definitely submitting this story to the contest folder less than seven days before the deadline.

She does realize that she ( Nightmare Moon) is destroying the world by NOT having the Sun to grow the Crops, Trees, etc.. Right??!!
And Modern Weapons?! HOW does the Ponies have them?

In the game and AU of "Equestria at War" the ponies get modern weapons in time for the players to play WW2 approximation all over the place.
Since my story is set before modern weapons, Nightmare Moon has the magical beams she fought her sister with in MLP, and maybe some other things. Her opponents are stuck with the rather unmodern things you see and hear about in my story.
I do agree with you that Nightmare Moon is doing the kind of damage that you describe. Nightmare is not exercising good, well-balanced judgement. As in canon, she is a madmare.

I know about "Equestria at War" WW2 Era Video Game Mod of Hearts of Iron 4. It's just when you "Modern Weapons". I thought you meant Today's ( 21 Century) Weapons?
Literally they are all a bunch of traitors who need to be put to death for their crimes against their legitimate ruler, Nightmare should just bring and hold the sun super close and have them all burn. That way they get the sun they want and get to die for being traitors everyone wins.
