equestria is not the name of the planet its just one kingdom
AFAIK, Equestria is the name of both the planet & the nation. Sort of like we in the USA call our country "America", even though it is the name of 2 continents & a number of other countries are also located on these continents. Yes, I suppose it does get confusing sometimes but context usually makes it clear which one is meant.
I'm posting again so quickly because, thinking about this for awhile it occurs to me
The series had the protection of psionics as a major subplot & their increase as a major goal. If unicorns are common, then this won't work in the series. I'd recommend changing it so Unicorns are very rare on the other planets as well as Alicorns being legendary.

Yeah, that was one of the things I thought about before writing this. The difference between Equus and the rest of the galaxy (in this universe) is that while the unicorn population is about the same as it is in the show, a small percentage of unicorns will be able to gather and use a higher amount of magic than the average. And alicorns produce a ridiculous amount of magical power.
Confusing? I'll explain later.

So, Twilight will be of interest & probably magic items like the Elements of Harmony, the Crystal Heart + the Alicorn Amulet. Also, before Celestia & Luna took the jobs, a group of Unicorns moved the sun & moon
