Better watch out Number, Tattered Wing's going to be coming for you. Realized while reading this Number Crunch made no appearance in Pony in the Mirror or in the epilogue after she kills Swift Strike.
Yes, Tattered, that's definitely a PR stunt giving you that job.
I guess we'll be finally meeting the other Broken Ones. Wonder if after rehumanizing how they'll respond to the group they helped found.
I guess Wild is an emotional drunk. Also you left a word out of that tongue twister, or Wild forgot it.
All these characters fell asleep around the same time. I have a feeling I know who's coming next chapter.
the government is defiantly up to way more than any one can even guess and it will not be good.
the pony's best be gearing up for war.

That's what I was thinking too when I read this chapter.
I spotted no mistakes here.
I would be strongly inclined to agree. Too much red tape, politics and legal loopholes fuck up everything. I’d be quadrupally pissed.
As one who likes a good drink, I can say what it’s like, though experience varies from one individual to the next, with or without regard to demographics.
I love NC’s pragmatism and tendency to favor logic. If everyone were like that, there’s be less misery. SS was logical in executing her scheme, but not logical as a whole. Insisting her home was in danger, having paranoid belief that it was, and turning an entire planet’s populace into weapons as a result is clear insanity. And overestimating her abilities in believing she can counter an army of machines that were specifically designed to counter any and all kinds of magical applications is madness. NC’s nothing like that. She may have killed, but she felt guilty. And she was coerced to do it; she would not have on her own. Besides, her main goal in life is profit, and she’s good at it. Profit doesn’t usually hurt anyone, only the fanatical. And this chap makes her seem balanced.
I wonder if that human guise thing I mentioned will ever have any place here. There’s a guy here who could certainly use it, and would given the chance. After all of his efforts, he deserves a reward, and what better one than that?
Anyone notice the tension between the Crystal Ponies and the others? As was said in the original story, SS didn't know about the Crystal Ponies, yet her spell still transformed humans into them. I'm betting that that's why they feel so... foreign to the other pony sub-species, and maybe why the Vision doesn't seem to work on them. They're not part of SS's indoctrination.

I wanted to address the guise spell.
The guise spell is definitely something that Sunset Blessing would be working on learning. There are several problems with the guise spell though.
1. It doesn't change the feelings of sense of self. While in short uses it might be fine for either ponies or humans, but extended regulat uses would inevitably lead to feelings of distress. On one level Tom (Remedy's dad) thinks of himself as human, but on a deep passive level he thinks of himself as pony too. The guise spell if kept on too often over time would make that deep passive level get increasingly distressed and eventually rebel into his active mind. In the end he would find himself feeling more disconnected as a human and it would just reinforce his sense of being a pony.
Alteratively this would have a similar effect in the reverse. If Sunset tried using this on humans to make them functionally ponies they would become distressed over time if kept too often in the guise. ETS and rehumanization impact that deep passive level as well.
2. That said less extended periods of use the guise spell should cause far less distress and even be enjoyable for those it is used on. The problem is this is a complex spell that few would have the natural talent and training to perform. Since it does dispell on its own after a while that might make using such a spell when they feel like it very unlikely unless they were a unicorn with a deep understanding of magic capable of casting the spell themself. Tom would have to bury himself into magical study for some time to be able to cast this spell himself.
3. Which brings up the last point. Magical regulation. At the present time the government would be very upset with the use of such a spell freely as they would see it as a stepping stone to the development of a new ETS. In time they may lessen such restrictions, but that isn't happening yet.
Good observation that he wasn't described in that story. I'm leaving the doors open for possibilities with him. In my mind he has access to the guise spell at the point of Pony in the Mirror, but the spell's use is regulated strictly to Sunset Blessing's research facility which operates under direct government supervision and magic developed there has to go through an approval process to be used outside the facility. I'm not setting that in stone as of yet, so I left the door open for it to go in another direction if something changes in the Pandemic universe before I get back to that point.
I am suprised that you do not have the night ponies be more upset that the whole reason that they were created was to control everyone else.
True, but horses (and ponies) also have livers that produce a lot of alcohol dehydrogenase, so they break down alcohol into carbohydrates very rapidly.
'course, MLP ponies aren't normal ponies so *shrug*

They are also guardians at night and ponies from Equestria have very different views about nightmares as a culture.

Confirmed ponies are more susceptible to alcohol than humans, different biology than earth horses. Despite similarities should not be judged by what a horse can or can't do.
