Bat and dragon fought and it ended in a draw? Nice going Spicy!
Ask Rainbow: How would you introduce your dragon and bat friend to your parent?
9177658 A slightly bloody draw. If Spicy didn't have at least a little bit of hand-to-hand training, it probably would have gone much worse for him.
I really, honestly think this story is tackling too many plot points at once. Spicy is now also transforming, and into a Bat Pony no less, and since it's all just kinda sorta happening, it starts to feel less... special. More like a relationship drama out of a regular story.
Is it just me?

I think it is just you... Thing about all the plot points is that they are interconnected
9177893 The primary reason I left all genre tags off this is because, given the outline from the commissioner, it was always going to become a big story.
Call it a holistic approach to writing.

Probably just me then. Thing is, a portion of those other plot points, I don't find... well, interesting. Maybe that's why it feels like too much is going on, or perhaps more like the focus is on things that didn't draw me in like the beginning and middle parts of the story did. Less interconnected, more it took over the story.
I mean, if not for that one mention of the parasite this chapter, it might as well not be in the story currently. Everything going on right now could also just as well be explained solely by magic seeping into the human world—people and animals are transforming without being infected, after all. The affair with Thunderbolt began because of the parasitic infection, but he's pretty much a normal character now (what goes for normal in this story), and Rainbow getting into a relationship with Spicy shows it wasn't really that big of a factor to begin with, so it feels almost a little pointless. Superfluous.
I love a lot about this story, but lately, I've caught myself skipping large parts because I just can't get invested in them. The love triangle here, the parts with Luna and Celestia... So now I wonder if I'm approaching the story with the wrong expectations. If those are actually the important plot points, rather than, for example, Timber Spruce dealing with his own parasite.
/Sigh
Sorry for rambling like that. Don't really know what I'm thinking, I guess.
And a little male bonding! Good old scrap to establish that the pecking order wasn't what you thought it was...
To Marble: are things cooling down yet?
Keep going! ;)
9178446 Yup. Their fight firmly established that in Rainbow Dash's house, and pertaining to her body, she is in charge.
I had been reading along live, but dropped off about 10 chapters before here. Saw it was complete and wanted to pick it up again, but honestly, 9177893 nails it. Maybe things start to tie up and come together later, but at the moment it's a complete mess.
