Discord know the meaning of war. For him, war is like his children.
But ponies deny his children with their fake harmony and friendship. They just trying to control everyone and everything through peace.
Meanwhile, in another place, another race has done the opposite. The had embrace war, love it, use it, and with it, they become stronger. But at a certain point, they lost the way.
Now the war is just a game, with controlled soldiers on a controlled battlefield. They just kill for the bloodshed with no thoughts about it. They have developed weapons of mass destructions, defiling everything that means war...
Now... As the embodiment of chaos. He can not leave that just like that, can he?

It is well disserved.
I have read many fanfics about Discord, and many have written him well.
They make him complex, they make him hilarious, they make him devilishly clever on both good and evil sides of the coin.
But few seem to match my belief of his title, Lord/God of Chaos. To me Chaos is the most neutral active force in the universe, the only thing more neutral is inactivity, it cares not who it harms, or whom it helps, nor who is born or who is dead, as long as things are changing it is happy. It is not the embodiment of malice, for it gains no joy though suffering, and it is not merciful for it has no joy in compassion. True Chaos is simply change, and change is the most necessary component of all living beings, and thus we must have Chaos. As long as the last second is vastly different from the last in some way shape or form, then it is content.
And this story fits not only my philosophy in that Discord wishes change and progress most of all, but also mixes his personality in that he chose the most fun and chaotic path that is most suiting to him without thinking about the immediate repercussions of his choice. (Despite my description of Chaos, Discord does have a favorite in Fluttershy and slowly others. His got a lot of explanting to do when, or if, she finds out his part of the upcoming war.)
And I love the thought you put into Discord's love for war, he is not just in it to see people die for the lol'z (Though that may be a small part of it) War to him is just a part of Chaos, a large part of it really. Life becomes death, love turns to hate, tactics and tech constantly change and evolve. Even after war, comes even more innovations for multitude of reasons, love being rediscovered, technology used for war is repurposed for other projects, and even change entire cultures. This is a very interesting prospect that can be a book all on it's own.
