you would think they would be more freaked out by magic brain parasites
Way to stay positive in a technically hopeless situation!
The question is: will they cultivate the parasites and convert them to symbiotes?
To ? : what is your position on the threat of metahumans that seem to be appearing in Canterlot?
Keep going! ;)

Sorry, you said 'threat of metahumans' and I immediately thought of this.
And this.

Shining: NOOOOOO! TWILEY!!
Ask Fluttershy: Are you interested in getting this parasite of your own? Since it might further your relationship with Bridget and get more IQ as a bonus.
9260358
I think at this point, they are almost symbiotes already.
9260294 It's almost like a person having a parasite in their brain, adjusting their behavior, can't help but be more accepting of it.
9260358 Technically, they're already a symbiont by dint of being the smaller of the two organisms in a close relationship.
9260579 Nerd-horse gonna nerd.
9260618 See above.
9261176
What? You think I'm going to just use a pile of bullion out of a pawnshop? No no no, the Elemental compatibility is the point. Silver resists magical energy, and is good for wards and bindings. But gold, gold absorbs magic like a sponge. Thus if you prepare the gold in the crucible with the appropriate essence, you can create a circle specifically attuned to the energies you intend to work with. Very useful for enchanting, or formal casting chambers.
you know they call the worm a parasite but wouldn't this be less of parasitism and more along the lines of mutual endosymbiosis? I mean she feeds it chemicals from her nervous system(albeit involuntarily) and in return it enhances her intelligence, magic, and sex drive... sounds like mutualism instead of parasitism... the minor bit of mind control is admittedly for the good of the host as it keeps them calm so they dont freak out about having involuntarily gained essentially another organ that they didnt know of
9261856 It still takes from her in the form of nutrients, and hijacks several bodily functions. Some lower GI tract parasites are thought to help with autoimmune diseases, does that make them any less a parasite?
9262176
then again doesnt EVERY organ require nutrients to survive? this worm requires energy and nutrients as much as any other organ but to be honest the host in this case gains more than they lose, greater magic, enhanced intelligence/memory, and a MAJORLY increased sex drive... also as far as I know sex drive and to a minor degree emotion are the only functions the worm has really hijacked... memory and brain capacity have been tampered with much to the host's benefit... I personally imagine it less like a tapeworm(sucks out nutrients and causes quite a few problems) and more like the result of hooking up a smartphone to a PC... the phone draws electricity from the pc but shares its own processing power and storage capacity
9262253
So you plug this smartphone into your PC. You don't notice at first that it has used an exploit to gain admin permissions, but it has. It then starts thrashing your hard drive and modifying the ads your browser displays, pretty soon it has sped up your browsing by removing all ads it doesn't want you seeing in favor of its own ads. Then, just sometimes, when you try to type on the keyboard, it just enters text commands in the hope you're in a command shell.
I mean, sure it sped up your internet...
9262268
are you insinuating that the worm has hostile intent? so far all it has really done is make its host horny as hell, smarter, and more receptive to magic... also given them the drive to find a boyfriend or girlfriend...(that worm seems like a fucking matchmaker) as well as actually do better in school... I dont really see much danger in that I mean sure it has the capability to fully control/corrupt its host(making it POTENTIALLY dangerous) but it hasn't been doing so... so there does seem to be more upsides to this symbiosis than downsides... especially since the extent of mind control has so far been sort of gentle nudges in certain directions kind of equivalent to the YouTube suggestions bar leading you 3 hours down a YouTube rabbit hole (everyone knows what the YouTube rabbit hole is right?)
9262402
Which is something I loathe the idea of. 3 hours can be 2000 words to me, and I know what I'd rather do.
As to your point, there are plenty of things that could go wrong in this situation that could be major complications to the host. If the host had a circulatory disease that caused the offspring to cause clots, for example. Yes, the parasite has "hostile" intent. It plans to subvert several of the host's bodily functions to nourish itself and its offspring, it is most definitely a parasite.
9262412
like which functions will it hijack? will it still leave its host capable of free thought and independent choice? is this a permanent mind controller like the neurax worm(every move is controlled by the worm) or will this be more along the lines of suggestion and occasional direct control like venom?
9262429 It's using its host's blood as fuel, for a start. This alone makes it firmly a parasite.
9262439
so is it consuming blood vampire style or is it getting vasculature integrated into itself? also which kind of mind control are we gonna be talking here? venom(suggestion and occasional "driving") or neurax(direct control at all times)
9262459 Mind-control? Have you read the story yet?
9262461
yes... every chapter... I just want to know this parasite's style... besides mind control is explicitly mentioned in the description spoilers for this story
9262468 Remember the parts where it drove Rainbow Dash's body outside to the river to unload its larvae? Rewiring its host's brain to encourage relationships and activities that result in sex? That's the extent of it.
Not to mention that one character is literally using mind-control on himself.
9262473
ah so now I know what they are dealing with
Booh! I have finally caught up with the plot, and are left on a cliffhanger to smexy thick plot time! Booh I say booh! Go back and write a zillion more words for tomorrow word slave or you won't get any dinner!
So the question there have been burning in my mind...
For Rainbow Dash's parasite... Tea and cake or sex?
9266024 Welcome to the present!
Dash may have ridden the elephant in the room, but no one seems willing to acknowledge the impending rampage. If just one crazed camp counselor with magic was bad, the whole world getting endowed with extra parts and powers could be disastrous.
But the parasite is a demanding taskmaster. Hopefully Sunset has some degree of plan for how to handle the approaching thaumic apocalypse.
Princess Twilight, what exactly were you doing that had you so dazed? You aren't usually this wiped out just from the portal.
9262473
I go more on Strange Quark's side of this. Unless there are drawbacks that you haven't mentioned,
I'd say it's giving as well as getting. The cost isn't much & the payoff is higher than the cost
It depends on the host's body for life support? So does a transplanted organ
& I wouldn't call that a parasite.
Of course
1) It hasn't reproduced yet, now has it.
2) What's its lifespan? And what happens when it dies?
For getting rid of it, the Elements could maybe get rid of it.
I mean, driving out possessors is what they DO.
However, those were just psychic possessions, they weren't physically present
& that could make a difference.
Treat it as an inoperable brain tumor? Try chemotherapy?
