This is the first time I have ever heard of bugs in the wings being a pegasus problem. It makes sense, but I'd really preferred not to have it in my head that dirty pegasi have bugs crawling around in their feathers.
That was the kind of vibe I got when reading the main story, however, it probably wouldn’t have work liked that for long in practice. Even if the whole world got changed there would have been those who would have tried to live as they would have before as it has been shown, both in this story and the main one. Again all this shows is just how shortshigted and norrowmided Sunset Shimmer really was, despite having lived on earth for 20 years she still didn’t know much about humans or human society. The downfall for both her and her vision of a pony world was inevitable.

Most of that is because of Equestria's interference though. There still being humans, the second vision and Equestria itself where major contributors in riddling the original vision full of holes.

You also have to take into account that Sunset’s whole idea was unnecessary from the start. Though she thought she was ultimately helping humans her origanal plan was to create a massive pool of pony magic as she thought that was where Celstia’s power was drawn from. Even when told otherwise by Celestia herself she refused to accept her transformation plan wasn’t needed. Sunset was deluded from the start.
The only real question is, where did she get the notion of pony superiority from. I went back and skimmed the chapter and it’s stated that the idea fell out of practice not long after Equestria was founded. Even Prince Blueblood stated in his conversation with Strong Hooves that the transformation spell was frowned on by Equestrian’s in general. Sunset Shimmer has given Equestria a relatively bad rep and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Princess Celestia having to smooth things over with the other nations of Equus over the transformation spell. Ultimately Sunset has created an unnesseccary mess out of everything for something that was never needed in the first place. If she wasn’t executed she would have probably ended up in tatarus for her actions.

Anyone who believes in racial superiority is by default delusional. All a delusional person has to do is ignore the bad things and focus on the good things. Now, it is hard to argue against the claim that Equestria as a nation is one of the greatest nations in a great many ways. Welfare, hunger, crime, climate, Equestria does extremely well in all of them. All that is left is either ignore the remaining criminals or holes in the welfare, hunger and such or otherwise label them as exceptions, and you have a paradise nation.
Then comes the next step: Instead of claiming that this is because Equestrian culture, a thousands years of stable politics and lots and lots of effort helped build this, you summarize the lot by saying "it's because we're ponies." Now suddenly all the things your nation is good at is because of your race, and presto: One pony superiority complex.

The likes of fanatical Shimmerists like Strong Hooves must have had a pretty, I suppose you can say unguided life. Suddenly he’s a pony, he and others around him can do things they never could before and suddenly ‘ponies are better than humans’. It wouldn’t of worked. There’s what has been termed ‘forsaken’ - transformed who the vision had little effect on how they thought and acted about things-, and although it has only been mentioned in passing, there are those who were already suffering from mental illness - psychos and such- who have probably been made more dangerous through the transformation process. Even if the whole world had been turned it still wouldn’t have worked and Sunset, who has been given the impression of a perfectionist in all she does, would have likely spent a great deal of time trying to correct the in-correctable. Sunset poured twenty plus years of her life essentially down the drain.

And yet despite the attempts by the US government to sabotage the Western ponies attempts to create a post capitalist society (though the limited homestead act, which makes both mining and most magic illegal for Western ponies) the Western ponies have succeeded, 6 months after their transformation, in creating a functioning society in which everything is not owned by a tiny minority and in which the ponies are prosperous enough to give charity to the local humans. I suspect a major reason why the US government is increasingly desperate to destroy the Western ponies society is what is sometimes called "the threat of a good example". They are afraid ponies and even humans in other parts of the country will start to envy and wish to emulate the Western ponies culture.
So what will southern ponies like Amanda be thinking about Western pony society six months after this scene during the events of ASGeek's story? They will understand that the Western ponies actually tried to create the utopian society promised by the vision. On the other hand, they will also have been fed a lot of propaganda about how primitive those western ponies are. (A pony can't be happy without electricity, right?) They will have seen the press conference with Sunny and Goldy, and some of them will likely be very curious about these Western ponies. I hope we will see a bit more of the Southern ponies and their reaction to events in ASGeek's story.

We actually have seen a southern pony in the other author's story. Tonya Larris, the crystal pony. We haven't actually gotten into her head, but we have seen some clear differences. She sees a lot of things the westerners do as unsanitary, she uses technology, she is concerned with making sure the law is followed, she clearly sees herself as a US citizen, and she even implied the western ponies were stupid for giving up infrastructure. She even said she was from Georgia which very well mean she is has a home in either Brooks or Riverview since it seems most the Georgia ponies were sent to thise two places.
She also seems to have a great deal of pride in her abilities so she seems more than happy to be a pony. Maybe she has some of the Sunset Blessing brand of Shimmerism to her. Sunset Blessing works with the government too. Even when she is saying a partial should be captured it is only for practical reasons, nit because she displays any hostility to partials.
9270441
It seems to be a problem with ponies in general that they tend to live in the moment and don't really step back and look at the big picture much. That's why I sometimes find myself cheering for Sunset Blessing despite the fact she falls under the villain category. She actually stops and looks at the big picture, and that just seems to be something most of these ponies can't seem to manage. Even when Sunrise Storm tried to do that for a moment the other western leader basically criticized her for it.
9270483
It seems that forward thinking, such as with Sunset Blessing, even though she has her own agenda is largely abesent for most of the transformed. I understand that they are trying to find their place in a world that should, from the point of view of a lot of them be only ponies, but a lack of long term thinking is rather glaring. Those who want a protectorate essentially want to fob off the hard work to Equestria and those who want their own nation don’t seem to have thought about what all that doing so entails. The vision gave them a view of a utopia which they are trying to pursue, the only problem with that is reality is getting in the way. They need to wise up and accept that what they desire isn’t going to happen anytime soon if ever.

Tonya the Crystal pony is indeed a good example of what the US government wants US ponies to be. This is partly due to the fact that Sunset Shimmer didn't expect or fully understand Crystal ponies, and therefore probably wasn't able to give them a vision of their role in a utopian pony society which was nearly as appealing as that given to other ponies. Also, given that she was a police officer even before she became a pony, and is a crystal pony who, like many other crystal ponies, has been closely affiliated with the US government ever since she helped play a role in stopping pony transformations, it seems likely to me that Crystal Tonya would likely be far more loyal and patriotic to the US than most Southern ponies.
But even if most Southern ponies had attitudes similar to Tonya's, Tonya has not yet had an opportunity to learn what Western pony culture is really like. She probably thinks they live in "hovels", to use the term Sunset Blessing used to describe how Western ponies live when she was talking to Shadow Dancer. I'm looking forward to seeing Tonya reacts if and when she gets a better understanding of the ponies of the west.
9270441
'Forsaken' is a nebulous term to begin with, as Shimmerists apply it rather varyingly. Some use it to describe those who continue to commit cruelties, some use it to describe anyone who rejects the vision. There are those who resisted the vision, yes, but so far they've been few. Very few. Most people who doubt the vision do so because of Equestria's interference, be it Luna's vision, contact with actual Equestrians, or humans contradicting the vision by their very existence, much less actions. Sunset's pony utopia would have worked in the basic sense. Those few on whom the vision had no effect for whatever reason would have either been inducted by simple peer pressure (even Bob and Jenny were going along with it because everyone else was) or silently excommunicated.
9270687
I think the use Crystal used is yet another way of using it. She seemed to be using it to describe ponies that still engaged in what she considered human activities. Under her definition she might start calling the Equestrians forsaken. Radicals like her seem like they could actually be more dangerous to Equestria than they are to humans in the long run.
9270782
Only if they actually get to Equestria in sufficient numbers to start disturbing the peace there. And even then, what are they going to do? Stage a revolution? That'll get the entirety of Equestria against them.
9271637
More a long term threat. We know that they're trying to learn everything they can and want a new ETS outbreak. Eventually some more will have to be able to do the same math Sunset Blessing did and go "if we want a new ETS outbreak to be successful we need to get rid of the Equestrians".
9271686
Yeah, we all know it is happening. We're just all watching it happen in slow motion. It's just like over in the other story where you know everything is going to go to hell but all you can do is sit back eating popcorn as you watch the inevitable happen.
9271826
Sunset Blessing did state in her outburst to Shadow Dancer that Equestrian’s not only stopped ETS but started the rehumanisation process along with negotiating what and where they could go with the government. I can see a vaccine being developed to help prevent a future outbreak as Equestrian’s seem to largely be against the transformation spell, although we’ve heard little more than mentioning of that through Bluebloods conversation with Strong Hooves. Equestria, Celestia in particular, must be aware of the shimmerists and their long term goals. Celestia missed the ball first time round with Sunset so I doubt she’ll want to caught of guard again.
9271826
That again rolls back to "what are they going to do about it?" though. The only access to Equestria is the portal, so it's not as if they can stage a grand invasion. Even if they somehow do, they'll be at an inherent disadvantage against natural ponies who have far more experience fighting other ponies.
9271852
How much experience do the Equestrians actually have fighting? They have been beaten pretty easily each time changlings have attacked them. It's a running joke that their military is just for show. Many of the transformed likely have military backgrounds and knowledge. It is also only a matter of time before they do start knowing far more about magic between things like Sunset Blessing's research facilities and Equestrian nobles who can't contemplate that these Earth ponies could eventually become a threat are leaking magical know-how to them. The ponies on earth have one huge advantage over the Equestrians already in terms of sheer numbers since the outnumber Equestria ten to one. They don't even have to conquer Equestria, just force the Equestrians to pull out of their universe and shut that portal down. They don't need to attack Equestria, they just have to get control of the portal.
9271874
The answer to that, as always, is "as good as the plot allows." The Royal Guard wasn't allowed to beat the changelings during the wedding because the mane 6 have to save the day, so instead of the Guard we got to see the farmer, weather pony, fashionista, party pony and librarian kick the asses of half the changeling army. And even they got beaten when the plot required another group of heroes to save the day.
And while its true that the transformed only need control of the portal... that still means they need control of the portal. Which is not only guarded by the American government, but is also a critical point of interest of the rest of the world. If the transformed somehow manage to defeat the US military and take over the portal, they'll be making an enemy of the rest of the world.
And this assumes the transformed somehow unify to one purpose. But as we see, even the Shimmerists alone are a fractured lot, each with different ideas on how to achieve their common goal. And outside the Shimmerists, the majority of the transformed have no desire to continue transforming people, much less restart ETS.
And then finally there are the crystal ponies, who the Shimmerists have alienated and would have extra motivation to stand against them. A rather glaring problem for any radical Shimmerist, since transformed crystal ponies are also the greatest countermeasure against magic.
No, whatever path the Shimmerists take, force is not going to be what will grant them victory.
things are playing out really good and i love how the story stays on track and is not skipping around all over the place.
9271938
It still seems like something that the Shimmerists will have to unite behind eventually. It is only a matter of time before they realize Equestria's goals and their goals don't coincide. Sunset Blessing might have more forethought than the rest but the rest have to figure out eventually. I'm sure Sunset Blessing is already thinking about that portal and trying to figure out how to eventually shut it down. She might not have a plan yet, but I'm sure she's thinking of it.
9272224
I don't know, Blessing's plan seems to be a peaceful cultural assimilation that will slowly take place over generations with people willingly choosing to become ponies. She herself has already admitted she is never going to see the completion of her goal. To Blessing's plan as we've seen it, Equestria poses no threat.
