Seems there was a missing divider in the scene change from Luna entering the class to suddenly exiting it.
So, Luna is looking to expand her duties? Interesting.
Meanwhile the rest of the class is floored at being beat out by Rainbow. After all, wasn't she struggling? 😉 better keep that on the down-low too, lest she be investigated...
Keep going! ;)
8462654 The first class was homeroom. All she had to do was announce the normal morning things and call roll. There was no scene break that wasn't the girls talking during it, and ignoring the roll-call.
I am really interested to see the long term effects of the creature at this point, I'm wondering whether it's a parasite or really a symbiote
8462704
So yes, this is a symbiotic relationship. It is also parasitic as the creature is gaining food to its host's detriment.
EDIT: Sorry, just realized you might be confused as the scientific use of that term was changed a little while ago. Symbiotic relationships is the interaction of any two creatures where there is a size difference.
Here we see how effective the parasite's control over Rainbow Dash's learning capabilities is. Time will tell if and how it will use it again. Say, to influence the effectiveness of Rainbow's learned submissiveness.
Rainbow Dash: Looks like you aced it! What are you going to do to celebrate that? Good students should reward themselves for a job well done!
I wonder. If Rainbow Dash ends up pregnant, will the child be infected or be normal? And if the child is infected will it be a parasite in human form or just a human with a parasite?
8462700
Ah. It's been so long, we don't recall roll call being mandated returned immediately but it seems some places need it that way.
8462709
I was going by the original definition, when the hell did they change it?
8462789 Around 2002 I think. Not so much changed as clarified. It had never had a rigid biological definition before.
To Luna: What would you call (I mean nickname) your upcoming music class? Nighmare Moon's Spectacular All-Night Session, maybe?
8462746
The chance of infection is likely very high. The embryo is connected to the mother's bloodstream, and it's been established that the parasite sends its eggs through her blood. It would be nearly impossible for the child not be infected in the womb. As for the second question, why would it be a parasite in human form? Without magical interference, it should come out as an infected child.
8462924 The eggs will not hatch and grow a larva in the bloodstream, they need actual water for their early larval stage.
8462924
What I mean is, since a embryo or fetus doesn't have a develop brain yet would the parasite marge with the embryo or with a fetus, the barely developed brain and be a parasite in human form. Also we can't be sure how humans gain magic and pass it on, it could be just random or genetic in other cases, say a certain rainbow haired girl who passed it on to her children.
8463002
A sufficient quantity of H2O, hm? I presume having the mother drink water wouldn't be enough. Even if the parasites move into the embryo's stomach, they'd probably get digested before they can hatch.
8463009
Ah. I wondered if that is what you meant. Most likely, the parasite is evolved not to truly damage the brain despite replacing parts of it. It doesn't have anything close to a higher mind, a child reduced to the parasite's rudimentary processes would be unsuitable as a host.
Magic makes everything weird, though. One thing is certain, friendship is magic, and love is magic, and who loves their child more than their parents? If Rainbow were to get pregnant, she'd probably pump her baby full of love and affection, both of which are powerful forces in regards to Equestrian magic.
8463064 The larval stage of the parasite is spent feeding voraciously on various plants, building a store of energy for the task of parasitising a host.
8463067
Scilight is going to have a field day if she ever decides to take a water sample... Well, we also know it can move outside of a body of water, at least for a while. Not enough to reach any of the houses, I'd say.
Also, maybe Pinkie clam-jamming Scilight is a good thing for different reasons than she thinks. We've gotten to know Timber as a nice fellow, if a bit full of himself at times (not even close to Rainbow Dash), but considering where he lives, he's probably infected.
8463064
True true. Too bad the author said the parasites need water and plant life to survive their larval stage. Good news, we don't have to worry about a neurax worm conquest. Now to think up a reason why Rainbow is slowly turning more pony like. Is it the parasite? Is it magic itself trying to corrupt all of mankind. Will it be permanently turn Rainbow into a half pony girl!! The world may never know.
8463115
Well, there obviously is magic seeping into the human world, and most humans are not equipped to deal with it. Ponying up seems to be the most "harmonic" expression of magic, other transformations have mostly been the result of damaged people absorbing too much magic too quickly. Not sure where the Dazzlings fall on this scale, they were the only ones who stayed in control of themselves and sane.
We have seen how the parasite regards its host: It has classified Rainbow Dash as an Equestrian pony. The increasing durations of her ponying-up is the parasite attempting to remap her physically closer to what she "should" be. Kind of like the computer in The Fly. Yeah, I think the end result is Rainbow Dash stuck in anthro form of some kind.
What would be interesting too is seeing how the parasite deals with victims who have magic but haven't ponied up. Like Gloriosa Daisy. She was both infected with Equestrian magic (and a lot of it!) and stands a high chance of being infected with the parasite too.
Also, whether the parasite recognises its original home. If it can, then Rainbow is going to be extra enthusiastic when they start collecting money to save Camp Everfree. What better way to spread for it than if more people go there..?
8463791
True, it would be interesting to see what happens to a infected Gloriosa, seeing how she turned into a plant monster. But I want to know is what will happen if the parasite infects someone without magic or someone who lost it like Sonata. Will it act the same way it does with Thunderbolt? Or will it be different and what if a infected person gain magic? Will parasite change the in someway to accommodate the change or remain the same. We do know that the parasite reacts greatly in the presence of magic to the point that the magic increases it's growth rate.
8464532
Regular non-magical humans, I would expect to work like Thunderbolt. If they later gain magic, now that's a really interesting question! At this point in time, it's difficult to tell. Also, let's not forget, the entirety of CHS has been exposed to magic on a massive scale by now; even if they can't use it, it was enough to draw the Dazzlings there to feed on it.
If the parasite does apply later changes to their bodies, I see two ways it could work.
1) It depends on what their counterpart in Equestria is. As in, Rainbow Dash is a pony, so her human counterpart develops pony aspects. Mister Cranky would develop donkey aspects. Sonata would develop Siren aspects.
She might look like this

or she might look like this
derpicdn.net/img/view/2016/8/2/1215472__safe_solo_anthro_sonata+dusk_siren_artist-colon-edoki.jpeg
2) It depends on what kind of magic you've absorbed. Harmony magic means pony, other magic means something else. Humans who gain chaos-based magic could transform into Draconequi!
Of course, the above assumes Sonata is now human to begin with, which she might not be. She looks like a human, sure, but has anyone tested her DNA..? What speaks for the first hypothesis is how human Twilight also changes into an Alicorn despite not having undergone Princess Twilight's trials, nor being the leader of her group, which would be Sunset.
So yes, if Spike were to be infected, he might change into a dragon-dog.
8465507 I love those pics. A happy tacofish is an adorable tacofish!
8465521
So do I. Anthro tacofish is noice.
Pinkie, what are your thoughts on all of this including Dash’s really quick test completion?
8465521
8464532
By the way, the parasite's lifecycle included an aquatic stage, right? Well, it's entirely possible seaponies/kelpies/Sirens are a preferred prey species.
8466679
True. Random thought, but do you think that the parasite has a life span within its host? Like say a two to three years then it dies off causing the mental changes to reverse or remain. And while I think about it, its quite possible that the sirens were the ones who bought the parasites to this world but evolved to be immune to their effects.
8466719
Tough question. My guess would be 'no'. It's established as integrating into the host body to the point where it stops being an individual organism. It's tissue with an individual agenda.
8466719
I really hope this is temporary.
8468396
Another random thought, but wouldn't the ponies of Equestria know about a parasite like this? I mean it kinda rewire a person brain and seeing how child friendly ponies can be, if a pony suddenly started to act perverted like Rainbow then I'm sure someone will notice.
Also do you think that parasite develops faster in ponies seeing how the parasite reacts to magic?
8470011
I went and reread the first chapter to be sure, but with the way the author describe how the parasite fused to Rainbow.... well unless the ponies of Equestria know how to remove the parasite and even then, there no real hope for her and anyone else because the method the ponies have would be made for ponies.
8470031
It's pretty much a tossup whether ponies know anything about a particular problem or not, definitely so about potential cures. Meadowbrooke found a cure for Swamp Fever but never made it public, who knows how many ponies ended up transformed into trees between then and Fluttershy discovering her notes? Maybe they know about them, maybe they don't. If it only befell isolated hubs, ponydom at large may never have even heard of it.
Second point, absolutely yes.
It develops faster in ponies. It may develop even faster in humans 'infected' with Equestrian magic, depending on whether humans or ponies are more easily aroused; they'd be the perfect breeding ground, magic to help them develop and lots of sex hormones to feed them.
Hmm. That would be a good question.
To Sunset Shimmer/Princess Twilight: You both have experienced life as ponies as well as humans. You both jumped into a relationship with a human boy pretty quickly too. Would you say you feel more interested in sex in your human body compared to you pony ones?
8470085
True. I’m still worried though.
What I immediately thought of when Luna makes music:
