We have another problem. Tanya is misunderstanding cutiemarks.
She thinks becuase she got her mark in helping people move past their problems that she is an authority on psychology but that is wrong.
Her mark just means that she has POTENTIAL to be good at it. She is trying to help people but really is just covering up the issues until a later date.
This is because she thinks that her cutie marks makes it so she does not have to try hard to learn how to help people.

Yeah, and we see even Tom understands this concept since he had doubts about his real estate agent being great just because she had a cutie mark showing she was good at finding value.
Tonya clearly does want to be helpful. It is admirable how much she wants to help. But she needs to take the time not to rely on her powers for everything. I think it comes back to a lack of self confidence. She doesn't believe she is capable without magic. That might be part of why she's a Shimmerist too. Being a pony gave her a magic ability that overrides her needing to put in the work to actually become good at helping others and she since she doesn't believe in herself she sees becoming a pony as an answer to problems. It's only becoming clear to her in the last few days that magic isn't just going to solve things.
This gets back to ponies don't think like humans. I think it also gets to night ponies don't think like other ponies. We saw it with Robby in the other chapter too; we've seen foals are quicker to embrace everything about being a pony too. Megan says fear is a virtue to night ponies and Robby said that Phobia being scary was a good thing. It makes me wonder if the Dreamwarden's intimidation tactics really is what night ponies will respect most. They are horrible to us, but to night ponies they might be seen as what earns them respect. Night ponies don't think like humans so what we view as better ways of dealing with them might not actually be all that great with night ponies.
humans,? why are they always trying to change things ?
Megan opinions are like ass holes every one has on and they only spew shit.!!

This sums it all up for her definitely.
My take on Tanya is that she is overcompensating for her issues as a human. As a human she was a pre-op transsexual who had been disowned by her family. She then gets an unknown disease that turns her into a pony of her preferred gender and gained the ability to influence others. She previously had trouble getting people to accept her they way she wanted to see her and now she can influence that. She has had it easy up until recently as she felt she was using her powers for good, until she hurt her family that was starting to come back into her life. She is now starting to see how her powers can be abused and hurt others and she is scared out of her mind thanks to Sunset Shimmer’s vision.
She needs help not only from a certified psychologist from both worlds but she needs to sit down and decide where she wants to go in life. I think she has several underlying issues that where carried over from her human life and are unfortunately effecting her life as a pony.

I think you're both focusing too much on trying to psychoanalyse Tonya, while ignoring the vastly more serious real and current problems she is being forced to deal with. The US government is adopting a policy of ruthless discrimination against the ponies of the South. We learned in the last chapter that they are planning in the near future to dump another 95,000 people into a town that currently has a population of around 15,000 and a month ago had a population of 120. Unless the current town leadership, including Tonya, achieves virtually supernatural levels of governmental efficiency, Riverview is likely going to become a gigantic slum/ghetto for large numbers of ponies and the few humans who accompanied them to this region. At this point, the ponies desperately need every possible advantage they can get, which includes Tonya's mind control abilities. But Tonya hardly dares to use her desperately needed abilities, because Phobia, her best friend, threatened her with a horrible fate if she abuses them. What Tonya needs far more than a psychologist at this point is an exact description of exactly what the Dream Wardens will allow her to do. It would also help if she could somehow learn if she will be executed if the Wardens learn she used her powers to get Number Crunch to kill Swift Strike.
