Donut Joe's. The Bakery has been the scene of so many times Twilight and her friends had together centuries ago. The establishment is closed now, the building in ruins. As Princess Twilight, the Ruler of Equestria, takes a trip inside and down memory lane, she remembers the times she had with them before they left.

Ah, a trip down memory's lane, sometimes it's abandoned, sometimes it's reorganized, and sometimes, it is as one remembered ...

Though with an urban environment, decades work better than centuries ...

I agree, though I like to imagine in Equestria everything is crafted with magic and is quite durable.

In my opinion, it's a pity that there is no Donut Joe appeared in s9, after all, he witnessed the friendship of M6. Maybe Hasbro just forgot this pony...

Damn, that's dark.

I was going for a more sad, heartwarming vibe. Would you explaining to me why you found it dark?

:facehoof: Where's Spike?
:moustache: I'm back at the castle foal sitting, You know better that we did more then sit around eating donuts
:trollestia: Twilight? Raritys grand foals are eating your old castle in Ponyville
:twilightangry2: why is it I don't have any foals?
:derpytongue2: books

Excellent job on this one-shot. Beautifully bittersweet stuff with Twi's reflections of Joe and her friends. Of course, if it's centuries in the future, then I'm guessing the only reason Spike isn't there (given how long a life span dragons have) is because 1. his duties as royal advisor and friendship ambassador (and possibly foalsitter too) are keeping him too busy, 2. he has gotten too big to fit in the building's ruins WITH Twilight or 3. A combination of both.

And, yeah, I could see the building being passed down to Joe's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. until he eventually ran out of descendants to have the business passed on down to. Which is a pity, but it makes sense.

Anyway, the characterizations in Twilight's memories were quite well done.

I am glad you enjoyed the story. As for Spike...That's up to reader interpretation. Bear in mind this is a sad/ heartwarming ghost story. And Twilight is alone.

Well, being forgotten is obviously awful. It's like a cartoon character but he or she isn't remembered by anyone or in the public. Like Mr.Joe appeared in the gala episode and yes, he was mostly forgotten after that.

Oh I see, the actual fate of Donut Joe not the story itself. I was a bit concerned. The moral I was attempting to convey was how if you don't forget those that came before, they'll never really be gone. Thank you for sharing. <3

No problem dude

A gut shot right in the feels.

Thank you for this.

Possibly, though thinking about it, maybe one of the Cake twins could take it over when Joe retires (following Rarity's expansion example) then Twi would have had one of Pound or Pumpkin coming out of the back and ...

Centuries have gone by. The cake twins have had their time in the sun. I was very specific about the time because none of the original cast is still around. Though if it makes you feel better to believe they could be, by all means, do so. Sadly in this story, the time has passed and they stayed behind.

Oh my God I'm crying :applecry:

Damn it... something was just in my eyes I swear.
