I've always been partial to weeping willows, but the tamarack may be my new favorite tree.

And how does one get out?
Fly?
How far do you think Daring Do and Rainbow Dash could get carrying supplies and two unicorns?
Not far enough, trust me.
I don't really get it; the centaurs had advanced technology and magitek including robotics, trans-dimensional gateways, and coilguns/gauss rifles, but they were all exterminated by a single necromancer?
Methinks something is a bit off with your narrative, or there are things you simply haven't revealed yet. Considering everything you've written, and the work you're putting into this story (ie weight of various items they're carrying), I'd like to think it's the latter, but there gets to be a point where you're building up a villain unrealistically just to make them a bigger threat.
Called it.

Nobody's figured it out yet.
The centaurs had a direct connection to magic that the other races did not have. They even invented artificial ley lines.
And Grogar did what, exactly?
It confounds me that nobody has figured this out yet.
7978911 if they had a direct connection to magic anything effecting it or corrupting magic would impact them very quickly.
7978957
Think about Tirek eating magic. Now, imagine the worst food poisoning EVER.
7978959 if they were too dependant on magic more than ponies Tirek would've been a death sentence
7978959 So you're saying that magic-eating is something that ALL Centaurs could do? And that his magical corruption is what killed them off? What about all the technology they use, surely they had things far worse than our nuclear armaments to wipe out major threats, and 100 miles around said threats, without the need for magic.
7979016
Not necessarily magic eating, but just their connection to magic. Tirek was an extreme example.
Imagine, if instead of oxygen, a creature needed magic to live.
I've already spelled this out in other works and I feel that explaining it here is just a waste of time. I've left all the hints I'm going to leave. As previously stated, if people haven't paid attention, I am not going to coax them along. It's just too frustrating and stressful. I'm trusting that the reader is smart enough and observant enough to figure all of this out for themselves.
And if they can't figure this out, then I am trusting the community in the comments section to come together, read each other's posts, and put their heads together.
It really seems that in this one case that should be spelled Tamawreck

SNERK!
7979047 I'm sorry if my questions are irritating you. I know you have fragments of ideas, bits and pieces of this whole thing that are placed in various points of your stories, but seeing such advanced technology at work makes it seem like the centaurs shouldn't have fallen to anything short of the heat-death of ALL the universes, considering they could just hop over to the next one and continue on without a care in the world.
I know from the Horrible Hypothesis that Grogar--who is apparently still some kind of non-physical ghost--is tainting magic--which in your universe is a limited resource--and that's weakening the already-weakening ponies as he works to cause the death of all things, because reasons--as much as wanting to rule a dead planet is a reason--and that the centaurs had some "special connection" to magic that is never specified in really any way because barely anyone knows that centaurs even existed, let alone what they could do.
This thing about lifeforms actually needing magic to live was hinted at at some point, I suppose, maybe during the Mount Maud eruption thing? I guess I never thought that Grogar had used this tainting magic tactic previously. Seems like if it killed off the mighty centaurs, then there's little reason that any of the ponies are even still alive at this point, aside from the fact that Grogar's basically an angry ghost who is probably weakened by that status.
It's a shame the centaurs never invented a proton pack, or these necromancer problems would be gone in a flash.

Centaurs had a stronger connection to magic than ponies do. Ponies actually act as filters.
Centaurs weren't so much filters as they were direct conduits. The corruption hit the them the hardest, and as it has been implied several times now, most of the centaurs died off, while a few centaurs... became something else.
Think of a lightning rod. Lightning hits it and is safely dispersed into the ground.
Now, imagine the same lightning strike but with no lightning rod.
That's a centaur. When the magic became corrupted, they did too. They had no natural defense against the magical disease that ravaged them. As they were dying out, they did everything they could to prevent the coming end of all life that they foresaw. Grogar was believed dead, his crown was contained, but there were still other major players on the field, and the future of the world was uncertain. All the centaurs understood was, life, and the existence of life, was uncertain. So they hedged their bets against any and all possible apocalypses. With their vast intelligence, they tried to think about all of the different ways that life might end, and they tried to counter it. They worked to leave behind a world suitable for those they loved and adored, not just ponies, but everything.
Everything is still coming undone though.

The druids are only loyal to themselves.
Or are supposed to be.
7978911
He corrupted their magic didn't he?
7978855
If this place really was original created by the centaurs as something for ancient pure blooded Pegasi, the Centaurs themselves would have needed some way to come and go from here while setting it up. It is possible there could still be a fully functional ancient centaur airship somewhere in Skyreach or wherever these Automotons are coming from.
Ahhh, that's greater than 88mph.

7978911
Centaurs channeled raw magic in whatever shape they wanted. Grogar went a step further and altered what magic is.
That's my current hypothesis anyway.
7979560
And you are correct.
7979219 Ah, that's right, thank you for the context.
7979564 Aaaaaw yisss~!
7979570
And the centaurs, so dependent on magic, could not survive what Grogar had done. Well, most of them, anyhow. Some, like Tirek, became magical vampires.
7979576 Indeed. It's the kind of ploy that no one would expect because on the surface it's a death sentence for all. That wasn't meant to be a pun but I'm keeping it.
7979598 The thing of Grogar being able to survive things that should be a death sentence is something of a theme, Celestia and Luna were deliberately built by the Centaurs so that killing them would involve mutually assured destruction (they can't be killed so long as the Sun and Moon survive), but Grogar, being a necromancer, doesn't need the Sun to rule the world.

I'm keeping an eye on you. Yes I am.

Is there a name for Vinyl's voice condition thing? I searched for a bit but couldn't find a name.
Is it weird that I'm 100% hoping that the Tamarack is now something like a Whomping Willow that preys (only) on mechanoids? Decorating itself with their metal; enticing more in with the promise of metal salvage, parts, and repairs; looking like a Christmas tree?
No interest in ponies or other fleshy things of course, they don't sparkle like metal does.
