I'm pretty sure the fact that they're ALIVE is news to report, considering the bodies they've found...
Interesting chapter wondering if anyone with their talents has tried it before. OF course no one making it back doesn't aid in preparing
Man, life hates Tarnish, doesn't it? Constantly trying to kill him or crush his spirit. Taking a guy who hates nature more often than not and make him the guy in charge of taking care of it.
This guy can tank some shit, that's for sure. He may suffer from a fragile ego, but most folk would've broken long before now. I certainly would have.
Feel better, eh?
Every time the grove gets referenced I get even more curious how it works, even with Fluttershy's story told to Hennessy.
Entering the grove doesn't mean you automatically become a Druid if you emerge? That's my impression.
Also, the way Tarnish talks about druidic magic makes it sound like Centaur magic, just from one particular source. Curious.
Tarnish has the right idea though, survival means a hearty body and spirit.
"but hey, at least there are no windigos!”
The foreshadowing is strong with this one.
And obviously there's the title picture for the story.
And here we see Rainbow Dash, brazenly taunting Murphy right in the face.
You know, it does kinda bug me about why Celestia is being so silent about Skyreach. I mean, I know the reason given, but it doesn't make sense to me. I figure, if they're going no matter what you do, you might as well tell them everything you know to maximize the chances of their survival. The only reason I can figure is that this is the least dangerous part of Skyreach, and Celestia's hoping they survive this and find a way to escape. The further in they get, the less likely they can get out alive, something like that.
'Course, it could just be a bad decision on Celestia's part. As I've said at least once in the past: This is the Weedverse, where no one character is 100% correct about anything. If I'm reading her right, then I think that one of Celestia's biggest weaknesses is being a bit close-minded. Which makes sense. She's had a lot of time to become set in her ways. I think she might be aware of this, which is why she wanted a mate who wasn't a subservient yes-pony. Someone who could and would debate with her on important points.
A lingering question is this: If they can't retreat at this point in time, then what the hell is their long-term plan? Even if they discover the secrets of Skyreach, how will they get out? Obviously, the answer to this will come in time, but it's probably the most worrisome part of their present situation. Funny how the biggest problem here is also the most mundane.

Celestia likes knowing stuff. When dealing with the unknown, she has been shown to be quite pessimistic.
7985664
Somehow I hadn't picked up on that. Though I do remember her getting snippy back in Venemus Iocus in the astral plane with Tarnish.
Ooooh, that makes me think of a question:
Tarnish, have you ever gloated, or considered gloating, to Twilight about being able to visit the astral plane?
7985674
Tarnish: Twilight is my close friend and fellow troublemaker. Why would I want to do that?
7985674
Without giving away a major plot point that is very, very soon to be revealed...
Celestia likes to overpower her problems by being knowledgeable about them. She learns everything she can before making a move. When she does move, she's confident that she can overcome it, or that her gently manipulated champion can overcome it. She exploits weakness and sends the perfect counter.
And that's all I'll say on the issue.
7985684
...You know, Tarnish, you make me feel bad about myself sometimes.
7985687
Fair enough. I wasn't really fishing for answers, simply mulling things over.
7985691
Speaking as the author, all one had to do was think back to Flam's trial. Twilight specifically mentions that Tarnish is one of her must trusted advisors. Do you think a jerk that endlessly taunts her would be in this position?
7985703
Sometimes trusted friends are momentarily jerks to each other for fun. Rainbow Dash springs to mind. But I never meant to imply that Tarnish would knowingly and repeatedly cross the line.
Pardon my tummy!

And now I wonder, are our heroes carefully manipilated champions? If Celestia really wanted she could probably stop Daring before she would find the snow flake compass.
Wasting no time, Vinyl headed for the vaginal entrance, in a hurry to get inside.
Sorry, had to go there
Goshdarnit, Rainbow, what did we say about tempting fate and jinxing?
7986065
So did Vinyl. And she got there first.
7986475 Diabolical.
Also, even though the pegasi are flightless, i.e. cannot manipulate the aether, Rainbow still can sense the wind and its 'quality'. That's still better than nothing.
So either sensing and manipulating are on a slightly different frequency, or they just cannot focus their magic outwardly at the moment, but still use it inwardly for sensing.
Raindow Dash, you just tempted fate.
7985172
That, and that Skyreach has an anti-flight barrier that disables airships and pegasai, AND is probably Centaur built judging from all the killer robots.
That's more than anyone (besides maybe Celestia) knew beforehand.
